第二部分阅读理解(满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
21.(6分)Mi Teleferico, Bolivia
Crossing the Bolivian capital of La Paz, the Teleferico is both the highest and longest city cable-car system
on the planet. Built to relieve the city’s extreme road traffic, the three lines of this "subway in the sky" spirit
the city’s 2.3 million citizens. At an altitude of 3,700 metres, you' ll feel the thrill of flying as you’re
smoothly carried over entire neighborhoods and business districts—all for a ticket price that' s less than a dollar.
Everest Flights, Nepal
It is no easy work to climb the Everest, a mountain second to none at an altitude of 8 ,848 metres. Most of us know that we'll never move along the Hillary Step and overcome this mountain. Fortunately, a number of
local airlines operating out of Kathmandu’s small domestic airport offer a glimpse of this glory for about a hundred dollars. In a few hours, you'll get into the heart of the Himalayas, getting close enough to snap a few
fantastic photos from your window seat before circling back. No oxygen tank required !
Rocky Mountaineer, Canada
With select routes that lead through Banff and Jasper national parks as well as Lake Louise,
Rocky Mountaineer provides a best opportunity to spot the wildlife of western Canada, including elk, bighorn sheep, and possibly even bears of the black, brown, and grayish variety. Rocky Mountaineer' s multi-day journeys include breakfasts and lunches prepared by world-class chefs, B.C.wines, and an invitation to sit back, relax, and
let the Rockies come to you.
Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, South Africa
Few places in the world have appeal like Table Mountain, the flat-topped monolith( 独石) that serves as

22.(8分)When you search Google or use Amazon, you might assume the results you see are the same as those viewed by your friends, family and other Internet users. But you’d be wrong. Websites and social networks track your location and search history and make assumptions about your age, race, sex and political views. They then show ads they believe to be the most relevant, in order to maximize clicks, but personalize which results you see by eliminating what they think is irrelevant.
This is sold to the public as positive, making each web session relevant and interesting, yet it is leading researchers to fear this could widen divides between the North and South, rich and poor, and young and old. For example, in terms of wealth, if users are only ever shown particular products and job advertisements based on how much they earn or where they live, these users will never be given the opportunities to increase their wealth, or how much they spend on items.
Princeton University has created bots(自动程序), each with their own fake profiles. These bots have different fake ages and sexes, earn different levels of money, are virtually(虚拟地) based in various locations around the world and have different interests. By using these bots to scan and research the web, the researchers hope to create a picture of not only what each of them sees, but also what sites they are missing out on.
According to lead researcher, Arvind Narayanan, “Our goal is a web privacy census(普查)which will be a comprehensive map of who are collecting what information, what they are inferring from it, and who they are sharing it with. It is an important step in our final goal of figuring out how users are treated based on that information.”
Personalization also has its benefits. Shopping sites such as Amazon and eBay can scan a user’s search and purchase history to offer suggestions. This can help find similar, cheaper items or items that are more suited to their needs at a glance. It’s also possible to disable personalized ads and results. Google’s search engine lets you switch off
personalization, for example.
Researchers from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona and Yahoo felt the issue was so potentially damaging, and they have also created a way to “burst the filter(过滤) bubble”. They believe that just because people have opposing views on certain topics it doesn’t mean they won’t share interests with others.
1、The underlined word “eliminating” in Paragraph 1 probably means “_______”.
A.decorating B.removing
C.personalizing D.protecting
2、Princeton University created bots to ______.
A.explain why different websites are personalized
B.offer users some advice on how to protect privacy
C.assess how personalization is affecting Internet users

3、Which of the following websites have done something to cut off personalization?
A.Google and Yahoo. B.eBay and Google.
C.Amazon and eBay. D.Amazon and Yahoo.
4、What is this passage mainly about?
A.Different websites are doing something to offer quality service.
B.Personalized ads and search results could be creating different web pages.
C.Personalization of different sites will lead to users’ privacy being violated.
D.Personalization of shopping sites makes online shopping more convenient.

24.(8分)The Maltese Islands are rich in Neolithic (新石器时代的) sites. Ggantija in Gozo, Tarxien, and the Hagar Qim/Mnajdra Complex here on Ma lta’s south coast are perhaps the most well-known. These piles of stones are some of
the earliest known manmade structures in the world. They are showing their age a bit but what would you expect for buildings that are five and a half thousand years old. My house was built in the year 2000 and is already in bad condition round the edges. These temples are older than the pyramids!
In my opinion the temples are best seen after the visitors have left. Come with me for a late afternoon walk down the hill past Hagar Qim towards the Mnajdra Complex. There are chain link fences around the temples now but we can ignore those and try to image why Maltas earliest people went to the trouble of building these structures on this windy and poor hillside.
Of course the temples would have looked rather different when they were constructed. They may have been decorated with pigments and possibly even roofed with animal skins or other materials. Who knows? We do know that they were changed and added to over a 1,000 - year period or so.
Getting to Mnajdra and Hagar Qim is easiest if you have a car. Or if you don’t mind a hike, you could get a bus to Qrendi(3 km away) or Zurrieq (5 km away) and walk from there. Warning: although the distances are not too great, walking several kilometers in the Maltese sun can be very hard and possibly dangerous. Take water and sunscreen.
1、What makes the writer wonder about the temples?
A.Their history. B.Their appearance.
C.How they were built. D.When they were built.
2、What are we aware of about the construction of the temples?
A.They have been transformed. B.They look the same as before.
C.They were carefully designed. D.They are not what they used to be.
3、How can we admire the sites getting least sunburn?
A.By hiking there. B.By riding a car.
C.By taking water. D.By taking a bus.
4、Where can we possibly find this article?
A.In a political speech. B.In a historical fiction.
C.Ina travel magazine. D.In a geography text book.
25.(10分)Attention from strangers is nothing new to me. Questions about my height is the center of almost every public interaction. My friends say my height !s just a physical quality and not a personality aspect. However, when I reflect on my life, I realize that, my height has shaped my character in many ways and has helped to make me who I am.
I learned how to be kind. When I was younger, some parents in my neighborhood regarded me kind of dangerous because I was so much larger than other children my age. I had to be extra welcoming and gentle simply to play with other children. Of course. now my coaches wish I weren’t quite so kind on the basketball court.
I learned the quality of not being too proud about myself. At 7 feet tall, everyone expects me to be an amazing basketball player. They come expecting to see Dirk Nowitzki, and instead they might see a performance more like Will Ferrell(successfully starred a professional basketball player). I have learned to be modest and to work even harder than my fellows to meet their (and my) expectations.
I developed a sense of lightheartedness. When people playfully make fun of my height, 1laugh at myself too. On my first day of high school, a girl dropped her books in a busy hallway. I got down to her level and gathered some of her notebooks. As we both stood up, her eyes widened as I kept rising over her. Astonished, she dropped her books again. Embarrassed, we both laughed and picked up the books a second time.
All of these lessons have defined me. Looking back, I realize that through years of such experiences, I have become a confident, expressive person. Being a 7-footer is both a blessing and a curse, but in the end, accepting who you are is the first step to happiness.
1、Why does the author often draw attention from strangers?
A.He is interested in public interaction.
B.He has a unique personality.
C.He is physically strong.
D.He is extremely tall.
2、When he was young, the author intended to be more friendly just to .
A.gain extra favor
B.play with other children
C.prove his kindness
D.please his coach
3、It can be inferred from Para. 3 that .
A.Dirk Nowitzki was an awful basketball player
B.the author seldom disappointed his basketball fans
C.the author expected to make something better of himself
D.Will Ferrell was better at playing basketball than Dirk Nowitzki
4、What does the text mainly talk about?
A.The height has shaped the author’s personality and life.
B.The height has brought the author a lot of trouble.
C.Some funny experiences the author ever had
D.Being tall benefits the author in many ways

第二节书面表达(满分25分)
29、Dear Wang Peng,
I'm glad to receive your e-mail. Thank you for your care. Now let me tell you something about me.
All my classmates are very friendly, so I get along very well with them. If I have any problem in my life, they will help me. Of course, I also help others if necessary.
We study maths, English, physics and many other subjects. Most subjects are much more difficult. I think the most difficult subject is maths. Sometimes, I can't understand what the teacher says. So I have to ask my teacher and classmates for help after class. With their help, I am making progress. Don't worry about me. I'll work hard.
Yours,
Li Hua。
