Australia is famous for its beautiful beaches. And Australian people love swimming and going to the beach. But it wasn't always that way.
Different Climate,Different habits
When Europeans first invaded Australia, the only people here who were good at swimming were the Aboriginal people. The Europeans came from climates where it was too cold to swim. Also some people worried that they would get sick if they wet their whole body. However the warm climate of Australia soon changed their attitude to swimming. At first, only men swam. They swam naked-there were no women to see them.
Cover up!
By the 1880's and 1890's visiting the beach was very fashionable and a lot of people went there, especially in warm weather. They wore everyday street clothes—much more than people wear at the beach today.
In those days, people believed they should cover most of their body so it would not be seen by the opposite sex.Special bathing costumes were designed for women. These costumes med a lot of cloth and were very heavy when wet, making it difficult to swim.
Laws Made and Laws Changed
The government decided to stop men swimming naked. It passed a law which forbade bathing between 6am and 7pm.Many people objected to this law and wrote letters to the government asking it to change the laws.In 1903,the laws changed;people could swim in the daytime, but they had to wear neck-to-knee costumes.
The Shrinking Costume
As time passed, swimming costumes became smaller and more convenient.
At first men and women were covered from neck to knee. Then the arms became bare. Then more of the legs were uncovered. Each new change was regarded by many as shocking and rude and people wrote letters to the newspapers complaining about the new costumes.Nowadays some people go to special “nude(裸体)beaches” to swim naked.
However, most people cover their bodies more than they did ten years ago—not because they think bare skin is shocking—but to protect their skin from the harmful rays of the sun.59.The climate of Australia .

Last year,my boyfriend suggested that I should run the London marathon(马拉松),and I laughed. He laughed too,but he laughed too long and too loud. That made me think.I realized that he didn't believe that I could do it.That made me angry, and determined. Now he knows that
I can!
Training wasn't easy, but I kept going I didn't need special training but I did need to buy very good shoes. Each day,I went a little further.By the end of three months,I was running five days a week Sometimes in the evenings I rail 10 km;on Sunday mornings.I sometimes ran about 30 km.I used to come home, have a shower and eat my breakfast.I felt wonderful!
On the day of the race in London,I lined up with about 30,0000ther runners. The faster runners were at the front, while slower runners like me were placed further back.In that way,the professional runners and club runners were not slowed down by the amateurs(业余爱好者).At first, there were so many runners close together that we were almost falling over each other. We could only run very slowly but that was a good thing because it meant that we didn't rush off too quickly.Gradually the runners spread out and there was more space. There were thousands of people watching us along the route and they cheered and clapped everyone, even the slowest runner. It was wonderful!
For the first 10 km I felt very happy and my legs felt very comfortable. However,at 15 km I got a pain in my side and running became difficult, but I kept going and the pain disappeared. At the 30 km mark,I felt extremely tired, and wanted to stop, but I kept on going.I covered another 3 km and then I began to feel better again.
By the time I reached the 35 km mark,I knew I was going to get to the end of the course.Somehow that confidence made me feel lighter and faster and it seemed as if my legs flew over the last few kilometers.I passed hundreds of slower runners.some of whom had passed me earlier, and I felt wonderful! As I came round the last bend(弯道)and saw the finishing line,I could see three runners ahead of me.I raced past all of them to finish the race in just under four hours. The winner had completed the race in 2 hours and lo minutes, but I didn't care! I had run 42 km and completed my first marathon!

Without the atmosphere there would be no weather,no wind, rain, snow,or clouds.Air is all around us;we live at the bottom of a great ocean of air.It is invisible, but we can feel it when it moves. There are miles of air above us,pressing down with great weight on the earth and everything on it.Because air presses down on us from all directions at the same time, and because we are able to bear this weight.we do not seem to feel it.But scientists have proved that air has this weight, and that anything that has weight creates a force called pressure As changes in air pressure take place, they make air move.
Air is a gas that expands(膨胀)when heated, gets lighter, and moves upward. When air is cooled,it gets heavier, sinks close to the earth's surface, and flows like water in a great river. As warm air rises, cold air rushes in to take its place. Thus winds originate(产生).The winds that blow high above us are caused by the warmer air running away from colder air.The wind we feel near the earth's surface is the heavy colder air trying hard to catch the warmer air.Changes in temperature cause the air to move. And of course there are many changes,so air movements are taking place practically all the time.
67.The first paragraph mainly tells us the causes of .
A.why we don't feel air B.why atmosphere is important to us
C.why there is air surrounding us D.why there is air pressure
68.Air moves under such conditions that .

I'm usually fairly skeptical about any research that concludes that people are either happier or unhappier or more or less certain of themselves than they were 50 years ago. While any of these statements might be true, they are practically impossible to prove scientifically.Still,I was struck by a report which concluded that today's children are significantly more anxious than children in the 1950s.In fact, the analysis showed, normal children aged 9 to 17 exhibit a higher level of anxiety today than children who were treated for mental illness 50 years ago.
Why are America's kids so stressed? The report cites two main causes:increasing physical isolation(隔离)brought on by high divorce rates and less involvement in community, among other things and a growing perception that the world is a more dangerous place.
Considering that we can't turn the clock back, adults can still do plenty to help the next generation cope(应付).
At the top of the list is nurturing(培育)a better appreciation of the limits of individualism. No child is all island.Strengthening social ties helps build communities and protect individuals against stress.
To help kids build stronger connections with others, you can pull the plug on TVs and computers.Your family will thank you later. They will have more time for face-to-face relationships, and they will get more sleep.
Limit the amount of virtual(虚拟的)violence your children are exposed to.It's not just video
games and movies;children see a lot of murder and crime on the local news.
Keep your expectations for your children reasonable. Many highly successful people never attended Harvard or Yale.
Make exercise part of your daily routine. It will help you cope with your own anxieties and provide a good model for your kids.Sometimes anxiety is unavoidable. But it doesn't have to ruin your life.
71.The author thinks that the conclusions of any research about people's state of mind are .A.surprising B.confusing C.illogical D.questionable 72.What does the a uthor means by saying “we can't rum the clock back'’(Para.3)?
A.It's impossible to slow down the pace of change.
B.The social reality children are facing cannot be forgotten.
C.Lessons learned from the past should not be forgotten.
D.It's impossible to forget the past.
73.According to the analysis, compared with normal children today, children treated as mentally ill 50 years ago .
A.probably suffered less from anxiety B.were probably less self centered
C.were less isolated physically D.were considered less individualistic 74.The first and most important thing parents should do to help their children is .A.to improve them with a safer environment B.to lower their expectations for t hem C.to get them more involved socially D.to set a good model for them to follow 75.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Sometimes local news about crimes and murder also affects children a little.
B.TV and computer play an important role in isolating children from the real world.
C.To children,anxiety is completely avoidable.
D.Exercise does not help to lessen children's anxiety.

What does beauty really mean? Everyone has its own definition.
Some students think that a nice face is a letter of recommendation.Good appearance often makes a big difference in social communication, competition, finding jobs and so on.Not only can it help you become more confident, but also it helps you be impressed.Physical beauty is likely to draw much attention.
Other students have different opinions. They hold the idea that good appearance will buy no beef.Spiritual beauty is more important.A beautiful person is not the one with a good looking, but the one with a broad and kind heart.
Actually,as is known to all,the standard of beauty changes with different societies, cultures and nations.Even if you don't have a nice face, you still can be attractive if you are a person with a kind heart and broad intelligence.

(A dog barks.)
M:Hey,can you get your dog to stop barking? Some people are trying to sleep around here!
W:Now,wait a minute! Prince is just barking because your cat is screaming all over the
place!
M:But do you know what time it is? It's one a.m.and I've got to get up at six to go to work.If I don't get some sleep soon, there'll be one less dog in the world!
W:Are you frightening my dog?
M:I'm merely telling you the truth.Barking at night is one of the leading causes of death of dogs.
W:You’re mad!
M:That's possible.Get your dog to close his mouth.
W:You ought to shut your own mouth!
M:Bernice! Get the poison!
W:Now,come here,Prince.Nice boy.I'm going to take you inside.

Hello, everyone.Today I'd like to talk about advertising on the Web.You have to be careful not to be fooled or tricked by the advertisements on the Internet, just because something is said to be a bargain doesn't always mean it's cheap.Maybe it's actually cheaper in a regular shop. And often something that is supposed to be new and improved has only changed the package design!
Now t he best part is,of course, the shopping.I love to buy articles of everyday use,so I can get lots of information about them on websites online. For example,if I want a camera.I can check its quality on a camera website on the net.I can even download pictures taken by the camera to test its quality! And shopping online can save time. You don't have to go to a shop or walk around a crowded shopping are,so you needn't waste much time. The Internet is really useful for shopping, but be careful not to spend too much.Happy shopping.。
