Abstract: In order to eliminate the small molecular fragments generated by organic photoinitiators during photolysis, nano zinc oxide was prepared and waterborne polyurethane acrylates was synthesized. Nano zinc oxide with a certain weight percentage was used as an inorganic photoinitiator for waterborne UV-curable coatings. The nano zinc oxide and UV-cured films of waterborne UV-curable coatings were analyzed by infrared spectroscopy, ultraviolet spectroscopy,X-ray diffraction, Malvern particle size analyzer,Zeta potential,transmission electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. The mechanical and physical properties of the paint film were also tested ・ When the content of nano zinc oxide is 1%, the UV-cured film provided a hardness of H, adhesion of grade 0, gloss of about 90, and good water resistance, alkali resistance and excellent ethanol resistance ・ It was demonstrated that nano zinc oxide could be used as an alternative photoinitiator to organic photoinitiators for waterborne UV-curable polyurethane acrylates, making the waterborne UVcurable coatings more environmental friendly and better quality.
