In the universe, as we know, there is the sun, the moon, the earth and a good many stars. Through our geography lessons, we know the earth goes round the sun, and the moon goes round the earth. We have day and night because the earth keeps turning all the time. When our part of the earth turns to the sun, it is day. When our part of the earth turns away from the sun, it is night.

The leaders (领导人)of 13 countries had a big meeting in St Petersburg, Russia from November 21 to 24, 2010.The meeting was about tigers. They talked about the ways to protect the animals in their countries. They agreed to spend more money protecting tigers and they wanted to double the number of tigers in the world before 2022.
Tiger is one of the world's most endangered animals. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) says, there are only about 100,000 wild tigers now. And the number is becoming smaller and smaller. 'If nothing happens, tigers will face disasters,' said WWF spokeswoman Marie von Zeipel.
Nine types of tigers lived 100 years ago, but now at least three of them have died out. ‘If people leave tigers alone and don’t kill them, then the number of tigers will double in 10 years,’ said Jean-Christoph Vie, a French tiger expert (专家).
China is one of the 13 countries where tigers live. There are about 50 wild tigers in China now. They are the Bengal tigers in Tibet, Indochinese tigers in China's southwest, and Siberian tigers in the northeast. The South China tigers lived in southeast China many years ago but disappeared in the 1970s. Many experts think they have already died out.

Years ago, if a teenager(青少年) had some problems in his life, he might write them in his diary. Now a teenager with the same problems might get on the Internet and write in his blog (博客). In many ways, a diary and a blog are almost the same. So, what makes a blog different from a diary?
The biggest difference is that a blog is much more public(公开的) than a diary. Usually, a teenager likes hiding his diary book and treats it as one full of secrets. Both diaries and blogs tell what happened to the writer that day.
A blog has both good and bad points. The biggest problem is that anyone can read what you write in your blog. If you are not pleased with a friend during school and write something bad about him or her on the Internet, that friend may read your blog and get angry. So we have to be careful of what we write.
A blog has good points, of course. People choose to write in blogs: they know that their friends will read what they write. If you are feeling sad one day and write in your diary, no one will know about it. If you write the same words in your blog, your friends may quickly write back to comfort(安慰) you or give their help. Blogs help people stay in close contact(联系) and let them know what their friends are doing.
(1)In the past, teenagers wrote life problems ________. But now they like writing problems ________.
(2)In many ways, a diary and a blog are ________. Both of them tell ________.
(3)A blog has both ________ points. ________ can read what you write in your blog.
(4)If you write ________ about your friend in your blog, he may ________ after reading it.(5)Where will you choose to write down your problems, in a blog or in a diary? Why?

As a new immigrant (移民) in Australia, I sometimes find it hard to get into the local culture. After reading the book Unpolished Gem(《未经雕琢的宝石》)by Australian writer Alice Pung, I found I am not alone. Pung had the same story as me.
The story is set in Melbourne. Pung's parents are from Cambodia. They have lived in Australia for years. But Pung still has difficulties understanding both cultures.
One is the white Australian culture she lives in. The other is her family's traditional Asian values (价值观). For example, her parents tell her, "You are going to be a lawyer and marry a doctor". This makes Pung want to run away from her life. However, as she argues with her white boyfriend, she knows that traditional Asian values are part of her life. In the end, she happily accepts her own cultural background (背景).
Since Pung lived in her home country for 18 years, it wasn't easy for her to understand Australian culture. I have found that I feel the same way sometimes. In Asian culture, we put a lot of importance on our studies and getting into a good college. But it seems like Western kids are more carefree.
I liked this book because it really shows what it's like to live as an immigrant. I highly recommend (推荐) it to anyone who wants to know what it's like to be an immigrant.

Ted, my little brother, is in Grade One. Last Friday he came back from school with a letter. The letter was from his teacher. “I got a red flower today. Could you please sign this note?” he said to mum. The note showed that he had been talking in class.
Ted hardly gets top scores in his school work. The best he gets is “OK”, but he often gets “You can do better than this.” Mum knows what it means. She tells me “You can do better than this”

In the USA, teachers never say anything too bad about their students, even if the students are making trouble in class or not working hard enough. The worst they might say is “Please be nicer tomorrow”. Many parents are satisfied with a B-grade for each subject.

I sometimes felt that my second-grade cousin spend more time on homework than I did when I was 6th grade in the US! Yet his parents and teachers didn't think he worked hard enough.
