Unit 2 Last Weekend
Grade Level: 6th grade

Time Required: 45 minutes
Objective:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to talk about their weekend activities using the past simple tense in English.
Materials Needed:
Whiteboard and markers
Pictures or flashcards of different weekend activities (optional)
Introduction (5 minutes):
Greet the students and ask them how they are doing.
Review vocabulary related to weekend activities (e.g. go shopping, watch a movie, play soccer, visit grandparents).
Ask the students if they know how to talk about their weekend activities in English.
Presentation (20 minutes):
Write past simple sentences on the board (e.g. "I went shopping.", "He watched a movie.", "She played soccer.", "They visited their grandparents.").
Explain that the past simple tense is used to talk about things that happened in the past and are now finished.
Model how to talk about weekend activities using the past simple tense (e.g. "What did you do last weekend?" "I went shopping.").
Use pictures or flashcards of different weekend activities to help the students practice talking about their weekend activities using the past simple tense.
Have the students practice talking about their weekend activities using the past simple tense with a partner.
Practice (15 minutes):
Write some sentences about weekend activities on the board (e.g. "She watched a movie on Saturday.", "He played soccer with his friends.", "They visited their grandparents on Sunday."). Have the students practice using time expressions (e.g. on Saturday, on Sunday) to talk about when weekend activities happened.
Ask the students to create their own sentences about weekend activities using time expressions and write them on the board.
Have the students practice talking about their weekend activities using time expressions with a partner.
Assessment (5 minutes):
Ask a few students to talk about their weekend activities using the past simple tense correctly. Assess the students' ability to use the past simple tense appropriately.
Closure (5 minutes):
Review the past simple tense and vocabulary related to weekend activities with the students. Encourage the students to practice talking about their weekend activities in English.
Extension activity:
Have the students work in pairs or small groups to create a weekend activity timeline. They can draw pictures or use photos to represent different weekend activities. They can use the timeline to practice talking about their weekend activities using the past simple tense in English.
Exercise:
Write a sentence using the past simple tense to describe something you did last weekend. Example: "I went to the park with my friends."
Write a sentence using a time expression to describe when you did something last weekend. Example: "I went to the park with my friends on Saturday afternoon."
Homework:
Write a paragraph in English about your last weekend using the past simple tense and time expressions.
Practice saying your paragraph out loud.。
