关于高考的英文演讲
Ladies and gentlemen,
Today, I'd like to talk about the topic that millions of students and parents in China are concerned about - the National College Entrance Examination, also known as Gaokao. As we all know, Gaokao is considered as one of the most important exams in China, and its result can have a significant impact on a student’s future.
First and foremost, it's essential to understand the purpose of Gaokao. This exam was established in 1952 with the purpose of selecting the best candidates for limited higher education opportunities. Over the years, the exam has evolved with the changing needs of society. But, even today, it faces criticism that it puts too much pressure on students and leads to an educational system that prioritizes test scores over learning.
Next, it's important to discuss some of the different viewpoints surrounding Gaokao. Some people argue that Gaokao is an effective way to identify and select the most academically promising students for higher education. They argue that the exam provides fair and equal opportunities for all students regardless of their background and education. Other people argue that Gaokao forces students to give up their passion and creativity in favor of memorization and regurgitation
Moreover, one major issue with Gaokao is the immense pressure it puts on students. The weight of expectations from parents, peers, and teachers can make the exam a source of significant anxiety. Some students focus solely on studying for Gaokao and neglect developing other essential skills and character traits.
Finally, it's time to talk about some of the potential alternatives and reforms to Gaokao. Many people believe that it's time to explore a more comprehensive and holistic approach to university admissions. Some universities have already started experimenting with broader evaluation systems that take into account extracurricular activities, personal experiences, and character traits alongside academic performance.
In conclusion, Gaokao is a complex and controversial topic in China. It's essential to recognize its purpose while acknowledging its flaws and limitations. Ultimately, it’s crucial to keep an open mind and explore alternative options to create a brighter future for our students. Thank you.。
