使用第一人称描绘用鸬鹚捕鱼的英语作文Fishing with the Cormorants
I could hardly contain my excitement as we walked down the dusty path towards the riverbank. Today was the day I had been looking forward to for weeks - my uncle was going to take me fishing with his specially trained cormorants!
These incredible birds have been used for centuries in my home province of Anhui to catch fish from the rivers and lakes. My uncle is one of the remaining masters of this ancient tradition. As we approached the water's edge, I could see his small wooden boat gently rocking with the current.
"Nihao, little fisherman!" my uncle greeted me with a wide smile, beckoning us over. "Are you ready for an adventure?"
"Nihao, uncle! I was born ready!" I exclaimed eagerly, barely able to stand still. He chuckled at my enthusiasm.
First, we had to prepare the cormorants. My uncle keeps them in a shaded aviary when they aren't fishing. He opened the large wooden door and six glossy black birds eagerly waddled out, their eyes glinting with focus.
My uncle crouched down and gently secured long loops made of cotton around the necks of each cormorant. "These loops allow the birds to swallow small fish, but prevent them from gulping down larger ones," he explained. "That way, when they catch big fish, the birds bring them back to the boat for us to retrieve."
I watched in awe as the cormorants arched their long serpentine necks, almost seeming to understand the task ahead of them. With the loops in place, my uncle ushered the birds into the shallow water at the riverbank.
He turned to me with a wry grin. "Watching the cormorants is hungry work. How about we enjoy some breakfast first?" From his pack, he produced some steamed bread buns, salted eggs, and a thermos of hot tea.
As we ate our simple meal, I peppered my uncle with a thousand questions about cormorant fishing. He answered each one patiently while we watched the birds glide through the water, periodically ducking their heads below the surface.
"Cormorants have been used for fishing across Asia for over a thousand years," my uncle explained. "They are ideally suited for the task with their incredible swimming ability, keen eyesight, and hooked beaks perfect for catching slippery fish."
He went on to describe how he had trained these particular birds over many years, imbuing them with discipline and rewarding them with tasty fish snacks. A well-trained cormorant will dutifully catch fish and return them to its master rather than swallowing them.
Finally, with our bellies full, it was time to take the boat out. I clambered aboard the small craft, trying my best not to rock it too much. My uncle joined me, cooing and clicking to summon the cormorants.
One by one, the sleek birds launched themselves from the bank, landing in the water with tiny splashes before swimming towards the boat. With remarkable agility, they hauled themselves aboard, seeming to understand this was now their hunting vessel.
My uncle took up the oars and we glided out into the middle of the river, the morning sun sparkling off the water's surface. He issued a commanding trill and the cormorants immediately slipped over the side, disappearing beneath the gentle current with just a few ripples.
I watched openmouthed, trying to catch a glimpse of the birds underwater. Abruptly, one burst back into the air, a wriggling silver flash clamped in its hooked beak! It swallowed
the smaller fish in one big gulp before diving again in search of a larger prize.
The other cormorants bobbed up and down in quick succession, some catching tiny fish and gulping them down, others thrashing in the water with bigger catches held fast. Whenever a bird secured a sizable fish, it would beat its wings furiously, signaling for my uncle's help.
With a curved bamboo basket, he would quickly scoop the cormorant and its catch aboard. The hapless fish would flop about on the deck for a few moments before my uncle unhooked it from the bird's beak, placing it in our steadily filling pail. Once freed, each cormorant would shake itself off vigorously before resuming the hunt.
I was mesmerized by the whole process - theCormorants' speed, skill, and determination mixed with my uncle's seamless choreography and the simple tools of his trade. This was no sport or mere pastime, but a deeply rooted tradition developed over countless generations.
As the morning wore on, our pail grew heavy with our bounty of carp, perch, and catfish. The cormorants seemed indefatigable, continuously plunging into the river and surfacing
with new prizes. I found myself clapping and cheering each time one returned with a shimmering fresh catch.
Eventually, my uncle declared we had more than enough for the day. He issued another series of trills and calls and the obedient cormorants returned to the boat, awaiting their own reward.
From a bucket, my uncle withdrew a generous portion of small fish. He held one up, allowing each cormorant to pluck it deftly from his fingers. For their tremendous work, the noble birds had earned a delectable feast of their own.
As we made our way back to the bank, I sat admiring our haul, still trying to fully process the incredible experience I had just witnessed. My uncle noticed my wistful expression and gave me an understanding nod.
"You see, little fisherman? Cormorant fishing is not just about catching fish, but carrying on an ancient tradition that connects us to our ancestors. It requires great skill, patience, and teamwork between human and bird."
He gestured at our pail with a calloused hand. "Of course, there is also the matter of providing food for one's family. But more than that, we honor the cormorants who enable us to live
off the bounty of the river through these practices carried down over thousands of years."
I thought about his words, feeling a profound sense of appreciation and wonder. Who could have imagined that these peculiar waterbirds could be such productive partners for people?
As we walked back home, my mind was already contemplating my next lesson: How could I convince my uncle to teach me the sacred whistles and commands? I knew there was still so much to learn, but felt deeply grateful for this first amazing experience of fishing with the cormorants along the ancient river.。
