14、Now over the years, real Chinese snacks have become more popular in foreign countries.
In the United States, people are eating roujiamo. Many people call roujiamo from Shanxi Province of China the “Chinese hamburger”. It has two pieces of bread with delicious meat between them. The US news blog (博客) even regards roujiamo as “the world’s first hamburger”. It is very similar to an American hamburger. In fact, it has a long history in China.
In Russia, hundreds of tanghulu were sold in just a few hours. Tanghulu is a traditional Chinese snack that is made of fruit, usually Chinese hawthorns(山楂). It is a bit like candy apples in the US. They are the hawthorns with sugar candy. A stick is pushed into the fruit so you can hold it like a lollipop(棒棒糖). Some Chinese people think tanghulu has the same shape as a bottle gourd(葫芦). That’s why it has this name. Of course, the new kind made of other fresh fruit such as strawberries and oranges has also appeared in China now.

15、It can be hard to meet people from another culture. From the beginning, people may send the wrong signal (信号). Or they may pay no attention to signals from another person who is trying to develop a relationship.
Different cultures emphasize(强调)the importance of relationship building to a greater or lesser degree. For example, business in some countries is not possible until there is a relationship of trust. Even with people at work, it is necessary to spend a lot of time in “small talk”, usually over a glass of tea, before they do any job. In many European countries—like the UK or France—people find it easier to build up a lasting working relationship at restaurants or cafes rather than at the office.
Talk and silence may also be different in some cultures. I once made a speech in Thailand. I had expected my speech to be a success and start a lively discussion; instead there was an uncomfortable silence. The people present just stared at me and smiled. After getting to know their ways better, I realized that they thought I was talking too much. In my own culture, we express meaning mainly through words, but people there sometimes feel too many words are unnecessary. Even within Northern Europe, cultural differences can cause serious problems. Certainly, English and German cultures share similar values; however, Germans prefer to get down to business more quickly. We think that they are rude. In fact, this is just because one culture starts discussions and makes decisions more quickly.
People from different parts of the world have different values, and sometimes these values are quite against each other. However, if we can understand them better, a multicultural(多元文化)environment will offer a wonderful chance for us to learn from each other.
1.In some countries, eating together at restaurants may make it easier for people to ______.
A.keep each other company
B.share the same culture
C.get to know each other
D.develop closer relations
2.The writer mentions his experience in Thailand to show that ______.
A.too many words are of no use
B.the English prefer to make long speeches
C.even talk and silence can be culturally different
D.people from Thailand are quiet and shy by nature
3.What would be the best title for the passage?

B.Cross-Cultural Differences
C.How to Understand Each Other
D.How to Build Up a Relationship

In today’s Internet age, the demand for online games continues to grow. Online computer game centers exist in many cities and towns all over throughout Asia. Facing the pressures of school and life, people expect a diversion from these problems. Too often, however, they can lead to problems and unhealthy addictions(嗜好).
This is most clearly seen in the example of South Korea. The country has the world’s highest percentage of high-speed Internet services. It also has a high number of online game players and related problems. In 2010, a young man collapsed (突然晕倒) and died while playing online games. He had been playing almost nonstop for 86 hours at an Internet café. Another young man killed his sister after becoming confused between the online world and real life. A

What kinds of people develop online game addiction? What does the problem look like? Dr. SueHuei Chen, a clinical psychologist, researches Internet addiction. Those problem individuals feel it so compulsive(强迫性的) to play online games that they could give up things such as school or family. They feel the need to spend more and more time online. And they become upset if anyone tries to limit their online game playing.
How many problem game players are there? In mainland China, the number of problem online gamers is alarming. In 2012, the China daily reported that China had 13.8 million online game players. Furthermore, it stated that 80 percent of these were under 25 and had signs of addiction. Such numbers point toward a growing problem among Chinese youth. Make sure to keep control over your online game playing. If you don’t control it, it can get control of you.
