The ancient village of Machu Picchu is one of the most popular tourist destinations in South America. It’s in Peru, high in the Andes Mountains, 8, 000 feet above sea level.
The village contains 200 buildings. Houses are in groups, and each house has a large courtyard inside its walls. The Incas(印加人) used the areas outside the groups of houses to grow corn and potatoes and to raise animals. The Incas were very good at building strong walls. Visitors to Machu Picchu still cannot fit a knife between the stones of a village home.
Machu Picchu seemed to be a healthy, busy village. So why was it lost? That is a mystery, but experts have some ideas. Machu Picchu was hard to reach. Few people outside the village knew about it. Experts think that many residents died of disease. Others fought a war. The survivors left the village.
The tourists are good for Peru’s eco nomy, but they are not good for Machu Picchu. The village is old and fragile. Tourists damage the ruins. Thousands of footsteps from visitors wear down the walkways in the village. Salt and oil from people’s hands damage the walls. Air pollution from buses hurts the stones. Tourists do not want to damage the village, but they want to see this beautiful, ancient place.
The Peruvian government and conservation groups are trying to solve the problem. A group from the United Nations wants to limit the number of tourists each year. They also want cars and buses to use cleaner fuel.
8. What crops did the Incas grow?
A. Rice and beans.
B. Tomatoes and peas.
C. Wheat and peas.

9. How do we know that Incas were good at building walls?

B. Visitors still cannot fit a knife between the stones.
C. Footsteps wear down the walkways in the village.
D. Each house has a large courtyard inside its walls.
10. Which word can best replace the underlined word “fragile” in fourth paragraph?
A. Beautiful.

“I felt so much more confident after I had my plastic surgery--liposuction(脂肪抽吸) .” said Wu, now a
30-year-old model and entrepreneur(企业家) based in Beijing. In the 16 years since that first surgery, Wu claims to have had over 100 ones, costing an unbelievable 4 million yuan. She is now a well-known advocate of the industry and has opened two beauty clinics offering plastic surgery in Beijing, and Wu’s potential market is huge.
A growing number of Chinese women are using plastic surgery to achieve bigger eyes, high cheekbones, narrow noses and skinny legs. Like Wu, many are seeking to imitate a beauty ideal inspired by elements of Japan’s comics, South Korea’s K-Pop and Western culture.
In 2014 more than 7 million Chinese people had plastic surgery, according to the China Association of Plastics and Aesthetics. Just three years later, data collected by Shanghai branch of Frost & Sullivan consultants suggested the figure was closer to 16.3 million.
According to experts interviewed by CNN, the trend in plastic surgery in China is partly due to a series of apps like So-Young and GengMei, which allow potential patients to view before and after photos, book surgeries and even apply for credit to pay for them.
“In China, it is very difficult to find reliable information on clinics, especially in smaller cities,” explained Tony DeGennaro, co-founder of Dragon Social, a Chinese market intelligence agency. “People no longer trust the search results offered by Baidu, following several medical scandals(丑闻) involving the platform, so these new apps have taken over as unofficial directories of surgeons.”
Despite the difficulties in choosing suitable clinics, a variety of people are crazy about plastic surgery, making the industry larger and larger.
12. What is Wu’s attitude towards plastic surgery?
A. Supportive.
B. Doubtful.
C. Objective.
D. Negative.
13. What is the purpose of the first paragraph?
A. To introduce a topic.
B. To give a summary.
C. To give an explanation.
D. To make a comparison.
14. Which statement is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Baidu offers reliable information on clinics.
B. Some plastic surgery apps become more popular.
C. Baidu is responsible for designing these new apps.
D. People never believe the search results from Baidu.
15. What is the best title of the passage?
A. To buy a new face with apps.
B. To keep fit by plastic surgery.
C. A big market of plastic surgery.
D. The advantages of plastic surgery apps.
【答案】12. A 13. A 14. B 15. C

根据第一段“ In the 16 years since that first surgery, Wu claims to have had over 100 ones, costing an unbelievable 4 million yuan. She is now a well-known advocate of the industry and has opened two beauty clinics offering plastic surgery in Beijing, and Wu’s potential market is huge.”讲述了吴女士对整形手术的经历和看法,第二段接着讲述现在有很多人为了变美而进行整形手术,所以第一段的目的是为了引入话题。
故选A。
3.细节理解题。
根据第四段中的“According to experts interviewed by CNN, the trend in plastic surgery in China is partly due to a series of apps like So-Young and GengMei, which allow potential patients to view before and after photos, book surgeries and even apply for credit to pay for them.”(美国有线电视新闻网(CNN)采访的一些专家表示,中国的整容风潮在一定程度上要归功于So-Young和更美等一系列应用程序,这些应用程序允许潜在患者查看手术前后的照片,记录手术情况,甚至申请信用卡来支付手术费用。
)和第五段最后一句“these new apps have taken over as unofficial directories of surgeons”(这些新的应用程序已经成为外科医生的非官方名录)可知,一些整形手术应用程序变得更加流行了,所以选项B对,故选B。
4.主旨大意题。
通读全文尤其根据最后一段“Despite the difficulties in choosing suitable clinics, a variety of people are crazy about plastic surgery, making the industry larger and larger.”(尽管选择合适的诊所很困难,但各种各样的人都热衷于整形手术,使得这个行业越来越大。

From her end of the conversation, I could tell right away her grandma was seriously ill. When she hung up, she quickly crawled(爬)under her covers, sobbing. Obviously, that was something she should not go through phone. All of a sudden, a warm feeling of sympathy rose up in my heart.

She was watching, her tears dried and her expression one of disbelief. Then, she reached out her hands to grasp mine. I looked up into her eyes. She smiled at me, "Thanks."

Sleep Struggle
One in every five young people has a sleep problem, so you're not alone. Getting enough sleep has become as important as eating vegetables and exercising regularly. It's very important for your body.
Most young people only get seven hours of sleep each night, when they actually need nine hours. And making up for lost sleep during the week by sleeping on weekends doesn't really work. In fact, sleeping late on weekends may actually do you more harm than good, if you have sleep problems.
What happens if you don't get enough sleep? If your sleep problem continues for a few nights, you could suffer serious problems. Lack of sleep can affect learning and memory. Worse,if your sleep difficulties last a long time, that could lead to anxiety(焦虑). Therefore, you've got to have some healthy sleep habits. Below are some suggestions:
* Go to bed at the same time—including weekends, if possible.

* Do something relaxing before going to bed.
* Exercise during the day. Don't exercise right before going to bed.
* Avoid drinking. Alcohol(酒精)makes you excited. This prevents you from falling asleep or wakes you up during the night.
* Don't smoke. Smoking is always bad for the body. Smoking before bedtime keeps you awake.
If trying these tips over a couple of weeks does not help you, consult your doctor. Do not take any medicine without first asking your doctor. Many of them have strong side effects.

Part of a research study, by scientists at McMaster University, which is ongoing into the influence of drinking milk after heavy weightlifting, has observed that milk helps exercisers burn more fat.
The scientists took three groups of young men 18 to 30 years of age, 56 in total, and put them through a strict, five day per week weightlifting program over a 12-week period. Following their workouts, study participants drank
either two cups of skim milk(脱脂奶),or a soy beverage with equal amounts of protein and energy,or a carbohydrate beverage with an equal amount of energy.
Upon the study's conclusion, scientists observed that: the milk drinking group had lost nearly twice as much fat—two pounds—as those in the carbohydrate beverage group, who lost one pound of fat. Those drinking soy beverages lost no fat. At the same time, the gain in muscle was much greater among the milk drinkers than either the soy or carbohydrate beverage participants.
As published in the first stage of the study, the milk drinking group came out on top in terms of muscle gain with an estimated 40 percent or 2.5 pounds more muscle mass than the soy beverage drinkers. In addition, this group gained 63 percent or 3.3 pounds more muscle mass than the carbohydrate beverage drinkers.
"I think the evidence is beginning to increase," says Stuart Phillips—the leader of the study. "Milk may be best known for its calcium(钙)content in supporting bone health, but our research, and later others', can continually support milk's ability to aid in muscle growth and also promote body fat loss. Milk is the ideal post workout drink for recreational exercisers and athletes alike."
32. How many days did the participants lift weights in the program?
A. 56 days.
B. 84 days.
C. 60 days.
D. 12 days.
33. What does the underlined word "beverage" probably mean?
A. A kind of medicine.
B. A sort of drink.
C. A type of exercise.
D. A piece of equipment.
34. According to the passage, we can know that
A. the scientists chose people aged 18,30 and 56 as participants of the research
B. a soy beverage is a proper choice for losing weight over the long term
C. people who drink milk every day are always healthier and thinner than others
D. soy beverages are better than carbohydrate beverages for exercisers to gain muscle
35. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. What exercisers should do to lose weight.
B. How milk influences people's health and figure.

Waste can be seen everywhere in the school. Some students ask for more food than they can eat and others often forget to turn off the lights when they leave the classroom. They say they can afford these things. But I don't agree with them.
Waste can bring a lot of problems. Although China is rich in some resources, we are short of others, for example, fresh water. It is reported that we will have no coal or oil to use in 100 years. So if we go on wasting our resources, what can we use in the future and where can we move?Think about it. I think we should say no to the students who waste things every day. Everybody should stop wasting as soon as possible.
In our everyday life,we can do many things to prevent waste from happening. For example, turn off the water taps when we finish washing, turn off the lights when we leave the classroom, try not to order more food than we need, and so on. Little by little, everything will be changed. Waste can be stopped one day,if we do our best.

In December, Facebook’s own researchers publicly questioned if Facebook could be a danger to the public’s health in mind. I’d already been considering whether to give up or not for months, but this news helped me to decide what I would do; I was done.
I’m a freelancer (自由职业). If I don’t work, I don’t get paid. Therefore, it’s fair to say that Facebook was influencing my work life and my pay. My working day used to go a little something like this: coffee, check emails, start writing, check Facebook, answer the phone, check Facebook, continue writing, check Facebook. You get the picture. Each work-related task was balanced out by social media, which made it difficult for me to focus on what I was doing.
Now that my Facebook does not work, I no longer have the chance to check it. I get much more work done and have time to reply to more emails and talk to possible clients (客户). However, the urge to log back on (重新登录) comes over me a few times per day, which makes me frightened. It could be a sign that I couldn’t live without social media.。
