A study has found that a lifetime of regular exercise and activity can slow down the aging process (衰老过程). Researchers say that getting older should not necessarily mean becoming more weak or sick. Their research shows that a devotion to a life of movement and exercise may help us live not only longer, but also healthier.
For their study, the researchers looked at two groups. The first group was made up of 125 non-professional cyclists between the ages of 55 to 79. This group included 84 healthy men and 41 healthy women. We will call this group the “cyclists”.
Researchers then found 130 people to make up a second group. Within this group, 75 people were aged from 57 to 80. The other 55 were between the ages of 20 and 36. The people in this group were also healthy, but they did not exercise regularly. We will call this group the “non-exercisers”. Smokers, heavy drinkers of alcohol and people with other health issues were not included in the study.
Then, researchers gave both groups a series of tests. They tested their muscle mass (肌肉质量), muscular strength, percentage of body fat and the strength of their immune (免疫的) systems. Then the researchers compared the results of the two groups.
Results showed that the cyclists did not experience body changes usually regarded as a normal aging process. For example, they did not lose muscle mass or muscular strength. Also, their body fat did not increase with age.
The researchers also found something they had not expected. The study showed that the immune systems of the cyclists did not age either.
The researchers advise us all to find an exercise that we like in our lives.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) included on December 17, 2020 China's Tai Chi on the RepresentativeList of the Intangible(无形的)Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The decision was announced during the online meeting of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held from December 14 to19 inKingston, capital ofJamaica.
“Born in the mid-17th century in a small village named Chenjiagou located in Central China's Henan province, Tai Chi is not only a kind of traditional Wushu integrated with slow movements and deep breathing, but is also deeply rooted in many areas of Chinese culture, such as medicine and philosophy,”Zhu Xianghua says, who is the son of the famous Tai Chi master Zhu Tiancai.
Although it has spread to more than 150 countries and regions, attracting more than 100 million people to practice, the idea that Tai Chi is for the elderly has stopped many young people practicing the ancient Wushu. They think of it as a slow exercise, which is specially made and better suited for their grandparents. Instead, many young people are turning to the Indian practice of yoga(瑜伽)to relieve stress, which was placed on the UNESCO's
List in 2019.

In 2015, a man named Nigel Richards memorized 386, 000 words in the entireFrench Scrabble Dictionaryin just nine weeks. However, he does not speak French. Richards’ impressive feat is a useful example to show how artificial intelligence works — real AI. Both of Richard and AI take in massive amounts of data to achieve goals with unlimited memory and superman accuracy in a certain field.
The potential applications for AI are extremely exciting. Because AI canoutperformhumans at routine tasks — provided the task is in one field with a lot of data — it is technically capable of replacing hundreds of millions of white and blue collar jobs in the next 15 years or so.
But not every job will be replaced by AI. In fact, four types of jobs are not at risk at all. First, there are creative jobs. AI needs to be given a goal to optimize. It cannot invent, like scientists, novelists and artists can. Second, the complex, strategic jobs — executives, diplomats, economists — go well beyond the AI limitation of single-field and Big Data. Then there are the as-yet-unknown jobs that will be created by AI.
Are you worried that these three types of jobs won’t employ as many people as AI will replace? Not to worry, as the fourth type is much larger: jobs where emotions are needed, such as teachers, nannies and doctors. These jobs require compassion, trust and sympathy — which AI does not have. And even if AI tried to fake it, nobody would want a robot telling them they have cancer, or a robot to babysit their children.
So there will still be jobs in the age of AI. The key then must be retraining the workforce so people can do them. This must be the responsibility not just of the government, which can provide funds, but also of corporations and those who benefit most.
12. What is the main purpose of paragraph 1?
A. To introduce the topic.
B. To mention Nigel’s feat.
C. To stress the importance of good memory.
D. To suggest humans go beyond AI in memory.
13. Which of the following best explains “outperform” underlined in paragraph 2?
A. Be superior to
B. Be equal to
C. Be similar to
D. Be related to
14. Which of the following jobs is the most likely to be replaced?
A. The writer.
B. The shop assistant.
C. The babysitter.
D. The psychologist.
15. What does the text suggest people do about job replacement of AI?
A. Limit the application of AI to a certain degree.
B. Get more support from the government.
C. Apply for the donation from companies.
D. Upgrade themselves all the time.

The lumps after the allergy tests showed their terrible messages that I am allergic to cats, dogs and fur. I cried because I knew what this meant. Our pets would have to go.
Our family of five lived on the Naval Air Station in Key West, Florida. My mother found neighbors who were willing to take care of our sweet dog, Tramp. My sister gave her guinea pig to one of her friends at school. But I begged my parents to let us keep my beloved cat, Grungy.
We had adopted Grungy six years earlier in Turkey from the Cat Lady, a kind figure who rescued wild cats. Grungy was once lost and found, in Rome, when he somehow missed our return flight back to the States, and again when he finally arrived at the base in Rhode Island, and escaped from his cage. For days, he walked around the airfield and followed an airmen until my dad learned from the airman and brought him home.
After that adventure, Grungy faced a new challenge: Because of my allergies, he would have to be given away. My mother wrote an announcement on the local newspaper. “Wanted: Loving family for a unique cat. Serious inquiries only. ” She added our phone number and placed the ad. But I prayed that no one would call, but several people did. And our parents decided to meet a young couple who lived two islands away on Boca Chica Key. The
young man had no children, but the young man’s wife worked at home, so Grungy wouldn’t be lonely when he adjusted to his new life.
I stood silent the day that they arrived to see my cat. I didn’t want to like the soft-spoken man or his pretty, dark-haired wife. To our surprise, Grungy allowed them both to pick him up and hold him. Both of them stroked his soft head and promised to take good care of him. We were all sad to see Grungy go especially me. When I couldn’t control my tears, I ran to my room.
