Surfing the Internet for fun will make you a better employee, according to an Australian study.
The University of Melbourne study shows that people who use the Internet for their own reasons at work are about 9 percent more productive than those who do not. Study author Brent Coker said, “Surfing the Internet at times helps increase an employee's attention.”
“People need to relax for a bit to get back their attention,” Coker said on the university's website. “Having a short break, such as a quick surfing of the Internet, helps the mind to rest itself, leading to a higher total Internet attention for a day's work, and as a result, increases productivity (生产效率),” he said.
According to the study of 300 workers, 70 percent of people who use the Internet at work surf the Internet for their own reasons during office hours. Among the most popular surfing activities are searching for information about products, reading online news, playing online games and watching videos. “Firms spend a lot of money on software toblocktheir employees from watching videos, using social networking sites or shopping online,” said Coker. “That's not always a good idea.”
However, Coker said the study looked at people who surfed the Internet in moderation (适度), or were on the Internet for less than 20 percent of their total time in the office. “Those who spend too much time surfing the Internet will have a lower productivity than those without.” he said.

Over the years, NASA has successfully sent several rovers (飞行器) to Mars. While the science laboratories continue to provide important information on the Red Planet, they keep the space exploration rovers staying closeto the original landing place. To get a more comprehensive (详尽的) view of Mars, the US Space Agency plans to make a small test helicopter with the Mars 2020 Rover, which will be sent off in July 2020.
The football-sized “marscopter” weighs about four pounds. It can fly at about ten times the speed of helicopters on Earth. The light weight and fast speed are important for the helicopter to be able to fly in the thin Mars atmosphere, which is about just one percent of that of Earth. “To make it fly in that thin Mars atmosphere, we had to make everything ready, and make it as light as possible while being as strong and powerful as it can possibly be. “Mimi Aung, Mars helicopter project manager, said in a meeting.
Upon landing on the Red Planet, the Mars 2020 Rover will find a proper location to send of the helicopter. The helicopter will start with a short climb, no higher than 10 feet, and hover (盘旋) for just 30 seconds before landing back on the Mars surface. If all goes well, five more flights of longer distances, for 90 seconds each, will be conducted over the next 30 days. The short journeys will be recorded by a small camera and sent back to the scientists on Earth.
If the plan goes on well, the first helicopter to fly in another world, will open up a whole new way to explore Mars. The Mars helicopter's first flight will be a great invention. For those of us whose research is about flight, that would be a wonderful, historic moment.

D. The helicopters first flight is successful.
11. What may be the best title for the passage?

B. To send a rover to Mars in 2020
C. To live in the thin Mars atmosphere
D. To send back records to scientists

Older adults with a better sense of smell may live longer than thosewho have a poor sense of smell, a new study suggests. The study was a project of researchers in theUnited Statesthat was ongoing for over 13 years. They asked nearly 2,300 men and women to identify 12 common smells. All the subjects were from 71 to 82 years of age. The researchers gave the adults scores, from 0 to as high as 12, based on how many smells they identified correctly.
During the years of follow-up investigation, over 1,200 of the subjects died. When the study was launched, none of the adults were weak. They could walk a little under half a kilometer, climb 10 steps and independently complete daily activities. In the latest findings, the researchers noted that those with a weak nose were 30 percent more likely to die than people with a good sense of smell. The findings were reported last month in the scientific publication Annals of Internal Medicine.
Honglei Chen, a doctor withMichiganStateUniversityinEast Lansing,Michigan, was the lead writer of a report on the study. He said the connection between a poor sense of smell and an increased risk of dying was limited to adults who first reported good-to-excellent health. This suggests that a poor sense of smell is an early and sensitive sign for worsening health before it is recognizable in medical tests. With a poor sense of smell, people are more likely to die of brain and heart diseases, but not of cancer or breathing disorders.
The results also suggest that a poor sense of smell may be an early warning for poor health in older age that goesbeyond dementia or other neurodegenerative(神经变性的) diseases. These often signal the beginning of a weakening of the mind or body.
12. What do you know about the study mentioned?
A. The study involved researchers from the world.
B. All the participants were of different ages.
C. The study began to be performed about 13 years ago.
D. 2 ,300 men and women were young and healthy.
13. What was the situation like at the beginning of the study?
A. More than 1,200 of the participants passed away.
B. Many of the subjects were found with health problems.
C. All the subjects were independent of others when walking.
D. One third of the participants had a poor smell sense.
14. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?
A. People with a poor sense of smell have heart disease.
B. You should be careful with your health if you smell poorly.
C. People with a poor sense of smell won't suffer from cancer.
D. Most of the elder people may have the dementia disease.
15. Which is the best title for the passage?
A. Strong Sense of Smell May Be Linked to Longer Life
B. Old People Tend to Have a Poor Sense of Smell
C. A Number of Factors Result in Longer Life
D. Being Ill Means Losing the Sense of Smell

第二节书面表达(满分25分)
52.Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 e your own words as far as possible.
Have you ever heard your own voice played back? Other people hear us differently from how we hear ourselves. The same is true of how we see ourselves. Each of us has a different self-concept. Our self-concept is the view you have of yourself. It may or may not mirror the way other people view you. This much is clear. Having a positive self-concept is an important part of good mental health.
Your self-concept starts forming when you are very young. Parents or guardians are the first and greatest influence. How they speak to you and treat you have a lasting effect. Grandparents sisters, brothers, and s have an effect too.Your skills and abilities also shape your self-concept. You may see yourself as a good basketball player or a good singer. You may feel you are good at writing stories but average in math. How you view your talents and abilities influences your overall self-concept.
Developing a positive self-concept is an important part of emotional health.Focus on your strengths rather than your weaknesses. When you focus on your weaknesses, you may begin to feel that you are not good at anything. Instead, identify what you do well and what you enjoy doing This will help you develop a positive self-concept. Seeing yourself in a positive way will help you feel good about yourself.
Family members, friends, and teachers reinforce,or support your self-concept through messages. Some of the messages from people around you are spoken or written. Others take the form of looks or gestures."Way to go!" is an example of a positive word message. You may think you did well on a school project. Having your Parent or teacher tell you that you did a good job reinforces your belief.Keep in mind that sending positive messages is a two-way street. When you support others, they are likely to support you, too.
