II.Executive Summary
Business Philosophy: the interactivity of the trip and the connectivity amongst sites. It targets predominantly for the young, non-local (non-Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai area) tourists.
Our product within this project would be in the form of an application installed on any mobile electronic device. It serves as an aid for both guidance and entertainment for tourists when visiting Shengsi. The application would predominantly utilize augmented reality (AR). It borrows the model from Pokémon Go, places the user as the main character and organizes the whole trip into an adventurous manner.
This project targets two problems raised during the interview about “lack in interactivity” for most sites and local entertaining facilities. We have thus noticed that site-seeing dominance has a lower potential to attract lower aged-group tourists, particularly when it is not as entertaining. There is also this lack of organizational matter amongst most of the tourist sites. Therefore, our project aims to give an answer to both of the questions raised above, namely, to enhance both interactivities of sites and connectivity amongst sites.
Due to the limitations such as the limiting time crafting this project, absence of modelling trials due to a shortage in software technological aids as well as the absence of a second-round interview for feedbacks, this project report is solely demonstrating the theory of creation, as well as a brief sample planning partially covers Shengsi’s tourism.
This project also takes other considerations including the shifting pattern of tourists’ features. It details the increase in individual tourists in comparison with organized trips, outside Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai region tourists, as well as younger tourists due to the radiating effect from newly operated Shanghai Disneyland. Therefore, we infer that an increase in individual tourists would place a high demand in local guidance for site-seeing rather than randomly planning thus leaving a superficial tour. We also infer, as the youth ourselves, that booming younger tourists would naturally hold a sense of obsession in interactivity when visiting a place for leisure. We thirdly infer that the diverging development amongst islands within Shengsi is a plus to the local tourism in both economically avoiding competition and for tourists’ overall sense of feeling. However, this feature also causes Shengsi’s lack of integrity in the inter-island trip. This feature has thus spacious potential already and area for improvement when we apply our product.
This product under the present social context is expected to have a foreseeable future since its application of AR technology, NFC technology aiding interactions, possibly future VR technology in tourism from afar. It is universally acknowledged that modern telecommunication technology, hardware and software technology, as well as near-future Artificially Intelligence are growing at a rapid speed. Their functions though solely applying to local advertisement resemble just the tip of the whole iceberg. Their features, when applying as a platform for future design thinking uses, such as its interactivity between users and tangible sites, would be truly extending their potentials.
III.Products and Services
Our product is also augmented reality (AR) mobile game, which quite similar to a popular phone game” Pokémon Go”. It relies on GPS to locate, ca pture, battle, and train virtual creatures which are cartoon images modified from local plants or animals such as seagull, mussels, groupers, and cuckoo, etc, which appear as if they are in the player’s real-world location. In this way, people especially the young are spurred to pay full attention to the landscapes and will also try to travel as many places as possible.
As players move within their real-world surroundings, their avatars move within the game’s map. Different species reside in different areas, for example, they are likely to catch groupers in the crevices along the island.
Players must physically travel t o explore the game’s map so that they unconsciously travel around the island and learn about the local plants and animals. Also, for each island, they are assigned with the main task. Take Hua Niao island as an example. After they arrived on the island, they automatically receive a message from the Non-Player Character, who is a cartoon version of the local people such as fishermen, like it is known that some rare species are generally found near Hua Niao island. Come and try to get them!
To make them further explore the island, there are special missions assigned in some locations. In “huanglong” island, people who are interested in ship models can go to the Imitative Shipping Museum to finish tasks such as try to make a model with local people in the workshop. As long as they are finished and uploaded the photo to the
system, they are rewarded with superior Poke balls or coins they can use to purchase candies, that increase the combat power of species, lucky eggs, which double experience points gained for thirty minutes from the use or other appraisals. They can also finish a more tough task like Let’s do a time-traveling with Doctor who, try to imitate “cheng shou”, seller, helpers, “dou ke” (buyers), “Bean Counters” (bookkeeper) or “a da”( the owner). The players can not only have fun but also have a deeper understanding of the past and local culture. It is also possible to make souvenirs themselves. It is said that “yu shen jie” especially is made in Shengsi so that to further publicize it, tourists can also be assigned to do manual artworks. The assignment can be flexible and changeable to satisfy the different needs of each island. As these tasks are optional, travelers will not consider these tasks as a burden as they are less likely to force themselves to finish tasks that they are indifferent. Instead, they do every task mainly because of their interest.
The map is likely to change under any circumstances. Specifically, when evening comes, the mode will switch to the night version. Different species are shown on the island and some dangerous places are also banned in the case to have safety issues. The fluorescent sea can be also designed into the map, not only is it attractive and rare, but also does it represent “hua niao” island. Homepage and sp ecies should change frequently according to seasons or festivals like “kai bu jie” or “yu shen jie”
Moreover, different stakeholders can benefit from the application. For instance, Airbnb is increasingly commonplace in Shengsi. The host can also incorporate their service into the application such as there is the baking challenge happening at XXXX. Come and bake with others! They can also serve as prototypes of NPC. They can not only promote their goods and services but also have the opportunity to access people who
may be helpful to them such as photographs, singers or even cooks. The app can be a useful platform for them as well.
As we mentioned before, the task type is various, even trivia games can be included. As there are so many plants and animals in islands, players can be assigned multiple-choice questions to let them memorize and try to pay close heed on the surroundings instead of playing games in Airbnb.
Refining the Plan – Evaluations and Foreseeable Limitation
•Assumption:
o The previous inferences are predominately assumed since they are made based on the identities of “youth” rather than expertise and professional researchers
from relative disciplinaries. Therefore, there would be insufficient social
experiments, for example, statistical tests in probabilities, proving our
inferences are reliable.
o We assume without proper investigation that the youth has rather a greater interest in activities with more self-engagement rather than solely site-seeing.
Thus, we assume our product would have its application on the tourists’
pattern.
o We temporarily neglect potential legal matters in conflict with the existed Pokémon Go and all relative stakeholders holding the patent. •Limitations:
o There is this time limitation of this activity, detailed in the absence of modeling, conducting trials, as well as second-round feedback for our product.
There is also the absence of actually conducting this product at the
technological level before the submission of this report.
o We are lack at least one expert in the field of computer science or other relative areas of study telling us the practicality of this product in the level of
hardware and software design.
o We are lack at least one expert in the field of visual art or other relative areas of study designing a sample visual figure for presentation.
o We would expect a minor but also significant technological upgrade for most sites within the island, in detail with the GPS, NFC receivers, etc. in
systematically interacting with users holding mobile devices. We are unable to give an estimation for the entire upgrade at this stage, though relatively minor but could be costly. There could also be a potential legal manner when any upgrade encounters with any cultural artefact, which is protected by law in P.
R. China from any constructional change.
o We have not yet considered for its economic sustainability at this stage of the project report, namely, whether this product is economically profitable.。
