Sitting in front of the television may be relaxing, but spending too much time in front of it may take years off your life.
Australian researchers collected information from more than 11,000 people over the age of 25. The study found that if people watched too much TV, they would live a shorter life. If people watched over 6 hours of TV a day, they would live about 4.8 years less than those who didn’t watch any television. That means, if you watch an hour of TV, you will lose 22 minutes of life. The longer time you watch TV, the less exercise you do. And it will be possible for you to have heart problems.
Lennert Veerman is the main writer of the study. He thinks that the habit of sitting and watching TV for a long time can make their life shorter, even when people have a good eating habit. “Doctors should ask their patients about how long they watch TV.” Veerman suggests, “This may be a better way than just asking them to get more exercise or have a healthy eating habit.”
Veerman advises people to turn off the TV and get off the sofa to get some exercise. Even light exercise can make you healthier.
