第四节五选四阅读
There are so many expressions in American English that sound pleasant but are not. 56 .When someone says they have to "face the music", it does not mean they are going to a concert. "Facing the music" means to accept and deal with the punishment(惩罚) of an action.
57 .For example, "I can't face another night of camping! It's cold and rainy." Or "In life, you must face your fears." Face used in this way is very common. But now, let's go back to “facing the music”. Imagine a friend asks you to take care of her beautiful red sports car. She gives you the keys and says, "Thanks so much for watching my car while I'm away. But please, do not drive it. It is an extremely (极其) fast car." But you do not listen. You want to show off to some friends. So, you drive it around town one night. As bad luck would have it, you lose control of the car and drive it into a stop sign. Bang!
When your friend returns, you must tell her what you have done and "face the music". 58 .It could be losing her friendship or paying for repairs to her sports car or both. Whatever the music is, you must face it.
59 .To "take your medicine" means to accept the results from something bad you have done. And if someone says, "You made your bed. Now lie in it." they mean you created a bad situation and now you will experience the results!
第五节阅读Array表达
Where
does your
food come
from? How is it made? These days, many people worry about food safety. But food safety is not a new worry. In 1906, Upton Sinclair wrote the Jungle. The book is the story of a poor family in Chicago. It is also about the dangerous ways that food was prepared. People were so worried that the U.S.started testing food.
These day, most food in the world is safe. Laws control where food comes from.
They also control how food is managed and prepared. Laws are important But it’s more important to make
sure the rules are followed. A good food safety system(系统)keeps people safe. It also helps them eat healthy food. Labels(标签)on food give people important information. Then they can make good choices about their food.
Although food safety systems usually work, there can be problems. Sometimes mistakes are made. For example, a truck might carry eggs and then ice cream. The ice cream could make people sick when the truck isn’t cleaned before carrying it. Other problems are not mistakes. Sometimes companies break rules to make more money. When this happens, people don’t know if their food is safe.
As we all know, food is closely related to our daily life. We should take actions to make food safer!
60.What did the US do when people were so worried about food safety?
61.What do the food laws control?
62.Can people get any important information from the labels about their food?
63.When could ice cream make people sick according to the example?
64.Why do many companies break the rules?
