21.(6分)Have you ever thought of quitting your job when you feel exhausted? Maybe mos t of you would say “yes”. After a particularly busy period at work, I decided to get away from it all by going on a hike in the mountains in southern France.
Before I left, I read an interesting story in a magazine. It read, “Once, while I was riding on a crowded bus, the man sitting next to me threw his cell phone out of the window when his phone rang. Billions of people across the world use cell phones. Though cell phones are a wonderful way for communication, they often do the exact opposite. Using cell phones can increase stress within families and friends.

I’ve met new people, started conversation s with neighbors I didn’t speak to before and talked with some of my friends face to face instead of chatting over the phone.

22.(8分)Billie Holiday was an American jazz singer and songwriter. Nicknamed Lady Day by her loyal friend and musical partner, Lester Young, Holiday had a great influence on jazz and pop singing. Her voiced style, strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of controlling tempo (节奏). Above all, she was admired for her deeply personal and direct approach to singing.
She co-wrote a few songs, and several of them have become jazz standards, notably God Bless the Child, Don’t Explain, and Lady Sings the Blues. She also became famous for singing jazz standards written by others, including Easy Living and Strange Fruit.

“It was really perfect,” said Julia Ruel le of her recent adventure to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness with three of her childhood friends. “By unplugging, we had an amazing time.”
Last year, the 16-year-old took part in an essay contest and carried off a prize. The award was a 5-day canoe and camping adventure with up to three friends. No parents or guides would be there. So Julia invited her friends Anna Wander, Madeline Wilson and Julianna Torelli.
The four Minnetonka High School juniors arrived in Ely for training the day
before they began the journey. They set out the next day at 7 a.m., quickly developing a routine.
“We were done paddling by noon,” Julia said. “We ate lunch at the campsites and then it was time for hammocks(吊床), reading, making friendship bracelets(手镯) and talking.”
The girls all had some experience in the outdoors before.
Anna had been to the Boundary Waters with her family. “I love how you are separated from everything in your life, especially technology,” Anna said. They left wet sleeping bags in one tent, and squeezed into another for the night. “Every thunderstorm in the Boundary Waters feels huge,” Julia said.

第二节书面表达(满分25分)
29、Dear Mike,
I’m very glad to have received the letter you sent me last week. I have been thinking about the question you asked me. From my point of view, you can choose to come to China after finishing your studies for the following reasons.
For one reason, Chinese development has offered quantities of job opportunities for the young over the past 30 years. What’s more, what you are stud ying is badly needed in China. As a matter of fact, many big companies in our city are hoping to hire people like you. For another reason, China is a country with so many different cultures and
traditions from the west that many foreigners enjoy living and working here. I am sure you will adapt to the environment quickly and enjoy your stay here.
If you come, I will do what I can to help you.
Best wishes.
Yours truly,
Li Hua。
