Paul: I'd like to book a room, please.
Receptionist: Certainly. When would you like to come?
Paul: How much is it per night?
Receptionist: It's fifty-five euros per night. That includes
breakfast.

Paul: That's fine. Receptionist: Could I have your name and a contact phone number, please? Paul: That's Paul Hanebeck, that's H-A-N-E-B-E-C-K. And my phone number is 0131 440 3768. Receptionist: Let me see if I got that. One double room from October 17th for four nights, Mr Hanebeck. Is that correct? Paul: Yes, it is. Thank you. Receptionist: Thank you. Goodbye. Paul: Goodbye.

Hi, Jennie. Max here. You are looking for something that doesn't exist. If a place has even a small attraction, it will be full of tourists during the national holiday. Tourist sights in Beijing will be full, as well as shopping centers, so my advice is to just stay at home or book a hotel and relax. (Commune at the Great Wall is great but expensive. A cheaper option is the Schoolhouse at Mutianyu). Another idea is to find a Chinese friend who is going back home and see if you can go with him. It can often be an interesting trip.
But it depends upon the holiday experience. A nice relaxing trip, where everything goes right, the plane is not delayed, you get through the airport quickly, the local people are friendly, the weather is good, all that makes for a wonderful holiday.

But long queues at airports, full planes that take off at 5a.m. and are full of parents with screaming kids, unfriendly local people with bad attitudes, bad weather, bad food, a bad hotel, upset stomach where you have to go to see a doctor who doesn't speak your language--all that makes for a terrible holiday. I don't mind going back to work when I get home, but always like a couple of days at home first to settle down once again and to feel comfortable.
