三、阅读理解(共15小题; 每小题2分, 满分30分)
A
A woman was waiting at an airport one night, with several long hours before her flight. She bought a book and a bag of cookies in the airport shop, and found a place to drop.
She was interested in her book, but the man sitting beside her grabbed a cookie or two from the bag in between, which she tried to ignore to avoid an argument.
So she ate the cookies noisily and watched the clock, as the cookie thief diminished (使……变少) her stock. She was getting angrier as the minutes passed, thinking, “Oh, brother, if I wasn’t so nice, I would blacken your eyes.”
With each cookie she took, he took one, too. When only one was left, she wondered what he would do. With a smile on his face, he took the last cookie and broke it in half. He offered her half, and he ate the other. She got it from him and thought, “This guy has some nerve (胆量) and he’s also rude. Why didn’t he even show any gratitude?”
She had never known when she had been so angry. She gathered her bag and headed for the gate, refusing to look back at the thieving ingrate (忘恩负义者).

I started skating when I was 3 years old in Canada, my fat her’s birthplace. Competing in the Olympic Games had been a dream of mine, but it was not the most important thing in my or my family’s life.
My parents were not willing to separate me from my family or take me out of my local public school to accomplish my dream. If I was going to make it in skating, I was going to do it by being a functional family member and following the same rules as my brothers and sisters. And this suited me just fine — one house, one school, one community, one rink (滑冰场) — provided a very stable and productive environment.
When I was 12 years old, my mother was sick. I was on the way to making my first national team. Seeing my excitement gave her strength. On days she was too weak to walk down the hospital corridor, she would think, “I have to make it through. I have to be there for my kid.” My mom was able to leave the hospital to come to Philadelphia to watch me win the Junior Ladies title. That day I was skating for more than just the judges.
The stability instilled (逐渐培养) in my life by my parents made all the difference when I performed in Salt Lake City on skating’s grandest stage. When I stood atop the Olympic podium five months after 9/11 in my home country, I was able to share more than just my skating experience with others. My younger sister, Emily, who competed in the 2006 Winter Olympics, was raised in the same stable, supportive environment.

Obviously, humans aren’t the only anim als that sing. Birds do it. Killer whales do it. And if you are really lucky, you might see a frog do it.
What makes humans unique (独特的) is pop culture. One guy can make a song, put it on an album or the Internet and have thousands of people singing along to it. There’s no way another animal does that, right?
Well, we know of at least one.
Wait! What?
Whale songs become “hits” that can spread halfway around the world. All the males (雄性动物) usually sing just one song at any given time. But once they get bored of that song, a member in the group will start singing a new one. Sometimes, this new song contains elements (特色) of the old song combined with some new things. At other times, this song is completely new.
Once a new song catches on, every male in the group will start singing it, too. But that’s just a bunch of whales in a group imitating (模仿) each other. That’s not like the pop cultu re humans have, right?
Scientists have found out that a song doesn’t stay limited to just one population. A pop song will actually spread all over the Pacific, from Australia to French Polynesia, thousands of miles, over a couple of years. For some reason, all the whales in the east of Australia are the ones who will just plagiarize (剽窃) their western neighbors’ songs once they hear them sing a new song.
47. The first paragraph serves as a(n) .
A. discussion
B. imagination
C. introduction
D. description
48. What does the underlined word “one” refer to?
A. A culture.
B. An album.

D. An animal.
49. According to the passage, the whales in the east of Australia .
A. spread a popular song to their western neighbors
B. won’t be able to start new songs of their own
C. will teach each other a new song gradually
D. spend a couple of years to learn a song
50. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. Whales learn songs from humans.
B. Whales sing songs in the Pacific.
C. Whales have pop songs.
D. Whales have their own music.
四、任务型阅读(共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分)
阅读下面短文,根据所读内容在表格中的空白处填入恰当的单词。
注意:每个空格只填一个单词。
Developing a hobby makes you an interesting person and gives you something fun and enjoyable to do in your free time. It will not give you the time to feel bored but it will open up new chances of meeting people who have similar interests. Your hobby should be exciting enough to encourage you to practice it whenever you have time. It should be some interesting activity that you look forward to. Well, here are some useful tips that can help you find a suitable hobby for yourself.
To find a hobby, first of all you should make a list of all the possible activities or things you find interesting. Your new hobby can be something that you have desired to do for a long time, but could never manage the time to do so. You may also write down some possibilities that have not been expected before
while making the list. After all, you never know which hobby you will finally set your heart on.
While it may be easy to list the possible hobbies you can take up, the real problem is whether you’ll be able to afford it or not. Consider the tools and supplies for your hobby. You may be concentrating on something you can’t afford financially (财政上). Also, you need to consider whether you have time to work on your hobby. If there is something you can start right away, start it! If it takes time to start out, it might not get started at all. Anyhow, make sure that only realistic and practical choices remain on the list.
Once you’ve got rid of the choices that aren’t realistic for you, it’ll become easier for you to know your actual possibilities. However, you shouldn’t wait to get started. In fact, you also have the choice of trying out all the activities that remain on the list and know which activity you love best. Once you have explored all the hobby choices, pick up the one that you believe you will be able to continue and enjoy for long.
Though most people practice a hobby when they have time, it is important to keep some consistency (连贯性) in practicing a hobby. If you take up something once every six months, it certainly doesn’t remain a hobby. Consistency is the key to developing a hobby, or else you will find yourself preparing another list of hobby choices very soon. So make sure you practice your hobby at least once a week.
