Ice sculpting(冰雕) is a difficult process . First , ice must be carefully selected so that it is
suitable for sculpting . Its ideal material is pure , clean water with high clarity(清澈). It should also have the minimum(=least) number of air bubbles. Perfectly clear ice blocks weighing 140 kg and measuring 100 c m×50 cm×25 cm are available from the Clinebell Company in Colorado . Much larger clear blocks are produced in Europe and Canada or harvested from a frozen river in Sweden . These large ice blocks are used for large ice sculpting events and for building ice hotels.
Another difficulty in the process of ice sculpting is time control . The temperature of the environment affects how quickly the piece must be completed to avoid the effects of melting . If the sculpting does not take place in a cold environment , then the sculptor must work quickly to finish his piece . The tools used for sculpting also affect when the task can be finished . Some sculptures can be completed in as little as ten minutes if power tools are used .
Ice sculptors also use sharp chisels (凿子) that are specifically designed for cutting ice . The best ice chisels are made in Japan , a country that , along with China , has a long tradition of magnificent ice sculptures . Ice sculptures are used as decorations in some cuisines (烹饪) , especially in Asia . When holding a dinner party , some large restaurants or hotels will use an ice sculpture to decorate the table . For example , in a wedding banquet it is common to see a pair of ice-sculpted swans (天鹅) that represent the union of the new couple .

Teenagers need family love and support at a time when lots of other things in their lives are changing . You can keep family relationships with your child strong through ordinary , everyday activities .
Adolescence (青春期) can be a difficult time ---your child is going through rapid physical changes as well as emotional ups and downs . Young people aren’t sure where they fit , and they are still trying to work it out . Adolescence can also be a time when peer (同伴) influences and relationships can cause stress for teenagers and their families , and family support can be vital (=very important) to getting through these challenges.
During this time , your family can be a secure emotional base where your child feels loved and accepted , no matter what’s going on in the rest of her life . Your family can build and support
your child’s self-belief , confidence and optimism .When your family set rules , boundaries and standard behaviour, you give your child a sense of consistency (一致性) and predictability(可定的属性). And believe it or not , your life experiences and knowledge can be really useful to your child ---she just might not always want to know that .
Supportive and close family relationships can reduce risky teenage behaviour, such as alcohol and drug abuse(滥用), and problems such as depression . They can also increase your child’s feeling of being connected to school , and his desire to do well academically .
Strong family relationships can go a long way toward helping your teenager grow into a well-adjusted , considerate and caring adult .
Research suggests that just being around family is associated with fewer behaviour problems in teenagers. This could be as simple as being in the kitchen when your child’s in her room , so she knows she could come and talk to you if she wanted to . Teenagers benefit from knowing that support is available , even though they might not be using it .
68. The author intends to __________.
A. show us why your child needs you .
B. express us the good family relationship
C. tell us the family is very important to children
D. Parents and children should understand each other
69. Why does the author say that adolescence can be a difficult time to children ?
A. Because they spend a hard time in this period .
B. Because it is easy to form the bad habits at this time .
C. Because they have more problems during the period.
D. Because it is easy for them to be cheated during the time .
70. Which of the following statements is TRUE ? ks#5@u
A. That parents are in good touch can benefit children in school .
B. Support from the family can help children to show off outside .
C. Adolescence is a dangerous period for children to grow up .

71. According to the text , we can conclude _____ .

Human beings have spread to every continent , sometimes driving other animal species to extinction (灭绝) in the process . It has become the most widely spread species on the planet , occupying mountains and valleys , deserts and jungles , shorelines and islands , yet always finding some good means of living in these widely differing environments. The total weight of all living members of the species is far heavier than that of any other animal , and the human population is now growing so rapidly that it will double within the next thirty-five years .
What accounts for the success of our species ? The answer , in a word , is culture . We create culture , but culture in turn create us . We are consequently no longer the victims of the environment . We make our own social environment , inventing and sharing the rules and patterns
of behaviour that shape our lives, and we use our learned knowledge to make the natural environment more suitable to live in . Our shared culture is what makes social life possible . Without a culture transmitted (传承) from the past , each new generation would have to solve the most basic problems of human existence over again . It would have to think up a family system , to invent a language , to discover fire , to create the wheel , and so on …
Culture frees us from relying on the slow and accidental process of physical evolution (进化) by offering us a new , purposive , efficient means of adapting to changing conditions . If we waited for natural selection to enable us to live at the North Pole , to fly to the moon , or to live under the sea , we would wait forever. Unlike other animals, we can self-consciously adapt to our environments and can adapt environments to meet our own needs .
72. The writer’s purpose in the first paragraph is to show ______ .
A. how crowded our planet is
B. how successful human beings are
C. that human population is now growing rapidly
D. that other animal species have been very weak in the competition with man
73. According to the passage , human beings ______ .
A. are the victims of the environment
B. rely on other animal species for their success
C. make social environment and change natural environment
D. change social environment and make natural environment
74. It can be inferred from the passage that ___________ .
A. culture should rely on the process of physical evolution
B. we would have to wait forever to fly to the moon
C. we can never adapt environments to meet our own needs
D. family systems belong to culture
75. The best title for the passage would be “________________” .
A. Human Beings
B. Natural Selection
C. The Role of Culture
D. Social and Natural Environments
