可以说，形容词和副词的原级、比较级和最高级是这些年教育考试院认为的“核心语法”项目之一。

《义务教育英语课程标准》在对语言知识中有关语法项目的要求中指出:1.理解语法项目表中所列语法项目并能在特定语境中使用；2.了解语言形式的基本结构和常用表意功能；
3.在实际运用中体会和领悟语言形式的表意功能。

语法项目表中的第6项和第7项分别是形容词和副词的原级、比较级和最高级，是初中阶段要求学生熟练掌握并能够学会运用的重要语法项目之一。

学生不仅要熟练掌握形容词和副词基本的规则变化和不规则变化形式，更应当考虑结合恰当语境做出正确的判断。

熟练掌握形容词、副词的比较级和最高级变化形式，正确区分规则变化和不规则变化，尤其重点记忆形容词和副词的比较级和最高级的不规则变化形式。

在解题时，首先通读原句，正确理解句子所表达的含义，明确句子表达的是比较级还是最高级意义，然后再选择正确的变化形式。

通常情况下，在as, so, very, too, quite 等词后常用原级形式；在含有much, a little, even, than等词和两者相比的情况下，常用比较级；在句中三者相比，包含in, of 等表示范围的介词时多用最高级形式。

形容词、副词的比较级和最高级基本变化形式如下:
一、规则变化：
1. 单音节词和少数双音节词一般在词尾加er或est：

2. 以不发音的字母e结尾的加r或st：
large—larger—largest
3. 以辅音字母加y结尾的变y为i再加er或est：

4. 以一个辅音字母结尾的重读闭音节词，双写词尾再加er 或est:

5. 多音节词和以ly结尾的副词，通常在词前加more或most:

6. 部分形容词本身表示最高级意义，因此它们没有比较级和最高级形式：favorite
