A people thought to be dead for 500 years hope to prove they're still very much alive,
thanks to the 2010 population count. It counts everyone in the Americas, including places like Puerto Rico. Thousands of Puerto Ricans are rediscovering their origins and plan to ensure that the US government knows about them.
At the Texas State Capital Building in Austin, members of the Taino tribe gathered to raise awareness about the 2010 US census. Dr. Ana María Tekina-eirú Maynard led the group in song. She's the tribe's leader, who directs and teaches ceremonial dances to Tainos in the United States.
She explains that the Tainos greeted Christopher Columbus when he landed in the New World in 1492, but the Spanish explorers who followed him killed the tribe in large numbers.
Some Tainos managed to survive by fleeing to the mountains. But in the 1800s, Spain stopped counting native people in the census of its colonies.
Today, most history books say the Tainos were wiped out 50 years after the Spanish explorers arrived. After hundreds of years of mainstream thought that taught them the Tainos were dead, many Puerto Ricans forgot about their native ancestors.
Tainos see the 2010 US population statistics as their chance to finally prove the history books are wrong. "We are survivors," she says. "We are part of the people who went into the mountains to survive when the Spanish were killing our people."
16.What change will the 2010 population statistics probably bring about to Puerto Ricans?

D) By looking for the native ancestors.

D) The Tainos were wiped out by Christopher Columbus.

The romantic adventure story comes with a CD of Chopin favorites performed by the author, to be played at specific points in the book.

It's college graduation season in the United States. Even in today's weak economy, students from famous Ivy League universities like Harvard have an extra (36)advantage on the road to financial success. However, not everyone in Harvard College's Class of 2010 is (37)expecting for a profitable career. The director of Harvard's Office of Career Services is (38)matching her students with the right employers and career opportunities, often in the fields of education, international development and public service.
Graduating senior Wes Howe (39)intended to become a mainstream journalist, but he became (40)passionate about social justice while working as a reporter during summer break. Howe wrote a news article about a man who spent his savings on a house that turned out to be a failure. The circumstances pointed to criminal (41)fraud by the seller, but the man has no way to get his money back. Howe was angry, but felt that, as a newspaper reporter, there was little he could do about it. "There is a point where (42)exposing injustice wasn't enough," Howe says, "and actually working either toward changing either the law or bringing this to the attention of law enforcement (实施) was something that was interesting to me."
Statistics from Harvard's Office of Career Services do not show a (43)trend among students away from profitable careers in the (44)private sectors and toward public service. However, one thing is clear: many of today's best and brightest are also (45)committed to ensuring the well being of America's communities tomorrow.

A Supplements may not be the topic of the media as they once were, but the importance of vitamins and minerals and special supplements to consumers' health and wellness should not be overlooked nor their role reduced. Because of increasing consumer health consciousness (due in no small part to an aging population), the rise of "self-care" and "self-treatment," media attention and product rapid growth, the supplement category continues to change and evolve and remains complex.
B Even the most advanced wellness consumers, who might expect to avoid any and all elements of the modern medical establishment, are still buying one thing that symbolizes medicine to most of us: pills. Past Hartman Group research has shown that consumers' movement from surface to core along the wellness increases their likelihood of using dietary supplements. Some of the factors that get people started may include nutritional (营养的) needs, health conditions and aging. The lack of knowledge people have about supplements initially prevents some consumers from buying supplements. Additional supplements include price and the perceived lack of scientific proof of the function of these products.
C Consumers continue to purchase and use nutritional supplements, but with less intensity and exploratory nature than what we saw in 2000. Today, mid-level and core consumers appear to have identified key supplements that they use with some regulations (ranging from three times per week to daily), which have decreased their exploratory shopping for new supplements. We also find new interest in key supplements such as green tea, probiotics (益生菌) and omegas. Consumers have dramatically increased the number of phrases and behaviors that define "wellness" to them from 2000 to 2005. Particularly notable one is "taking supplements," which is now seen as the path of wellness by 43% of consumers, nearly double the number in 2000 (23%).
D The following language map illustrates the most prevailing ways in which consumers think and talk about health and wellness. The map progresses from bottom to top, with the bottom representing
consumers who are less involved in health and wellness (surface wellness consumers) and the top representing those who are most involved in health and wellness (core wellness consumers). This map depicts several interesting shifts and changes from 2000. We find that wellness consumers still begin the journey with the desire to eat well, but with more intention towards living a healthier lifestyle.
E The prevailing themes of the language being used from surface to core are represented by the black areas. The "bubbles" represent secondary themes that run throughout the language analysis and support the primary themes. Supporting quotes, thoughts, methods, activities, examples, etc. to what the primary themes mean to consumers are the white areas. At the bottom, surface wellness consumers have little or no brand recognition of supplements and knowledge is very limited. Moving up the ladder, brand awareness and knowledge increases among mid-level wellness consumers, but only moderately. At the top, brand awareness and supplement knowledge is at its summit among core wellness consumers.
F In general, except for the use of vitamins and minerals on an occasional basis, surface wellness consumers have a much lower involvement with products outside of the traditional food groups. As one moves towards the core, or top on the language map, the importance of special supplements to consumers increases more, relative to the other supplement categories, than the frequency in which consumers use the products. In practical terms this means that consumers use of special supplements lags behind vitamins and minerals, and special supplements.
G Most American consumers address general health concerns (e.g., staying in shape, eating well, eating balanced meals, etc.) with daily, lifestyle routines and practices rather than targeted, acute responses (e.g., taking medication). At this level, most Americans use a vague "watching behavior" (e.g., "I watch my sugar intake") or, if they are more evolved wellness consumers, they add lots of fresh foods into their diet to address current and long-term general health. What they tend not to use is a specific plan of action requiring health products that target a specific health condition.
