Have you ever imagined going inside of a video game? That dream may soon become real. These days you may have heard a lot about the word “metaverse（元宇宙）”. The Economist said the term would be popular. So what is it?
The metaverse is a virtual（虚拟的）3D world. The world first appeared in a science fiction book called Snow Crash in 1992. In the story, people wear virtual reality (VR) headsets（头盔设备）to see and join the metaverse.
Now, what happens in the book is becoming a reality. Wearing a VR headset, you can mix reality with fantasy（幻想）in this new world. It will feel real because the technology can simulate（模拟）our senses: sight, hearing, touch and even smell.
