For some experienced Chinese travelers who have visited many destinations at home and abroad, their focus has changed toward exploring the less traveled domestic road and sharing their stories online.
Tuotuo and Susu are known for their first-person video blogs about less visited destinations in China. The couple’s short videos attract over 1.66 million followers on Sina Weibo, many of whom are youngsters with an urge to travel.
The couple has traveled to quaint villages where tourists seldom visit. For example, they visited Laozhai village in Lingshan county, Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region (自治区). The ancient Yao ethnic group village only has about 200 residents (居民) in 48 households.
During their travels, Tuotuo and Susu dine and rub shoulders with the locals and enjoy rural life. “These travels allow us to meet many interesting Chinese people and experience their unique lifestyles,” said 33-year-old Tuotuo.
However, the couple’s travels aren’t always without challenges. For example, when they visited a cattle-farming family in Yangdong village, Liping county, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong autonomous region in Guizhou, they had to drive on a winding road and a bumpy mud path, but the wonderful view of fields proved to be worthwhile.“It’s like a Land of Peach Blossom in modern society. Their material life may not be as good as those in big cities, but they lead a life of ease and comfort,” Tuotuo said.“Rather than common scenic areas, frequent visitors prefer in-depth travel and are interested in the local lifestyles and local people. For them, tourism has become a kind
of lifestyle, and lifestyle has also become an essential part of tourism,” said Liu Simin, vice president of tourism at the Beijing-based Chinese Society for Future Studies. 24. Where can we probably learn about Tuotuo’s traveling video blogs?

A.Old-fashioned and unusual.B.Newly-built and wonderful.
C.Well-known and modern.D.Long-standing and wealthy.
26. What can be learned about Tuotuo and Susu from the text?
A.They will probably live in the country.
B.They hate good material life in big cities.
C.They are deeply attracted by local lifestyles.
D.They are more interested in traveling abroad.
27. What is the main idea of paragraph 5?
A.The couple’s travels are always challenging.
B.The scenery in the country is quite impressive.
C.The conditions in Yangdong village are very poor.
D.Difficulties on the way won’t discourage the couple.
After waking up, you may feel annoyed that you cannot recall the dreams you had last night. Artificial intelligence (AI) may be able to help.
Previously, there have been AI models that can turn text into images. They can do
this by learning from a large amount of data from both tests and images. This time, researchers from Osaka University in Japan have trained an AI system called Stable Diffusion to recreate images based on people’s brain scans, reported Science magazine.
The researchers used an online data set provided by the University of Minnesota, US, which consisted of brain scans from four participants as they each viewed a set of 10,000 photos. The scans were recorded by functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).
The AI then learned about the brain activities by analyzing changes in blood flow shown by the fMRI data — when a part of the brain is activated (激活), more blood will flow to it. It then matched the brain activities with the photos. Through this method, AI learned how human brains would react when seeing different photos. Finally, the researchers tested the AI on additional brain scans from the same participants when they viewed photos of a toy bear, airplane, clock and train. If the person looked at an airplane, for example, the AI would use the brain scan data to create an image of a very blurry (模糊的) airplane. Then, it would turn on the previous “text-to-image” model and improve the quality of the image by feeding itself the keyword “airplane”. The final images were “convincing” with about 80 percent of accuracy (精确), according to the researchers.
The new study created a novel approach that includes texts and images to “decipher (破译) the brain”, Ariel Goldstein from Princeton University, US, told Science magazine. In the future, scientists hope that the technology can be used to record imagined thoughts and dreams or allow people to understand how differently other animals understand reality.
28. What do we know about Stable Diffusion? A.It can help train people’s minds.B.It can fully present people’s dreams.
C.It was created to draw people’s brains.
D.It can produce pictures from people’s
thoughts.
29. How did the AI system learn about human brain activity?
A.By analyzing activities of human thoughts.B.By studying patterns of blood flow in the brain.
C.By recording brain scans from four participants.D.By examining 10,000 photos about human brains.
30. How did the AI system improve the quality of the final images?
A.By employing a “text-to-image”
model.
B.By adjusting various brain scan data.
C.By combining additional brain scans.D.By inputting text from human observers.
31. What is the potential use of this technology according to scientists?
A.To improve text-to-image models.B.To create more accurate brain scans. C.To learn how animals view the world.D.To help people interpret their dreams.
Due to social events in recent years, the relationship between social media and teenagers mental health has been under heated discussion.
On Sept 30 a British court decided that content on social media platforms contributed to the depression of 14-year-old Molly Russell. Russell interacted with 2,100 posts related lo pessimistic, self-harm in the six months, leading up to her depression, reported the Observer website.
The correlation has also been proved by science. A study in 2019 showed that the frequent use of social media by teenagers can lead to a decrease in their mental health. So, how can we make sure that teenagers won’t get hurt while using social media? Chan, 18, from the University of Macao shared her experience. Chan said that she
once came across short videos romanticizing mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety. She immediately reported them to the platform.
But she said that the users’ power to regulate videos is still limited. “It is ultimately the responsibility of the social media platforms to filter out content that is potentially harmful.” She also noticed that the age of social media users has become increasingly younger. Society should pay attention to this, she said. “Since it’s not possible to cut off access to social media for younger users, why not introduce a ‘supervision mode’with which parents can regulate the content to be viewed by teenagers beforehand?”she said.
Wu Chengyu, 18, studies at Tianjin Experimental High School. He said that several years ago he came across a game that lures teenagers to self-abuse and depression. He quickly chose to ignore it so he wouldn’t be influenced. This is the same way he reacts when exposed to negative content on social media.
In Wu’s opinion, teenagers today should improve their social media literacy (素养), telling real from fake and good from bad. “Also, everyone can be a content creator on social media.” he said, “We should all strengthen our awareness of ethics”.
32. What led to Russell’s depression according to a British court?
A.Her interaction with others online.
B.Negative information on social media platforms.
C.Short videos she watched on the Internet.
D.Her addiction to online posts.
33. Which of the following statements does Chan probably agree with?
A.The number of younger Social media users should be limited.
B.Parents should monitor the content to be viewed by teenagers in advance.
C.A supervision mode ought to be introduced by parents.
D.It is the responsibility of the society to romanticize mental illnesses.
34. Who should be ultimately responsible for removing negative content according to Chan?
A.Parents.B.Social media platforms
C.Content creators.D.Social media platforms.
35. What does Wu suggest teenagers should do?
A.Use social media wisely.B.Reduce social media usage.
C.Stay away from online games.D.Learn more about social media.
Family Link has lots of advantages that may be favored by parents. Inside the app, you can create Google accounts for your children, sharing information like their names and birth dates. 36 , the device immediately requires you to log in and install the Family Link app onto the device so it can be monitored.
37 On the parent’s phone, by tapping on the child’s account profile you can follow a child’s location. You can also approve or reject apps that a child is trying to download. So if you’re worried about an addictive game, simply block the apps. Parents can also use Family Link to create restrictions for how children browse the web. 38 , you can also require the child to get permission for each site visited, blocking the ones you disapprove of.
39 , which can be used to set limits for how long a child can use a phone each day. For instance, you could give the child three hours on weekdays. You can also schedule regular bedtime hours that lockdown the device at specific times.
Caroline Knorr, the parenting editor of Common Sense Media, which evaluates
content and products for families, applauded the screen time feature, noting the difficulty of getting children to put down their phones. 40 “It’s not a set-it-and-forget-it thing where parents think,” she said. “We’re all still learning this technology, and life is very unpredictable.”
A.For a more picky approach
B.It is going to solve all my problems
C.Then when your child logs in to a phone
D.From there, Family Link is a breeze to use
E.Parents will probably love a feature called screen time
F.But sticking with time limits and schedules would be complicated

I’m not going to say storms are good, because I know what they’ve stolen from people. But my story is of a storm that gave me more than I’d thought to ask for.
The tornado(龙卷风)blew through on a Sunday. We were visiting grandparents in Raleigh then, unaware that seventy miles away the big tree in our front yard was tearing through our roof and destroying the kitchen.
When we returned, we saw Rosica’s father and brothers in our yard, gathering debris(碎片)and using a chain saw to cut the thickest branches of the fallen tree, though we barely knew them then. They were covered in sweat and dirt.
My mom didn’t seem to notice how happy they were to help us because the first thing she said was “Oh, you don’t need to be doing all that work!” Mr. Flores laughed.“Claro! Of course, we don’t. But more importantly, you cannot sleep in that house tonight. Come and speak to my wife. She’ll help you figure out what to do.” My mom doesn’t usually let people tell her what to do, but she sighed(叹气)deeply as she took in the sight of our home in the failing light, reached for my hand, and followed our neighbor to their house.
The Flores family lived across the street. Their home was the same size as ours but housed three generations. Rosica was my age. I knew her name and face, but since she was new to our school, and had a different teacher than I did, we had never spoken. It was she who answered the door.“Mama is changing the sheets on the bed for you, and there’s some lemon cheesecake on the table.”
“Please don’t trouble yourself. I think I’d call a hotel and see about a room,” my mom said, more uneasy than usual. Mrs. Flores came down the stairs and smiled at us warmly, “Y our room is ready. I know it’s more encouraged to give than receive, but allow yourself to receive a place to stay, and allow us the chance to give you something you need!”
