Phoenix, Arizona, the USA was shaken by a big sandstorm recently. It was a huge dust storm that struck Phoenix a little after 7:00 p.m. local time.
Arizona has sandstorms particularly during the monsoon(季风) season which
usually starts from mid-June until the end of September. However, this was so far the biggest. The cloud of dust turned day into night. Some trees were downed, gardens were destroyed and it cut off power for thousands of local people along the area, but luckily no death happened. A number of the people’s pools became dirty with dust. People who lived in Phoenix for more than 40 years said that this was the first time they had expe rienced this huge dust storm. It could greatly influence people’s health.
The big dust cloud started in Tucson traveling north across the desert. The huge storm ran up to the 60 miles per hour. It was more than 100 miles wide and a mile high. Besides Phoenix and nearby cities, the storm also reached Yuma area in southwestern and far western Arizona. It reduced the visibility (能见度) in these areas, putting off the flights at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
The storm only takes place in Arizona, the Sahara Desert and areas of the Middle East, because of the dry environment and large amounts of sand. Because of the serious shortage of rain, there’s a large possibility that the water is polluted because of the storm.

Many everyday American expressions are based on colors.
Red is a hot color. Americans may say they are red hot about something unfair. They are red hot when they are very angry about something. The small hot-tasting peppers found in many Mexican foods are called red hot for their color and their fiery(辣的) taste. Fast loud music is popular with many people. They may say the music is red hot, especially the kind called Dixieland jazz.
Pink is a lighter kind of red. People sometimes say they are in the pink when they are in good health. The expression was first used in America at the beginning of the twentieth century. It comes from the fact that many babies are born with nice pink skin that shows that they are in good health.
The color black is often used in expressions. People describe a day on which everything goes wrong as a black day. A blacklist(黑名单) is illegal now. But at one time, some businesses refused to employ people who were on a blacklist for belonging to unpopular organizations.
The color green is natural for trees and grass. But it is an unnatural color for humans. A person who has a sick feeling in his stomach may say he feels a little green. A passenger on a boat who is feeling very sick from high waves may look very green.
Sometimes a person may be upset because he does not have something as nice as a friend has. That person may say he is green with envy. Some people are green with envy because a friend has more dollars or green-backs. Dollars are called greenbacks because green is the color of the black side of the paper money.

C. the person who is very angry

C
Friends play a very important part in everyone’s life. Friendship usually develops during childhood. New friends are made when you progress through school. Those friends that you make as a student can usually last long. Friends influence your development, maturity(成熟) and the sense of responsibility. A familiar opinion is “You can tell a lot about a person by knowing who his friends are.” Friendship is based on common interests. If you like sports, most of your friends are likely to be active. If you enjoy reading and shopping, most of your friends do the same.
Some people call you their friends for the wrong reasons. These people are not really frie nds. They are only “friends” on the outside, not the inside where it counts. Superficial (表面的)friends only want to be your friends if it is to their advantage. True friends are there whether you are rich or poor. It is easy to have many so-called “friends”if you are rich. By this time you should be able to recognize your friends as the “real” or the “false”.
True friends are most special. Sometimes they might not be easy to find, so you can consider yourself very lucky if you have one true friend. This friend is eager to help you whenever necessary. He or she knows you would do the same for them. A true friend is someone you can talk to about any subject or problem. You and your true friend have good understanding of each other. True friends support you, take your side, and build up your confidence.
45. What’s the main idea of the first paragraph?
A. How to make true friends.
B. What is friendship based on.
C. We should make friends in our childhood.
D. Friends play a very important role in our life.
46. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. It is easy to have many true friends if you are rich.
B. If you have no music in you, none of your friends will be a music lover.
C. The friendship developing during your school days will be with you for a long time.
D. What you value above anything is the friendship developing during childhood.
47. What does the underlined phrase “so-called friends” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Friends in need.
B. Those who can help you.
C. Those who often gives you money.
D. Those who want to benefit from you.
48. What’s the author’s attitude towards” true friends” according to Paragraph 3?
A. True friends are too difficult to find.
B. You can only share sadness with a true friend.
C. You can only share happiness with a true friend.
D. True friends will stand by you whatever happens
