三、阅读(共两节,满分40分)
第一节:阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
A
Some children are natural-born bosses. They have a strong need to make decisions, manage their environment, and lead rather than follow. Stephen Jackson, a Year One student, “operates under the theory of what’s mine is mine and what’s yours is mine,” says his mother. “The other day I bought two new Star Wars light sabers(剑). Later, I saw Stephen with the two new ones while his brother was using the beat-up ones.”
“Examine the extended family, and you’ll probably find a bossy grandparent, aunt, uncle or cousin in every generation. It’s an inheritable trait,” says Russell Barkley, a professor at the Medical University of
South Carolina. Other children who may not be particularly bossy can gradually gain dominance(支配地位)when they sense their parents are weak, hesitant, or in disagreement with each other.
Whether it’s inborn nature or developed character at work, too much control in the hands at the young isn’t healthy for children or the family, Fear is at the root of a lot of bossy behavior, says family psychologist John Taylor. Children, he says in his book From Defiance to Cooperation, “have secret feelings of weakness” and “a desire to feel safe.” It’s the parents’ role to provide that protection.
When a “boss child” doesn’t learn limits at home, the stage is set for a host of troubles outside the family. The overly willful and unbending child may have trouble obeying teachers or coaches, for example, or trouble keeping friends. It can be pretty lonely as the top dog if no one likes your bossy ways.
“I see more and more parents giving up their power,” says Barkley, who has studied bossy behavior for more than 30 years. “They bend too far because they don’t want to be as strict as their own parents were. But they also feel less confident about their parenting skills. Their kids, in turn, feel more anxious.”
41. Bossy children like Stephen Jackson .
A. make good decisions
B. show self-centeredness
C. lack care from others
D. have little sense of fear
42. The underlined phrase “inheritable trait” in Paragraph 2 means .
A. inborn nature
B. developed character
C. accepted theory
D. particular environment
43. The study on bossy behavior implies that parents .
A. should give more power to their children
B. should be strict with their children
C. should not be so anxious about their children
D. should not set limits for their children
44. Bossy children may probably become .
A. relaxed
B. skillful
C. hesitant
D. lonely
45. What is the passage mainly about?
A. How bossy behavior can be controlled.
B. How we can get along with bossy children.
C. What leads to children’s bossy behavior.
D. What effect bossy behavior brings about.
B
This year twenty-three hundred teen-agers from all over the world will spend about ten months in US homes. They will attend US schools, meet US teen-agers, and form impressions of the real America. At the same time, about thirteen hundred American teen-agers will go to other countries to learn new languages and gain a new understanding of the rest of the world.
Here is a two-way student exchange in action. Fred, nineteen, spent last year in Germany with George's family. In turn, George's son Mike spent a year in Fred's home in America.
Fred, a lively young man, knew little German when he arrived, but after two months' study, the language began to come to him. School was completely different from what he had expected-much harder. Students rose respectfully when the teacher entered the room. They took fourteen subjects instead of the six that are usual in the United States. There were almost no outside activities(活动).
Family life, too, was different. The father's word was law, and all activities were around the family rather than the individual. Fred found the food too simple at first. Also, he missed having a car. "Back home, you pick up some friends in a car and go out and have a good time. In Germany, you walk, but you soon learn to like it."
At the same time, in America, Mike, a friendly German boy, was also forming his idea. "I suppose I should criticize(批评)American schools", he says. "It is far too easy by our level. But I have to say that I like it very much. In Germany we do nothing but study. Here we take part in many outside activities. I think that maybe your schools are better in training for citizens(公民). There ought to be some middle ground between the two. "
46. This year _____ teen-agers will take part in the exchange programme between America and other
countries.
A. twenty three hundred
B. thirteen hundred
C. over three thousand
D. less than two thousand
47. The whole exchange programme is mainly to _____ .
A. help teen-agers in other countries know the real America.
B. send students in America to travel in Germany
C. let students learn something about other countries
D. have teen-agers learn new languages
48. Fred and Mike agreed that _____ .
A. American food tasted better than German food
B. German schools were harder than American schools
C. Americans and Germans were both friendly
D. There were more cars on the streets in America
49. Which of the following statements is not true?
A. American students needn’t rise respectfully when the teacher enters the room.
B. There are a lot of after-school activities in America.
C. Most of the German family life is quite democratic.
D. German students are required to take more subject than American students.
50. After experiencing the American school life, Mike thought _____ .
A. a better education should include something good from both America and Germany
B. German schools trained students to be better citizens
C. American schools were not as good as German schools
D. the easy life in the American school was more helpful to students
C
In cities with rent control, the city government sets the maximum rent that a landlord can charge for an apartment. Supporters of rent control argue that it protects people who are living in apartments. Their rent cannot increase; therefore, they are not in danger of losing their homes. However, the critics say that after a long time, rent control may have negative effects. Landlords know that they cannot increase their profits. Therefore, they invest in other businesses where they can increase their profits. They do not invest in new buildings which would also be rent –controlled. As a result, new apartments are not built. Many people who need apartments cannot find any. According to the critics, the end result of rent control is a shortage of apartments in the city.
Some theorists argue that the minimum wage law can cause problems in the same way. The federal government sets the minimum that an employer must pay workers. The minimum helps people who generally look for unskilled, low – paying jobs. However, if the minimum is high, employers may hire fewer workers. They will replace workers with machinery. The price, which is the wage that employers must pay, increases. Therefore, other things being equal, the number of workers that employers want decreases. Thus, critics claim, an increase in the minimum wage may cause unemployment. Some poor people may find themselves without jobs instead of with jobs at the minimum wage.
Supporters of the minimum wage say that it helps people keep their dignity. Because of the law, workers cannot sell their services for less than the minimum. Furthermore, employers cannot force workers to accept jobs at unfair wages.
Economic theory predicts the results of economic decisions such as decisions about farm production, rent control, and the minimum wage. The predictions may be correct only if “other things are equal”. Economists do not agree on some of the predictions. They also do not agree on the value of different decisions. Some economists support a particular decision while others criticize it. Economists do agree, however, that there are no simple answers to economic questions.
51.There is the possibility that setting maximum rent may ____________.
A. cause a shortage of apartments
B. worry those who rent apartments as homes
C. increase the profits of landlords
D. encourage landlords to invest in building apartment
52. According to the critics, rent control _______________.
A. will always benefit those who rent apartments
B. is unnecessary
C. will bring negative effects in the long run
D. is necessary under all circumstances
53. The problem of unemployment will arise ____________.
A. if the minimum wage is set too high
B. if the minimum wage is set too low
C. if the workers are unskilled
D. if the maximum wage is set
54. The passage tells us ____________.
A. the relationship between supply and demand
B. the possible results of government controls
C. the necessity of government control
D. the urgency of getting rid of government controls
55. Which of the following statements is NOT true?
A. The results of economic decisions can not always be predicted.

Online Shopping Experience Sharing
Want to go out shopping but afraid of traffic jam on the road? You can always go for second choice, which is to sit at home and wait for delivery. Consumers can buy the products or services they like from any parts of the world. I would like to share one of my online shopping experiences. One of my experiences that I would love to share is online purchasing of air ticket from Air Asia Com. Previously, when I was still studying at University Malaysia Sabah, I was very new to the environment and without experience; I would go to the counter at the airport in order to purchase the air ticket. One glory morning, I saw an advertisement in newspaper showing that Air Asia launched a new promotion. An air ticket was only RMB 9. 99 ! I was so excited and rushed to the airport to get the promotion ticket. But the Air Asia staff told me the promotion was only valid for online purchasing and if I buy from counter at the airport, the price will be RMB 59. 99. So I hurried back and got the "lucky" ticket. Dear Michael,
Hi! I just came back from Britain last week. I was lucky enough to be one of the 25 students from many different countries to visit the UK from October 22 to 30. We visited many places, such as London, Oxford and the Lake District. London was one of my favorites because I learned a lot about British culture and history and I also liked Oxford, where I saw many old libraries. The Lake District was beautiful, but it was a pity that it rained heavily when we were there. The most exciting thing for me in Britain was that I made a lot of friends there.
Well, I'd better get back to my homework now. Bye.
第二节任务型写作(满分25分)Online Shopping
The passage tells us one of the experiences of Internet shopping by the author, who benefited from online shopping and got the much cheaper ticket compared to traditional shopping.
With the Internet entering our daily life more and more, online shopping is commonly used throughout the world nowadays. Internet shopping offers a number of benefits for the shoppers. The most important advantage is convenience. You can shop when you like as the online shop are open 24 hours a day and you do not have to queue with other shoppers. Secondly, it is easy to find what you are looking for online. However, every coin has two sides, so does Internet shopping. The main disadvantage of Internet shopping is that you cannot actually see the products you are buying or check their quality. Some people are also worried about paying for goods using credit cards.
As far as I am concerned, Internet shopping has advantages over disadvantages. It is very convenient,
time-saving; user- friendly and online shopping is much cheaper and more secured than before.。
