Dear Alan,
Guess what? I have a chance to choose my new place to live in! I’m excited and a little nervous. Could you please give me some help?
I’m not sure whether I should live in a house or in an apartment. On the one hand, a house will be too big for just one person, so maybe I should rent an apartment. On the other hand, if I rent a house, I should find someone else to share with me. The only problem is that a house full of people might be too noisy for me. I prefer to have my own space. The city has some nice apartments, but they are also too expensive. However, if I could find a two-bedroom apartment and get a roommate, that would make it more affordable. I just need to search for a roommate who is neat and quiet. You know I can’t live with someone who is loud and messy. I don’t have a car, so I also n eed to think carefully about the location. I probably need to look for somewhere near a bus stop or an underground station. That way I will have more time to study and spend less time traveling.
I’m looking forward to your reply.
Love,
Victor

In northern Scotland there is a long, deep lake called Loch Ness. More than 200 meters deep, it is the largest lake in the UK. People say a big monster(怪兽)lives in its dark, cold waters. It weighs more than 1,000 kilos and is at least ten meters long. Some people say it has a heard like a horse. Others say it looks like a snake. The Loch Ness Monster is a famous legend(传说). The first story about a monster in Loch Ness was told over 500 years ago, but the legend of the monster spread widely only in the twenties century. In 1933, a husband and wife reported that they saw a big monster in Loch Ness. Several people have taken photos, but at least one of them was a hoax(骗局). During the 1960s, a team was formed to look for the monster. They took many photos and made movies, but they were never able to find a monster.
There is no real fact that a monster lives in Loch Ness, but there is also no fact that one doesn’t live. One thing is true about Loch Ness: there are a lot of tourists there.

Teachers at Frankfurt International School were asked what advice they would like to give to the students about learning English. Here are their answers.
Ask your teachers for help: This is the most common piece of advice. If you don’t understand something, ask the teacher.
A good time to do this is when the students are working alone or in groups. Most teachers will be happy to help you after class, at break or lunch. But you must ask!
Help your teacher: If the teacher asks you a question and you make no answer, then the teacher won’t know how to help you. You should learn and use the following replies instead of saying nothing:
◆I didn’t hear the question.
◆I don’t understand the question.
◆I don’t know the answer.
Bring your dictionary to class: Your teacher will usually try to explain new words in English, but sometimes it will be quicker for you to look up their meanings in your dictionary.
Pay attention: Your teachers know how hard it is to understand what they are saying, but they would like you to keep listening. Wait until they have stopped talking before asking your
friend to explain in his/ her language.
