A Journey of Self-Discovery and Growth
As I embarked on my journey through Module 3 of our 7th grade English textbook, little did I know the profound impact it would have on me. This module, titled "Realizing Dreams," proved to be a catalyst for self-reflection, personal growth, and a deeper understanding of what it means to pursue one's aspirations.
The first unit, "Chasing Dreams," immediately captured my attention with its thought-provoking stories and engaging activities. We read about individuals who defied societal norms and stereotypes to chase their dreams, refusing to let obstacles stand in their way. The story of the young girl from a remote village who became a renowned scientist inspired me to never underestimate the power of determination and perseverance.
One of the most eye-opening experiences was the class discussion on the importance of having role models and mentors.
I realized that surrounding ourselves with individuals who have
achieved their dreams can provide invaluable guidance and motivation. Their stories serve as beacons of hope, reminding us that with hard work and dedication, even the most far-fetched dreams can become a reality.
The second unit, "Overcoming Challenges," delved into the various obstacles that one might encounter on the path to realizing their dreams. From personal insecurities to societal pressures, we explored strategies to overcome these hurdles and maintain a positive mindset. The unit's emphasis on resilience and adaptability struck a chord with me, as I realized that setbacks are inevitable, but how we respond to them is what truly matters.
I vividly remember the engaging group activity where we had to identify and discuss our personal strengths and weaknesses. It was an eye-opening experience that helped me recognize areas where I excel and areas that require further development. This exercise instilled in me the importance of self-awareness and continuous improvement, as they are crucial for pursuing one's dreams effectively.
The third unit, "Embracing Diversity," broadened my perspectives on the richness of cultural differences and the value of embracing diversity. Through thought-provoking readings
and interactive activities, we explored how various cultures approach the concept of dreams and aspirations. I was particularly fascinated by the way certain indigenous communities view dreams as a spiritual journey, intertwined with their traditions and belief systems.
One of the highlights of this unit was the guest speaker, a successful entrepreneur from a diverse background, who shared their inspiring story of overcoming cultural barriers and societal prejudices to achieve their dreams. Their message of embracing one's unique identity and using it as a source of strength resonated deeply with me, and I gained a newfound appreciation for the beauty of diversity.
As we neared the end of Module 3, the final unit, "Making a Difference," challenged us to reflect on how our dreams and aspirations can positively impact the world around us. We explored examples of individuals who used their talents and passions to create meaningful change in their communities and beyond.
The culminating project for this module was a group presentation where we had to develop a plan to address a social or environmental issue that resonated with us. Our group chose to tackle the issue of food insecurity in our local community, and
we proposed a comprehensive strategy involving community gardens, food banks, and educational initiatives. This hands-on experience taught me the power of collaboration, teamwork, and using one's dreams as a catalyst for positive change.
Throughout Module 3, I not only gained valuable knowledge and skills but also experienced a profound personal transformation. I learned to embrace my individuality, cultivate resilience, and approach challenges with a growth mindset. The module's emphasis on diversity and inclusivity broadened my horizons and instilled in me a deep respect for different cultures and perspectives.
Perhaps the most significant lesson I learned was the importance of aligning my dreams with a sense of purpose and a desire to make a positive impact. I realized that true fulfillment comes not only from achieving personal goals but also from using our talents and passions to contribute to something greater than ourselves.
As I reflect on my journey through Module 3, I am filled with gratitude for the enriching experiences and the invaluable lessons it has imparted. This module has equipped me with the tools and mindset necessary to navigate the challenges that lie
ahead and to pursue my dreams with unwavering determination and purpose.
I am eager to apply the insights and skills I have gained to my future endeavors, embracing the idea that dreams are not mere fantasies but rather powerful forces that can shape our lives and the world around us. With a newfound sense of confidence and a deeper understanding of what it means to "realize dreams," I am ready to embark on the next chapter of my journey, armed with the knowledge that with hard work, resilience, and a commitment to make a positive impact, anything is possible.

Unit 3: A Changing World
The world we live in today is vastly different from the one our grandparents grew up in. With advancements in technology, shifts in cultural norms, and an ever-increasing global interconnectedness, our way of life has undergone a dramatic transformation. As a student witnessing these changes firsthand, I can't help but reflect on the profound impact they have had on our society.
One of the most significant changes we've experienced is the rapid growth of technology. Just a few decades ago, the internet was a novel concept, and personal computers were a luxury. Today, we carry powerful smartphones in our pockets, giving us instant access to a wealth of information and communication tools. The rise of social media has revolutionized how we connect with others, allowing us to share our thoughts, experiences, and even our daily lives with people across the globe.
While technology has brought many conveniences, it has also raised concerns about its impact on our well-being. The constant stream of information and notifications can be overwhelming, leading to increased stress and anxiety. Additionally, the prevalence of cyberbullying and online harassment has become a significant issue, particularly for young people who spend a considerable amount of time online.
Another significant change we've witnessed is the shift in cultural norms and values. Our society has become increasingly diverse, with people from different backgrounds, beliefs, and identities coexisting and embracing their differences. This has led to a greater acceptance and celebration of diversity, but it
has also brought challenges in navigating cultural differences and fostering understanding among different groups.
One area where we've seen a notable shift is in gender roles and expectations. Traditional gender norms have been challenged, and there is a growing movement towards gender equality and inclusivity. This has opened up new opportunities for individuals to pursue their passions and aspirations without being limited by societal expectations based on their gender.
Environmental concerns have also taken center stage in recent years. The impacts of climate change, pollution, and unsustainable practices have become increasingly evident, prompting a global call for action. Many young people, like myself, have been at the forefront of this movement, advocating for sustainable practices and holding leaders accountable for their actions.
While these changes have brought both challenges and opportunities, one thing is certain: the world we live in today is vastly different from the one our grandparents knew. As students, we are tasked with navigating this ever-changing landscape and adapting to the new realities that arise.
Personally, I find these changes both exciting and daunting. On one hand, the rapid pace of technological advancements and
the increasing acceptance of diversity offer countless possibilities for personal growth and exploration. On the other hand, the complexities of navigating these changes can be overwhelming, and the uncertainties of the future can be unsettling.
Despite the challenges, I believe that embracing change is crucial for our personal and societal growth. By remaining open-minded, curious, and adaptable, we can harness the opportunities that come with change and contribute positively to the world around us.
As students, it is our responsibility to educate ourselves about the changes happening in our world and to develop the skills and mindset necessary to thrive in this dynamic environment. This means staying informed about technological advancements, being culturally aware and respectful of diversity, and understanding the urgency of environmental issues.
Ultimately, the world we live in today is a product of the changes that have occurred over time, and it will continue to evolve in ways we cannot yet imagine. It is up to us, the younger generation, to shape the future and create a world that is more just, sustainable, and inclusive.
In conclusion, the changing world we live in presents both challenges and opportunities. While the rapid pace of change can be overwhelming, it is crucial that we embrace it with an open mind and a willingness to adapt. By doing so, we can harness the potential of these changes and create a better future for ourselves and generations to come.

My Family's Chinese New Year Traditions
For my family, the most important holiday of the year is Chinese New Year. It's a time when we get together with our extended family, eat lots of delicious food, and take part in long-standing traditions. I always look forward to the celebrations and festivities of Chinese New Year.
The preparations for Chinese New Year actually start a few weeks before the holiday itself. My mom is in charge of cleaning our entire house from top to bottom. She says it's important to sweep away any bad luck and make room for incoming good luck and prosperity in the new year. Even my brother and I have to help by dusting, vacuuming, and cleaning our rooms really well. It's a lot of work but it makes the house feel refreshed.
Once the house is sparkling clean, my mom starts cooking all sorts of special dishes for our big reunion dinner on New Year's Eve. There are dumplings for luck, a whole steamed fish for abundance, and longevity noodles that you can't cut or else you'll cut off your luck. My favorite is the nian gao, which is a sweet sticky rice cake. Many of these dishes have symbolic meanings related to attracting wealth, happiness, and good fortune.
On New Year's Eve, we always watch the annual TV celebration show that has singing, dancing, comedy sketches, and the countdown to the new year. When midnight comes, there are fireworks going off all over outside as we shout "Guo Nian Hao!" to each other, meaning "Happy New Year!" Then the feasting starts and we enjoy our delicious reunion dinner together as a family.
After dinner, it's time for the adults to hand out red envelopes containing cash to the kids. Getting those red envelopes filled with "lucky money" is one of the best parts of the evening for me and my cousins. We always try to stay up late into the night since it's considered bad luck to go to sleep before midnight on New Year's Day.
The next morning, we put on our new clothes that we received as gifts and the whole extended family gets together again for breakfast dumplings and other lucky foods. For the next couple of weeks, we continue celebrating by visiting friends and relatives, watching dragon dances and fireworks shows, eating lots of yummy snacks, and just spending quality time together.
One of my favorite traditions is on the 15th day of the new year, which is the Lantern Festival. My family always goes out and enjoys looking at the colorful lanterns hung up everywhere with riddles written on them. Trying to solve the riddles is fun and games ensue as people make guesses. Of course, the evening ends with delicious sweet snacks like tang yuan (sweet rice balls) and lots of laughter.
When I'm eating those sticky rice balls at the Lantern Festival, it always feels a bit sad knowing that the Chinese New Year celebrations are coming to an end. But I also feel happy and thankful for being able to spend so much quality time with my family while honoring our cultural traditions.
Those two weeks of being together, practicing rituals passed down through generations, eating lucky foods, and feeling that warm sense of community is what makes Chinese New Year so
incredibly special. It's a time for families to reunite, reflect on the past year, and look ahead to a new year filled with hope, blessings, and happiness.
Chinese New Year truly is the most wonderful time of the year for me and my family. I cherish all of the traditions, the symbolism, and most of all, the chance to bond with my loved ones. Even though I'm still young, I know I want to continue upholding these customs when I'm older so I can eventually pass them down to my own children someday. Chinese New Year is such an important part of my cultural identity and I'm proud to celebrate it every year.。
