2.First Lady Michelle Obama is a big fan of volunteering. Volunteering means working for free to help someone else. Mrs. Obama says volunteering is very important. “It should be part of everyone’s life, ” she says.
Many teens agree. They say that helping others feels great and makes a difference. These days, more teens volunteer than work for pay. Teens clean up parks, walk dogs at animal shelters , visit the elderly and more.

3.That cold January night, I was growing sick of my life in San Francisco. There I was，walking home at one in the morning after a tiring practice at the
theatre. With opening night only a week ago, I was still learning my lines. I was having trouble dealing with my part-time job at the bank and my acting at night at the same time. As I walked, I thought seriously about giving up both acting and San Francisco. City life had become too much for me.
As I walked down empty streets under tall buildings, I felt very small and cold. I began running, both to keep warm and to keep away from any possible robbers(抢劫犯). Very few people were still out except a few sad-looking homeless people under blankets.
About a block from my apartment, I heard a sound behind me. I turned quickly, half expecting to see someone with a knife or a gun. The street was empty. All I saw was a shining streetlight. Still, the noise had made me nervous, so I started to run faster. Not until I reached my apartment building and unlocked the door did I realize what the noise had been. It had been my wallet falling to the sidewalk.
Suddenly I wasn’t cold or tired anymore. I ran out of the door and back to where I’d heard the noise. Although I searched the sidewalk anxiously for fifteen minutes, my wallet was nowhere to be found.
Just as I was about to give up the search, I heard the garbage truck（垃圾车）pull up to the sidewalk next to me. When a voice called from the inside, “Alisa Camacho” I thought I was dreaming. How could this man know my name The door opened, and out jumped a small red-haired man with an amus ed look in his eye. “Is this what you’re looking for?” he asked, holding up a small square shape.

4.According to most people, after a long period of studying or working, we need to have a rest to refresh ourselves. However, that may not be the case. According to a recent report, you don’t need the break as much as you may think that makes you feel less tired.
Scientists have long assumed that willpower(意志力)is a limited resource, which is why you feel the need to have a rest, have a snack and come back a task when you’re feeling better. They argued that the only way to restore willpower was by rest, food or entertainment.
But psychologists have challenged this theory, saying weak willpower is all in your head. They found that people’s beliefs in willpower determine how long and how well they’ll be able to work on a tough mental exercise.
“If you think of willpower as something that is not easily used up, you can go on and on.” Said Prof. Veronika Job
The researchers designed four experiments to test students’ beliefs in willpower. After a tiring task, those, who believed or were led to believe that willpower is a limited resource, performed worse on standard concentration tests than those who thought of willpower as something they had more control over. They also found that leading up to final exam week, students who believed the limited resource theory ate junk food 24 percent more often than those who believed they had more control in resisting temptation(诱惑).
Mr. Job said. “The theory t hat willpower is a limited resource is interesting. A belief in willpower as a non-limited resource makes people stronger in their ability to work through challenges.”
The findings could help people who are battling temptation. Willpower isn’t driven b y a biologically based process as much as we used think. The belief in it is what influences your behavior.
