◆ Purpose
Know BIOS and flash BIOS define, function; learn how to flash BIOS; study detailed BIOS setup.
◆ Scope
For all department common user to set and flash BIOS, especially for TPE-ME to flash BIOS for sample computer.

◆ Flash BIOS function:
Flash BIOS
Flash BIOS, also named update BIOS, it is to write new version BIOS for improve PC performance, it has below main function: 1). Reduce existent BUG (Design fault). 2). Enhance the support for new device, and improve the PC stability and compatibility. So it’s more behalf to PC’s performance, stability, compatibility if you often update motherboard BIOS.

◆ Responsibility
1). Sustaining EPM(ES-PSC-MRC): provide new version BIOS file and test requirement. 2). SME: Assemble sample computer, flash BIOS, then send sample to Validation Team for test. 3). Validation Team: In charge of doing related test.

Chapter 1.
◆ BIOS brief introduce:
BIOS Introduce
BIOS is Basic Input Output System, also named ROM-BIOS, because it is stored in a ROM (Read-Only Memory) of computer motherboard. When you turn on a computer, BIOS is the first running program.
◆ Note:
The modified BIOS data will be saved into a CMOS RAM which lived by a battery, so the BIOS data will not be lost after computer power off. Generally, we needn’t modify BIOS data when computer can run normally. When the battery on motherboard is used up or other factors caused CMOS data lost, we have to replace new battery and reset BIOS setup.
