【题文】A
This year some twenty-three hundred teenagers(young people aged from 13 —19)from all over the world will spend about ten months in U. S. homes. They will attend U.S. schools, meet U.S. teenagers, and form impressions of the real America. At the same time, about thirteen hundred American teenagers will go to other countries to learn new languages and gain a new understanding of the rest of the world.
Here is a two-way student exchange in action. Fred, nineteen, spent last year in Germany with George’s family. In turn, George’s son Mike spent a year in Fred’s home in America.
Fred, a lively young man, knew little German when he arrived, but after two months’ study, the language began to come to him. The school was completely different from what he had expected — much harder. Students rose respectfully(尊敬地) when the teacher entered the room. They took fourteen subjects instead of the six that are usual in the United States. There were almost no outside activities.
Family life, too, was different. The father’s word was law, and all activities were around the family rather than the individual. Fred found the food too simple at first. Also, he missed having a car.
“Back home, you pick up some friends in a car and go out and have a good time. In Germany, you walk, but you soon learn to like it.”
At the same time, in America, Mike, a friendly German boy, was also forming his idea. “I
suppose I should criticize(批评) American schoo ls,” he says. “It is far too easy by our level. But I have to say that I like it very much. In Germany we do nothing but study. Here we take part in many outside activities. I think that maybe your schools are better in training for citizens. There ought to be some middle ground between the two.”
21. This year teenagers will take part in the exchange programme between America and
other countries.
A. twenty-three hundred
B. thirteen hundred
C. over three thousand

C. students usually take fourteen subjects in all
D. students go outside to enjoy themselves in a car
24. After experiencing the American school life, Mike thought .
A. a better education should include something good from both American and Germany
B. German schools trained students to be better citizens
C. American schools were not as good as German schools
D. the easy life in the American school was more helpful to students
【题文】B
A sure way to destroy your chances of learning how to write skillfully is to believe that writing is a “natural gift” rather than a learned skill. People with such an attitude think that they are the only ones for whom writing is unbearably difficult. They feel that everyone else finds writing easy or at least tolerable (可容忍的). Such people often say. “I’m not any good at writing” or “English was not one of my good subjects.” They imply that they simply do not have a talent for writing, while others do. The result of this attitude is that these people try to avoid writing, and when they do write, they don’t try their best. Their writing fails chiefly because they believe that they don’t have the “natural talent” needed to write. Unless their attitude changes, they probably
will not learn how to write effectively.
A realistic attitude about writing must build on the idea that writing is a skill. It is a skill like driving, typing, or cooking; and, like any skill, it can be learned. If you have the determination to learn, you will develop your writing skills by practicing extensively.
Many people find it difficult to do the active thinking that clear writing demands. It is frustrating (使人沮丧的) to discover how much of a challenge it is to transfer thoughts and feelings from one’s head onto a sheet of paper. But writing is not an automatic process: We will not get something for nothing —and we should not expect to. For almost everyone, skillful writing comes from hard work — from determination and sweat. The good news is that the skill of writing can be mastered, and if you are ready to work, you will learn what you need to know.
25. Why do some people think writing is difficult?
A. They have no time to practice writing.
B. They believe few people can write well.
C. They have no good teachers to help them.
D. They don’t think writing can be learned.
26. It can be inferred from Para. 1 that ______.
A. “natural gift” is the determining factor in one’s success
B. diligence can result in success
C. a person without “natural gift’ is sure to fail in writing
D. attitude determines what one will be
27. What is the topic of the passage?
A. Why writing is important.
B. Whether writing is a born gift.
C. Benefits of essay writing.
D. How to improve writing skills.
【题文】C
Greek soldiers sent messages by turning their shields (盾) toward the sun. The flashes reflected by light could be seen several miles away. The enemy did not know what the flashes meant, but other Greek soldiers could understand the messages.
Roman soldiers in some places built long rows of signal towers. When they had a message to send, the soldiers shouted it from tower to tower. If there were enough towers and enough soldiers with loud voices, important news could be sent quickly over distance.
In Africa, people learned to send messages by beating on a series of large drums (鼓). Each drum was kept within hearing distance of the next one. The drum beats were sent out in a special way that all the drummers understood. Though the messages were simple, they could be sent at great speed for hundreds of miles.
In the eighteenth century, a French engineer found a new way to send short messages. In this way, a person held a flag in each hand and the arms were moved to various positions representing different letters of the alphabet. It was like spelling out words with flags and arms.
Over a long period of time, people sent messages by all these different ways. However, not until the telephone was invented in America in the nineteenth century could people send speech sounds over a great distance in just a few seconds.

C. the spelling system
D. arm movements

A. Neither the Greek soldiers nor their enemy could understand the message.
B. African soldiers shouted from tower to tower to pass message.

30. The Africans sent messages ______.
A. by putting drums together
B. over a very short distance
C. by a musical instrument
D. at a rather slow speed
31. The ______ way of communication made use of visible signs.

【题文】D
Stop wasting your time thinking of reasons for your failures and shortcomings. Instead, realize that the seeds of success were planted within you when you were born. Only you have the power to make those seeds grow.
The seeds, and the power to grow them, are contained in the most awesome machine ever created: the human mind. Success is a choice and not a chance. You were born a winner. You were born rich. You can be a success if only you make the right choice.
You cannot be successful without first developing your self-esteem (自信心). Your level of self-esteem is always based on the degree of control that you are able to exercise over yourself, and thus over your life. People with low self-esteem are people who do not believe that they have any power, or responsibility for their lives. They are always victims. They are leaves tossed (摇摆) by the winds of chance blown about with any sudden change in the weather.
You can exercise control over your life only to the degree that you believe you are responsible for everything that happens in your life. Failures think that everything happens by accident and chance. Successful people realize that they are responsible.
Everything happens as a result of something. If we can identify the cause, we can control the effect. We are responsible for what we choose to think and believe. One generally rises to the level that one expects. We are responsible for setting our expectations. Our success is dependent upon our level of confidence.
If you associate with positive-thinking people, you are definitely going to achieve success. On the contrary, the opposite happens. We are responsible for finding, planting, and nurturing (培育) the seeds that contain future victory, born from setbacks (挫折).
In short, in all areas of your life, whether they are financial, physical, emotional, or spiritual, you are responsible. Once you recognize this, accept it, and firmly believe it. You are on the road to success.
32. People with low self-esteem are compared to leaves because they ______.
A. can’t exercise control over themselves
B. are easily affected by windy weather
C. don’t have the power to face their fate
D. are ready to change their minds
33. Losers would think that ______.
A. success is the result of hard work
B. working hard will lead to success
C. they fail only because of bad luck
D. they don’t make efforts to succeed
34. It can be inferred from the fifth paragraph that ______.
A. setting our expectations is essential before taking action
B. knowing cause and effect is the key to future success
C. thoughts and beliefs are the result of creative mind
D. whether we will succeed depends on our attitudes
35. The last paragraph serves as ______.
A. the proof of the author’s points
B. the conclusion of the argument
C. an introduction to another topic
D. a comparison between two views

Doctors say anger can be an extremely damaging emotion, unless you learn how to deal with it. They warn that anger can lead to heart disease, stomach problems, headaches, emotional problems and possibly cancer.
36 Some people express anger openly in a calm and reasonable way. Others burst with anger, and scream and yell. But other people keep their anger inside. They cannot or will not express it. This is called repressing anger.
For years many doctors thought that repressing anger was more dangerous to a person’s health than expressing it. They said that when a person is angry, the brain releases the same hormones (荷尔蒙). They speed the heart rate, raise blood pressure, or sugar into the blood, etc. 37
Some doctors say that both repressing and expressing anger can be dangerous. They believe that those who express anger violently may be more likely to develop heart disease, and they believe that those who keep anger inside may face a greater danger of high blood pressure.
38 They say the first step is to admit that you are angry and to recognize the real cause of the anger, then decide if the cause is serious enough to get angry about. If it is, they say, “39 Wait until your anger has cooled down and you are able to express yourself calmly and reasonably.”
Doctors say that a good way to deal with anger is to find humor in the situation that has made you angry. 40
A. They say that laughter is much healthier than anger.
B. Expressing anger violently is more harmful than repressing it.
C. Doctors say the solution is learning how to deal with anger.
D. Anger may cause you a cancer.
E. Do not express your anger while angry.
F. Anger is a normal emotion that we all feel from time to time.
G. In general the person feels excited and ready to act.

第四行:specially改为special,形容词做定语;
第五行:many改为much,修饰不可数名词,用much不能用many;
第六行:that改为whether或if,句意是利用这次机会去检测同学们是否足够聪明;

【范文】
Recently the students of our school had a discussion about whether the listening test in NMET should be replaced by listening part of PETS2.
Some students think it good because the listening materials in PETS2 are close to our daily life. Besides, students can share equal opportunities as they can take the test twice a year. They say the new policy will help strengthen the students’listening and speaking and therefore improve their abilities in using English.
However, others argue that the new listening test is too difficult for most students. They even say it is a waste of time and energy for students to take the test twice a year because they have so many subjects to study. They strongly believe that only a few students have the opportunities to communicate with foreigners in English in future and suggest that listening test should be cancelled.
