What would you do if you find out your best friend cheated in a maths exam? Here are a few choices:
●Tell him you know and will keep it a secret.
●Tell him it’s not right and ask him not to do it a gain.
●Learn from him.
What you do matters. It says something about your character. Character is the way you see things and how you deal with them. Every choice you make helps show the kind of person you are choosing to be. Having a good character means you do the RIGHT thing.
Take the exam cheat for example. If you tell your friend it’s not right to cheat in exams and ask him to stop doing that, you become an honest and responsible (负责任的) kid. Sometimes you may make your friend unhappy, but your honesty and responsibility will tell you to do the RIGHT thing.
Your character isn’t something you’re born with. Good character is something you can work on.
When you choose to help your deskmate with his study, you are showing consideration (体谅).
When you choose to work together with your teammates in a play, you’re showing cooperation (合作).
When you’re not afraid of school bullies (以强凌弱者) and ask your teacher for help, you’re showing courage.
Learn to make wise choices and do the right thing now! Every small step you take will help you become a better person.

What’s in that drink?
The weather is getting hotter and you’ll be getting thirstier playing basketball or riding home from school. A cold drink may be just the thing. But be careful what you pour down your throat. Something that looks cool may not be good
for your health.
There are plenty of so-called energy (能量) drinks on the market. Most of them have an attractive colour and cool name. Their nutrition (养分) lists also contains various things from vitamins to ginseng (人参). Sounds great!

Caffeine raises your heartbeat. Because of this, the International Olympic Committee has limited their use. The amount (数量) of caffeine in most energy drinks is at least as high as in a strong cup of coffee or strong tea.

Deciding what to wear in the morning is a challenge for some people. We often worry about what others will think of us because of our clothes. But researchers are beginning to think that our clothing has an equally powerful effect on how we see ourselves.
Scientists Adam Galinsky and Hajo Adams report that there is science behind our style. In their research, Galinsky and Adams had some participants(参加者) wear white lab coats similar to the ones scientists or doctors wear. Other participants wore their normal clothes. The participants took a test that measured their ability to pay attention. In the experiment, participants saw cards with different-colored words on them. They had to say the color of the word they saw, not the word itself. The people wearing the white lab coats said the correct color of the word more often.
Galinsky and Adams think that the white coats made the participants feel more confident and careful. The researchers also believe that other kinds of “symbolic”
clothes can influence the behavior of the people wearing them. A police officer’s uniform or a judge’s robe, for example, increases the wearer’s feelings of power or confidence. And in workplaces that have a dress code, “symbolic” clothes may also affect how well employees do their jobs.
Fashion blogger Jessica Quirk believes that our clothes greatly affect how we feel about ourselves. According to Quirk, “There is joy and luck and confidence in what we wear.” On her blog called “What I wore,” Quirk posts a photo of what she’s wearing every day. She says that people should pay more attention to what they wear. For example, we should choose a look that makes us feel more creative and happy. One way to do this at work is to “dress up for the exciting job we want,” she says, “not the boring job we have.” Another way is to wear special clothes that mean something to us. For example, Quirk wears one special pair of shoes to all her important meetings. They are her “lucky” shoes.
As Quirk points out—and as researchers have discovered—our clothes are “like our second skin.” The clothes we wear can affect our behavior. They can also tel l the world something about us, without us having to say a word.
62. What do you think paragraph 2 is mostly about?
A. A description of an experiment
B. The opinions of a blogger
C. A biography of two scientists
D. Advice from two scientists
63. What happened in Galinsky and Adams’ experiment? Put the steps into the correct order.
a. participants looked at the words each written in a different color.
b. the researchers counted the correct items.
c. the participants said the colors, not the words.
d. the researchers gave some participants white coats to wear.
A. d,c,a,b
B. d,a,c,b
C. b,a,c,d
D. b,c,a,d
64 In paragraph 3, some examples of symbolic clothes are mentioned to explain
A. why people wear uniforms
B. how s pecial clothes can change people’s behavior
C. why it is important to have a dress-code for certain jobs.
D. why police officer feels confident.
65. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The clothes we wear can affect how we feel
B. The clothes we wear should be symbolic
C. The clothes we wear make us feel more powerful
D. The clothes we wear can affect what others think of us.

Go to church, then have a big lunch, then go out to play while mum does the housework. That was a typical (典型的) British Sunday in the 1960s. But things now could not be more different.
Some British sociologists recently studied the typical British Sunday. They found that people get up later and do less housework than they did 40 years ago. They are far more likely to be out shopping or enjoying themselves than cooking Sunday lunch.
Sunday mornings were busy 40 years ago. Most women caught up on their weekly housework and cooked a nice lunch. They seldom allowed themselves any “leisure” until afternoon, after the dishes were cleaned. Then there would be another rush to
the table between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm for tea.
But now, Britons can have brunch at the restaurant. Fewer people bother to cook themselves.
“You only have two free days a week. You don’t want to have to waste o ne because there is nothing to do but watch boring TV,” said Elizabeth Biggs, 25, a producer in London.
“On Saturday you are recovering from the week,” Biggs added. “Sundays are the last chance for the weekend —you want to get as much as you can out of the day before you have to go back to work.”
In the past, British women usually did their shopping during the week, while the husband was at work. “Now men seem to do that as much as women,” said Jonathan Gershuny, a professor who took part in the study.
Men also do more housework now on Sundays. Back in the 1960s, men were far more likely to spend Sundays out of the house — at the pub or playing football — before lunch.
66. Many Britons have brunch at the restaurant because _______.
A. They have no time to cook at home.
B. They get up too late.
C. They won’t bother to cook themselves.
D. They will go to church.
67. Which of the following is NOT true?
A. Britons used to go to church on Sundays.
B. Britons usually had a big lunch at home.
C. British women did their shopping on Sundays in the past.
D. British men did little housework at home in the past.
68. The underlined word “ leisure” in Para 3 means ___________.
A. housework
B. shopping
C. lunch
D. free time
69. The text mainly tells us ________.
A. what Britons did on Sundays
B. why Britons go shopping on Sundays
C. How Britons spend their holidays
D. the changes of the ways the Britons spend their Sundays
70. What can we infer (推断) from the passage?
A. Men do more housework on Sundays.
B. Sundays in Britain might be very boring in the past.
C. No people go to church on Sundays now.
D. Britons all go out on Sundays.
五、任务型阅读:(共10 小题;每小题1分,满分10 分)
Different pressures in adolescence
As a teenager, there are so many pressures in your life and so many things are changing in adolescence(青春期). For example, your body is changing. When you observe yourself changing, you may not a always be happy with what you see. If you are a girl, your breast begin to grow. For some girls this may be embarrassing, especially if your friends haven’t developed yet. If you are a boy, you may start to grow facial hair, which can be equally embarrassing. Remember that everyone goes through these changes. Be proud of your body because it’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to do. It’s bringing you closer to being an adult.
Another difficulty a teenager faces is how to deal with social groups. You want to fit in but sometimes it’s difficult to break into certain groups. In this case, you can speak to members of the group individually(分别地)and if they accept you,
great; if not, leave it alone. If you try too hard to get into a group, they’ll be more likely to refuse you more, for fun. What’s more, it’s better to stay with those who you enjoy speaking with and feel comfortable with. In fact, it is the best thing to find someone who likes the way you are.
Teenagers may also have pressures in school. Teachers are going to prepare you for the outside world, which means you’ll have more schoolwork. At this time, you’d better take a step back and relax. After all, they just want you to succeed. In the real world, no ne will tell you what to do, but your boss will fire you if you don’t show up or finish your work on time. So take your time and make good use of it. if you have any problems you can share them with your teacher.
Besides all the demands(要求)at school, you may have more at home. If your parents have high expectations for you, you may feel pressure from different areas. But remember they just want the best for you. If your parents don’t care about how your study is or who your friends are, then you can find another adult like a teacher to believe in. once you get support from people you trust, your hard times will be over before you know it.

Dear boys and girls,
As we can see, some of our classmates are overweight or in poor health. I am here to tell you that it is important for us to keep fit.
Since we spend most of our time learning lessons, we don’t have much time for exercise. Some even think it is a waste of time taking exercise. Besides, some students like to eat fast food that is high in fat and calories, which is harmful to our health. That is why some of us are overweight or fall ill easily.
Here are some advice on how to keep fit. The best way to stay healthy is to have a balanced diet. Doing exercise on a regular basis is also beneficial to our overall health. An active lifestyle helps us feel energetic and less st but not least, since loss of sleep makes us look tired, we should make sure that we get sufficient sleep.
Nothing is more important than good h ealth. That’s all. Thank you.

Text 10
In the United States, boys and girls start school when they are five years old. In some states they must stay in school until they are sixteen. Most students are seventeen or eighteen years old when they graduate from secondary school. Another name for secondary school is high school. Most children go to public elementary and secondary school. The parents of public school pupils do not have to pay directly for their children's education because tax money supports the public schools. If a child attends a private school, his parents pay the school for the children's education. Today about half of the high school graduates go on to colleges and universities. Some colleges and universities receive tax money from the government. A student at a state university does not pay very much if his parents live in that state. Private
colleges and universities are expensive. Almost half of the college students in the United States work while they are studying. When a student's family is not rich, he has to earn money for part of his college expenses.。
