事讲的是他从风暴中营救水手,帮助小孩和送礼物给穷人。

①save sb./sth. from sth/doing sth 挽救;援救;保全某人/(免受伤害损失等)
Eg. He saved a girl from drowning yesterday. 昨天他救了一名溺水女孩。

②gift “礼物”=present;还有“天赋;天才”的意思,常用词组 have a gift for …
Eg. My son has a gift for music.我儿子有音乐天赋。

③用作名词的形容词叫做名词化的形容词。

名词化的形容词常与定冠词连用,泛指一类人,表示复数概
念;还可指抽象概念,作主语用单数动词
Eg. The old are living a happier life.
The beautiful can never die. 美是不朽的。

2. Over the years, the stories about Santa Claus have grown. 许多年来,关于圣诞老人的故事越
来越多。

over, 此处的意思是,“贯穿(一段时间);在…期间”,相当于 during
Eg. Let’s discuss it over supper. 让我们边吃晚饭边讨论这件事吧。

3. Another American poem gave Santa a ninth reindeer: Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer.
另一首美国诗给了Santa又一匹驯鹿:鲁道夫,红鼻子的驯鹿。

①序数词前多用定冠词the, 但表示“又一,再一”时,需用不定冠词an或a.
I have failed twice, but I want to try a third time. 我失败了两次,但还想试一次。

②red-nosed 红鼻子的,形容词。

如:a three-legged chair 一把三条腿的椅子
