A word consisting of one free root or one morpheme is a simple word. A free root is a free morpheme. e.g. man, talk, red, etc.
The difference
“word① “word-structure analysis” analyzes how they choose words that their contribution to the meaning and functions of that single word.
① “word-formation analysis” analyzes how “wordmorphemes combine to form words.
