General
The VDI-40 is designed by ORAD for use with ORAD various applications.
VDI-40 inserts data into the video signal, enabling applications that use this signal,
to extract data out of it.
It supports up to 4 channels of HD/SD signals with or without embedded audio.

Control panel
The control panel allows setting the mode of work and getting the status of the VDI.

There control panel includes 6 buttons:
• 4 navigation buttons (up, down, left, right)
•× - operates as “Exit” to a higher level of menu hierarchy if a menu
item is selected or as “Cancel” if an option item is selected.
•√ - operates as “Enter” to a lower level of menu hierarchy if a menu
item is selected or 'OK' if an option item is selected.
Push the √button to insert to the menu.
At each of the menu items, the available buttons will appear at the top-
right corner of the display.

Standard Selects one of the available video standard
(out of SD or HD group of standards)
Genlock Defines type of Reference
(Analog/Digital)
Camera ID Defines ID to the video channels
TimeCode Defines the channels using the TimeCode
and position of the data in the signal.
Status Shows the status of the reference and
channels.
1.Standard
To select Video standard, use the navigation buttons until needed standard
appears on the display. Then push the √button.

Note: if standard is set to NTSC Narrow, both inputs and outputs are to be in this in this format.
On the other hand, if standard is set to NTSC wide, then both NTSC
narrow and wide will be valid at input. The output will be NTSC wide.
2.Genlock
To select Genlock source, use the navigation buttons until needed source
(Digital or Analog) appears on the display. Then push the √button.
Note:Video input of channel 1 is also used as digital reference source.
3.Camera ID
Use the navigation buttons until needed Input number appears on the
display.
Push the √button.
When “Enable” appears on display, use the navigation buttons to select
“Yes” or “No”. Then, push the √button again.
When “ID value” appears on display, push the √button.
Choose the ID for the specific channel using the navigation buttons.
Then push the √button.
Note:
•The available IDs are between 0 to15.
•IDs are to be unique, i.e. different channels can not share the same ID.
Repeat the above procedure for all channels to be used.

4.TimeCode
Use the navigation buttons to select a channel to be TimeCode enabled or to
select “VITC Line” for defining the line number in which the data will be
inserted to.
The line can be a default one (chosen according to the video standard) or
can be changed manually to be a specific line.
The line number chosen will be accompanied with indication to position of
the line: “VBI” - the range of the blanking, or “ACT” – the range of the
active video.
In case of HD interlaced format, additional number in brackets will appear
on display, presenting the line number within the second field of a frame.
5.Status
Use the navigation buttons to choose the input to get status about: one of the
4 video input channels or the reference input.
Each parameter is accompanied with either ‘+’ or ‘-‘ to indicate its status:
