Summary of Robinson Crusoe Crusoe (the family name corrupted from the German name "Kreutznaer") sets sail from the Queen's Dock in Hull on a sea voyage in August 1651, against his parents' wishes, who want him to pursue a career, possibly in law. After a tumultuous journey where his ship is wrecked in a storm, his lust for the sea remains so strong that he sets out to sea again. This journey, too, ends in disaster as the ship is taken over by Salépirates(the SaléRovers) and Crusoe is enslaved by a Moor. Two years later, he escapes in a boat with a boy named Xury; a Captain of a Portuguese ship off the west coast of Africa rescues him. The ship is en route to Brazil. With the captain's help, Crusoe procures a plantation.Y ears later, Crusoe joins an expedition to bring slaves from Africa but he is shipwrecked in a storm about forty miles out to sea on an island (which he calls the Island of Despair) near the mouth of the Orinoco river on September 30, 1659. Only he and three animals, the captain's dog and two cats, survive the shipwreck. Overcoming his despair, he fetches arms, tools, and other supplies from the ship before it breaks apart and sinks. He builds a fenced-in habitat near a cave which he excavates. By making marks in a wooden cross, he creates a calendar. By using tools salvaged from the ship, and ones he makes himself, he hunts, grows barley and rice, dries grapes to make raisins, learns to make pottery, and raises goats. He also adopts a small parrot. He reads the Bible and becomes religious, thanking God for his fate in which nothing is missing but human society.

Robinson CrusoeBy Daniel DefoeBorn in a rich family, Robinson was so fearless that he was interested in sail on his own. His father forbade him from his dangerous dream, but Robinson refused to take his father’s advice. He went on a sail, which later resulted in the ship sinking. However, Robinson did not learn a lesson from his failure. Instead, he carried on his adventure. One day, his friends suggested him to buy solves from Africa and then sold them in America in order to earn plenty of money. But this kind of evil act was not supported by god. Robinson’s ship came across a great storm and the ship sank again. All the people on the ship died, except Robinson. He drifted onto an island. What’s more fortunately, he managed to get some food, together with some clothes, guns, ammo and some tools from the sunken ship. By digging holes under his tent, Robinson made his first house. After his hardest time, the life of Robinson finally reached the right way.Robinson started to plant barley and paddy, and taught himself to make bread. During this period of time, he never gave up looking for the chance to be found by British or Spanish, dream of being sent to his hometown. But when he finally found a footstep, he felt frightened. The reason was that he realized the footstep belonged to a savage. So Robinson armed his house and turned it into a bastion.Later, Robinson helped a savage who would have eaten by other savages and made the savage his servant. Robinson gave his servant a name of ‘Friday’, just because it was on Fridaythat Robinson found the savage and saved him. Friday soon became his friend. Robinson taught Friday to speak English, to believe in god and how to use guns.As an old saying goes, ’God help those who help themselves.’ After the long, long time to wait, a British ship came at last. Soon Robinson found that the captain of the ship was betrayed, and the mate, as well as some other sailors, decided to take pirate as his new job. Robinson and Friday used their wisdom to help the captain take command of the ship again. To express the great thanks to Robinson, the captain sent Robinson and Friday to England for free. Then, after 35 years of drift, Robinson came back to his hometown.Written by John Zhang。

The Life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson CrusoeBy: Ke YimanClass 2, English department Maybe there are no person lives alone and stay at an island for long time, we just traveling to island for fun and open our eyes. Today, I have been read this novel which written by Daniel Defoe, and then tell you some thoughts of mine.Robinson is a man who is brave and positive. In this novel, he liked adventures and took special feeling about those. Through he had a rich family and happy time; he never gave up his dreams about finding a new place to enjoy the life. When he went to the sea, he believed he can take a great affect. In fact, a dangerous experience was coming. Because of the heavy storm, he had to depart with his sailors; Robinson is the only person who lived from this storm. And then, he came to an island. It was a hard time for him, there had not any useful things, like houses, knifes, guns, even some people. In order to live, he had to create some necessary things by himself. Robinson cut small or tall trees to build houses and fences, feed sheep to get milk, planted millets to make bread. These things cost a lot of time to do, maybe several months or years. After a long, long time, he built three houses on island and took some calves as hidden places. At there, he stored foods, guns and so on. Also, he tailored his clothes by animal skins and used some stones to make instruments. With his effect, he made a fairyland to live. One day, he found some wild men were killing their servants, Robinson wanted to give some castigation to these men who rushed into his own land, but he saved a life from these wild people, and named him Friday. He was very happy, because he can spent time with a man and talked with him. So, he taught him some simple sentences to communicate, and helped him to use these tools to produce. It’s a good time for them. But Robinson never forgot the dream is that to come back to the England. So, he began work on the canoe and decided to take Friday with him. Although it is a long preparation, they always felt excited.Luck follows them. After a long waiting, an England ship appeared at there, and Robinson had a consult with the captain if they can help him to fight against mutinies, he would take them back to England. It was really good news. They helped the captain and said goodbye to the island, then sailed home to England. After twenty-seven years, two months and nineteen days, Robinson with his true friend, Friday; laughed and cried together to celebrate the best thing in this world! When I finished reading this novel, I was touched by Robinson and his spirits. It is difficult to live alone and we will feel loneliness without any things we are quiet familiar. Some people may give up and end up with killing themselves. But, Rob inson’s experience is a great and useful teaching material for us.He was a hero for that age when all western people loved to find a new land, just like Columbus. He worked for himself and had not forgotten the wish that come back the home. Since this reason, he was trained his own abilities at there and built ahappy life. He overcame the difficulties by means of wisdom and courage. In fact, if a man has to face the predicament, he will explore a power to fight for himself. And then, challenges are not so terrible. On the one hand, Robinson was a representative of the capitalist class. His adventures came out characters of England, like gumption, sporting blood, perseverance and so on. There were spirits of Robinson, also were needed of society. That was a developing society, the techniques of machine and productions are most important. With helped of those, England became rich and great. At the same time, people in England wanted to find some new places to use their inventions, also got resources to make the country better and better. So, we can image that was cross the ocean to discover new places. Robinson was full of passion, even though he was in danger. He used the knowledge of living and had a wonderful life on island. It was a miracle, I think.Every coin has two sides. This adventure showed a phenomenon in history, especially in capitalist class and other classes. Colonialist occupied the small countries or lands to get anything they want. Although it’s good for their manufacturing production, it also injured the development of colonies. Because of colonial rules and colonial exploitation, many countries became poor and helpless. Making a general survey of history, we can learn about them. They were evil actions, weren’t they?In my opinion, optimism and courage are keys to change situations. Because of them, we never feel fearsome or hopeless. You know, we can become stronger and then, realize our dreams. Also, a man should have sense of independence, is not always depend on others or need their help. In modern society, independence is most important; we need them to develop our society and country. Because they will face things in life and never give up. It is good for this time, I guess. To be honesty, there are keen competitions; we really need these spirits from Robinson and his servant friend, Friday. Faith, wisdom, brave, positive, passion, confidence, creation, fight and independence. These are great spirits for us; everybody should keep them in your own heart and show them out at necessary time.I hope everyone can do it well and never feel fearing.Let us become a new Robinson!!。
