考点一take a message的用法
【课文原句】Can I take a message?我可以挡口信吗?(八下P72)
(1)take a message(for sb.)意为“挡口信(给某人)”。

He isn't here right now. Can I take a message?他现在不在这里。

我可以挡口信吗?Will you please take a message for your brother?你能给你哥哥挡个口信吗?(2)leave a message(for sb.)意为“留口信(给某人)”。

He won't come back soon, but you can leave a message for him.
他一时半会儿回不来,但你可以给他留个口信。

考点二explain的用法【课文原句】So could you explain what happenedthen?那么你能解释一下然后发生了什么吗?(八下P72)
(1)explain是动词,意为“解释;说明”,名词形式为
explanation;常用结构“explain+名词”或“explain十从句”;
explain oneself意为“解释;交代清楚”。

Can you explain this difficult problem?你能解释一下这道难题吗?
That explains why she is no there.那就解释了她为什么不在这里。

You had better explain yourself a bit more.你最好交代清楚些
(2)explain不能跟双宾语,只有explain sth. to sb.的用法。

Please explain it more simply to the children.请把它更简洁地向孩子们解释一下。

mention意为“提及;谈到”mention sth. to sb.向某人提及某事don't mention it 不客气
I mentioned the idea to Joan, and she seemed to like it.我向琼提过这个想法,她似乎很喜欢。

考点四refuse的用法
【课文原句】Yes,but she refused to listen.是的,但是她拒绝听。

(八下P72) refuse是动词,意为“拒绝”,后面可以跟名词、代词或动词不定式作宾语,也可以跟双宾语。

反义词为accept“接受”。

refuse+sth.拒绝某物refuse to sth.其绝做某事refuse sb.sth.拒绝某人某事
Why did he refuse our invitation?为什么他拒绝了我们的邀请?
He refused to answer any of his teacher's questions.他拒绝回答他老师的任何问题。

The mother can't refuse her son anything.这位母亲无法拒绝他儿子的任何事。

考点五whether的用法
Try to find out whether she feels lonely without you.你试着了解一下,看她是否会因为没有你而感到孤独。

(1)whether作“是否”讲时,常引导宾语从句。

Mary asked me whether I needed any help.玛丽问我是否需要帮助。

(2)whether还可意为“不管……(还是);或者……(或者)”,常与or连用,引导让步状语从句,从句中通常用一般现在时表示将来。

Whether you like it or not, you'll have to do it.不管你喜不喜欢,你必须做这件事。

(3)【辨析】whether和if
①whether和if都可以引导宾语从句,表示“是否”,在口语或间接引语中两者可以互换使用
I wonder whether/if I can get some advice from you.我想知道我能否从你那得到一些建议。

②whether引导的从句可与or not直接连用,而if一般不能
Let me know if you can come.让我知道你是否能来。

It remains to be seen whether or not this idea is right.
这个想法是否正确还有待观察。

③当宾语从句提到句首时,只能用whether引导,而不能用if
Whether it is true or not,I can't tell.是真是假,我无法断知。

考点六patient的用法【课文原句】So be patient with her and explain toher that she can make friends with your other friends too.所以,对她要有耐心,向她解释她也能与你的其他朋友交朋友。

(1)patient作形容词时,意为“有耐心的;能忍耐的”,be patient with sb.意为“对某人有耐心的”。

(2)patient作名词时,意为“病人”,其复数形式为patients。

The doctor is very patient with his patients.这位医生对他的病人们很有耐心。

考点八avoid的用法【课文原句】And we should avoid making any noise in the background!我们在背景中应当避免发出任何杂音!(八下P80)
avoid是动词,意为“避免;防止”,其后可接名词或代词作宾语,也可接动词-ing 形式作宾语,但是不能接动词不定式作宾语
Lily avoided answering my questions.莉莉避而不答我的问题。

考点九look down的用法
【课文原句】"How old are you?"The radio manager looked down at me.“你多大了?”播音经理低头看着我。

(1)look down意为“向下看”。

反义词组look up意为“向上看;仰视”。

(2)其他固定搭配look down at sb.低头看某人look down on/upon sb.看不起某人You may look down at him but you shouldn't look down on him.你可以低头看他,但你不应当看不起他。

考点十seem的用法
【课文原句】It seemed that they were speaking not to lots of listeners but to me in person.似乎他们不是在和广大听众说话,而是亲自在和我说话。

It seems/seemed+that从句“看起来好像,似乎……”There seems to be+名词“似乎有……seem like...“好像/似乎……”
