八、阅读理解(共15小题;共30分)
Laughter Yoga(瑜伽) is a unique technique invented by Dr Kataria, a doctor from India, by which you can learn to “Laugh for No Reason”. You don't even need a sense of humor, no funny jokes or comedy programs—just a willingness to laugh—and in the present climate everyone needs to laugh more.
Laughter Yoga is a combination of Laughter Exercises and Yogic Breathing, so that you increase the amount of oxygen in your body while being playful, resulting in you feeling healthier, energetic and alive. This actually changes the physical conditions of your body so that you start to feel happier. Laughter Yoga is generally done in groups although it can be practiced alone. When you make eye contact with someone and you're both willing to laugh, the laughter is increased. However, we do say that you can “Fake(假装) it, fake it till you make it” because the body doesn't know the difference between fake and true laughter; as long as you're willing to laugh you'll experience the same health benefits.
Laughter Yoga started in a park in Mumbai in 1995 with just 5 participants, and now there're over 6,000 laughter clubs in 60 different countries—showing the willingness of the world to laugh together.
In the UK, Julie was one of the first people to train as a Laughter Leader with Dr Kataria in June 2002. In 2006 she was awarded Laughter Ambassador for her selfless service to promote Laughter Yoga.
“Yoga has been part of my life for 30 years but 7 years ago my life changed when I discov ered Laughter Yoga. I believe laughter and yoga are both good for your health,” says Julie.
116. Why do people practicing Laughter Yoga laugh a lot?
A. They have a sense of humor.
B. They are amused by jokes.
C. They are willing to laugh.
D. They can't help laughing a lot.
117. What do we know about Julie from the passage?
A. She took up Laughter Yoga 30 years ago.
B. She helped make Laughter Yoga more popular.
C. She used to suffer from serious physical problems.
D. She was the first person to practise Laughter Yoga.
118. The purpose of the passage is to .
A. persuade people to take up Laughter Yoga
B. tell people how to practise Laughter Yoga
C. describe the good effects of Laughter Yoga
D. introduce Laughter Yoga as a new event
Next time you hear a funny joke you'd better not laugh too hard. According to a paper published by the British Medical Journal, laughter isn't always the best medicine. Sometimes it can even be harmful. Professor Robin Ferner from the University of Birmingham, one of the authors of the study, found that bad things could happen to people who laughed too much. He says, "We found people with heartbeat problems which had stopped their heart, we found people who had fainted(昏倒), and we found people who'd dislocated their jaws or burst their lungs."
It seems that laughing can be no laughing matter. But it's not all doom and gloom. Professor Ferner says there are benefits to laughing when you want to lose weight, for example. Yes, that's right: laugh and be slimmer! Professor Ferner explains that, "You use energy when you laugh, you move your diaphragm(横膈膜), you expand your lungs, and both those things can be helpful."
According to the research, laughing for a quarter of an hour can burn up to 40 calories, and if you laughed all day you'd use up about 2,000 calories, which is what most people consume in a day. But don't do that or you might end up with a painful jaw. Ouch! Or you might find people loo king at you in a funny way.
But I don't want to finish this article leaving you feeling desperate. Laughter comes naturally for most of us. Babies begin to laugh at around 3-6 months. So give in to your sense of humour and keep smiling. Life is short anyway.
119. Laughing too much may cause the following harmful results EXCEPT .

People often say that laughter is the best medicine. A British study suggests this is true, according to a report by AFP on September 14. A good laugh with friends can help you deal with pain. Researchers did two experiments. The first was done in a laboratory. Volunteers wore special wristbands(腕带). Some of them were asked to watch comedies such as Mr Bean or Friends while others watched serious programs about golf or wildlife. Then the wristbands were made tighter to see how much pain the volunteers could feel.
Another test was done at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Some volunteers watched a comedy show and others watched a theatrical drama (舞台戏剧). At the same time, the volunteers had to put their backs against the wall with their legs bent(弯曲的) as if they were sitting on a chair—a very uncomfortable position. They did this before and immediately after the show. Scientists found that just
15 minutes of laughter improved people's ability to stand pain by 10 percent. However, the serious programs and the drama had no effect on pain at all. “Using microphones(麦克风), we were able to record each of the volunteers and found that in a comedy show, they laughed for about a third of the time, and their pain tolerance(耐受性) rose,” said Robin Dunbar, head of the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Oxford. The study found that the magic effect of laughter comes from endorphins (内啡肽). These are chemicals(化学物质) produced by the human body that make you feel less pain and can make people feel happier. Exercises such as running, swimming and yoga can all produce endorphins. Your muscles(肌肉) move in and out when you are laughing. Scientists believe that this is tiring for muscles, so we start to produce endorphins. Scientists also found that the only laughter that worked was real and relaxed and not just polite laughter.
So next time you have a headache, get together with a group of friends, watch a funny movie and laugh. You will soon feel a lot better
123. What did scientists intend to find with the experiments?

You feel happiest when you create a healthy balance between giving and receiving. I f you give and give without making time to fill your own needs, then it's likely you will burn out, or feel upset. When you take and take without giving anything back, you never feel fulfilled, so you are always searching for ways to fill the void in your life.
The way to create a healthy balance between giving and receiving is to know and then live by your values. I break values up into two groups which I call being and having values. Your being values are the character traits of the ideal person you would like to be. I suggest to my clients that they choose three being values that they are willing to make a commitment to live by. An example of some being values are: kind, loving, generous, inspirational, peaceful, wise and even powerful. By acting on these values you give to others through your actions and you inspire others by being a positive role model. Mastering being these character traits becomes your life purpose.
Your having values are the feelings you need to create in order to be happy. These could be companionship, achievement, support, being valued or financial security. This is what you receive. You take responsibility for filling your own needs by taking steps to create these feelings and conditions in your life.
When you make a commitment to live by your being values, it becomes easier to make conscious choices rather than reactionary ones. If your usual pattern is to talk about your problems, you could choose to think and act like a calm person. A calm person might go for a walk, meditate, or set a time limit before responding. If your usual pattern is to worry, you could choose to act like a responsible or wise person. In other words, you would act like the person you choose to be—this is the key to personal power.
When you choose to act on your values, you not only feel good about yourself, but you reinforce your chosen beliefs. Over time acting in this way changes how you see the world, and in turn the way other people think of you.
127. The main purpose of this passage is to .
A. persuade the readers to make a commitment
B. inform the readers how to be truly happy

D. instruct the readers how to make wise choices
128. According to the text, living by your being values, you would .

B. fill your own needs
C. seek all human virtues
D. form positive personality
129. The underlined word "void" in Paragraph 1 means " ".
A. a feeling of emptiness
B. an absence of one's mind
C. a break of continuity
D. a state of confusion

The Importance of Positive Attitude
A positive attitude is very important as it will make our life easier. 131. There will be times when we will face problems and obstacles. The most challenging part is not when our life goes smoothly but how we react when we experience problems and difficulties.
Those who have a positive attitude will treat any problem as a challenge. Instead of being discouraged, they will treat each failure as a lesson. 132. As for those who do not have the positive attitude, they will see problems and difficulties in a different way.

Since having a negative attitude will eat up our time, why don't we just make good use of the same amount of time to have a positive attitude? Life itself is already hard. It will be much better if we have a positive attitude which will make our life happier and easier.
134. People will generally prefer to stay with people who have positive attitudes as being happy is very infectious(富有感染力的). Everyone will be affected by the energy of positive attitudes and they too will have a positive attitude.

W:If you really do that, you can save a lot of time on the road.
M:That's the main reason I made the decision.
W:Have you got enough money for your new flat?
M:Far from enough. But I can borrow half of it from my friends.By the way,can you possibly lend me some?
W:I can lend you some, but not much.As you know,I bought my flat only two years ago,and I haven't paid off the debts. Why don't you go to your parents for their support?
M:My parents are living in the countryside, and it's not easy for them to make money.
W:I think you can ask the bank for a loan.
M:Yes,I'm going to do that. W:How much money do you need in total?
M:600,000 at the most.
