Good morning/afternoon/evening,
I stand before you today as a representative of Japan, a nation fully committed to the goals and principles of the United Nations. It is an honor and privilege to address this esteemed assembly and share with you our perspective on a range of important global issues.
Firstly, I would like to express our appreciation for the invaluable work that the United Nations has undertaken over the years. We firmly believe that it is only through international cooperation and collective action that we can address the complex challenges of our time and promote peace, security, and sustainable development for all.
1. Peace and Security
Japan recognizes the importance of maintaining peace and stability in a world filled with conflicts and threats. We firmly support the UN's efforts in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, and peacebuilding. As a responsible member of the international community, Japan has actively contributed to peacekeeping operations around the world, providing personnel, financial assistance, and technical expertise.
Moreover, we are deeply concerned about the proliferation of nuclear weapons and the threat they pose to global security. Japan stands firmly behind the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of
Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and encourages all countries to adhere to its provisions. We continue to advocate for a comprehensive ban on nuclear testing and the complete elimination of nuclear weapons.
2. Sustainable Development
Japan acknowledges the pressing need to promote sustainable development in order to alleviate poverty, reduce inequalities, and safeguard the environment. We have made significant contributions to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), both domestically and internationally.
Our efforts focus on areas such as poverty eradication, quality education, resilient infrastructure, and climate change adaptation. We are committed to investing in renewable energy sources, promoting energy efficiency, and implementing environmentally friendly policies. Japan also actively participates in international climate change conferences, working towards the achievement of the Paris Agreement's goals.
3. Economic Development
Japan has long been known for its technological advancements, innovation, and strong economy. We are willing to share our knowledge and experiences with other nations to foster economic growth and prosperity for all.
We believe in the power of international trade as a driver of economic development. As a founding member of the World Trade
Organization (WTO), we are committed to ensuring a fair and rules-based international trading system. We call upon all members to work together to address trade imbalances, reduce barriers, and promote inclusive growth.
4. Human Rights
Japan recognizes the fundamental importance of human rights and the dignity of all individuals. We are dedicated to upholding and promoting human rights domestically and internationally.
We actively participate in the United Nations Human Rights Council and other human rights mechanisms to address global human rights issues. Japan supports the principle of the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) and believes in the need to prevent and respond to the most serious international crimes, such as genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity.
In conclusion, Japan remains a steadfast partner and supporter of the United Nations. We stand ready to work together with all member states to promote peace, security, sustainable development, and the protection of human rights.
