一、阅读理解
France is a country of great food, great fashion, and great art. It is also the birthplace of various painting movements and has been home to the world's most influential painters.
Claude Monet
Claude Monet started the Impressionist movement that completely changed the face of French painting in the second half of the 19th century. He first started out with selling charcoal pictures in Paris and started painting with oil after meeting Eugene Boudin. Eugene, who taught him to use oil paints, also encouraged him to paint outdoors. Later he mastered the technique and painted with his own style.
Vincent van Gogh
Vincent van Gogh was a post-Impressionist French painter of Dutch origin, whose work had a huge influence on the 20th century art. His early works consisted more of somber(忧伤的)earth tones. However, influenced by Gauguin, Monet, Pissarro, and Bernard, he adopted brighter colors in his works, started experimenting with various techniques and formed his own one. Having produced more than 2,000 works of art, the artist sold only one painting during his lifetime-The Red Vineyard at Arles.
Edouard Manet
As one of the first artists to paint modern life, he began to paint in his own style, maintaining some of Couture's technique like the use of thick lines and dark colors. He was greatly influenced by Claude Monet and Berthe Morisot, which can be seen in his use of light shades. Most of his paintings show scenes from daily life on the streets of Paris.
Camille Pissarro
In his early years, Pissarro painted scenes of rivers or paths from memory. Success is often considered to be the opposite of failure. To teenagers, it is the achievement of a goal or completion of something they really need, such as good grades and the ability to get along well with their classmates. Some schools used to agree with most parents who measured (判定) the success of their children according to grades, but now they pay special attention to moral (道德的) education and character-building to make sure teenagers achieve success in building human relationships.
Schools give chances to students to discover their hidden ability so that they can enjoy some form of success. For example, those good at speaking skills are advised to take part in speech competitions while those interested in arts are expected to perform in front of their classmates. Teenagers also get the pleasure of success when they join their favorite clubs.
Teenagers are often told that success is not easy to achieve and that success lies in hard work. Great efforts have to be put into project work. Doing things much later than planned should be avoided as this will lead to a mountain of work which finally makes them nervous. Another good quality (品质) is a sense of responsibility which makes them remember that a task has to be completed.
Sticking to moral values is the key to success too. Honest teenagers will win the trust of friends leading to good relationships. Self-motivation (自我激励) is another quality to be developed, for self-motivated teenagers will have the strong will and drive to perform a task and finally get to enjoy a sense of achievement.

I’m used to seeing small leaps in technological progress, but occasionally, there are things that will still shock me. At the end of last year, a company called OpenAI released a truly jaw-dropping demonstration of a new AI technology that feels almost like technology has skipped ahead by a few generations.
This new AI technology is called ChatGPT, a computer program that can understand and respond to human language. It is trained on a lot of text, so it can understand what people are saying and respond in a way that sounds like a real person. What’s even more amazing is that ChatGPT seems frighteningly human in its ability to understand questions and answer them competently. “Write a story about Leonardo da Vinci in the style of Roald Dahl,” you can ask it, and it’ll spin up a pretty good children’s story.
One area where I’ve found ChatGPT to be enormously useful is its ability to write computer code. This has particularly amazed me as unlike the English language, when you write code it has to be very precise and carefully structured – but when I asked it to write me a program that would put some data into a database for me, in a particularly complex way, within seconds it generated something that would have taken me hours to do manually (人工地).
ChatGPT isn’t completely human, however. For example, it sometimes generates things that sound true, but are actually just nonsense. This is because of the way the AI learns through pattern recognition. There’s no real intelligence operating there – it is just repeating something based on what it has “read” before. ChatGPT is better at some tasks than others: it can write a brilliant invitation email, but its ability to rhyme leaves a lot to be desired.
And this is why I’m pretty convinced that ChatGPT is going to change the world, sooner
rather than later. It’s already hugely impressive, but what exists at the moment is just a demonstration. Once the same AI is built into other apps and can connect to the live internet to learn more, it will become even more sophisticated. Our computers will no longer be just our word processors, but our writing partners too.
12.What can we learn about ChatGPT from the second paragraph?
A.It can talk to people with emotion.
B.It seems like having a conversation with a real person.
C.It is unable to generate original content.
D.What it can do frightens many people.
13.Which aspect about ChatGPT’s ability to generate responses does the author feel to be particularly useful?
A.Its efficiency.B.Its precision.C.Its structure.D.Its diversity. 14.What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A.AI cannot think the same way as humans do.
B.There’s no real intelligence in the world.
C.ChatGPT has some limitations.
D.ChatGPT is better than other chatbot AI.
15.What is the author’s attitude toward ChatGPT?
A.Optimistic.B.Worried.C.Doubtful.D.Conservative.
Carbon Footprint: Definition & Facts
You know you leave a footprint when you walk around with wet foot. 16 This lesson will teach you what a carbon footprint is, what causes carbon footprints, and what you can do to reduce your carbon footprint.
What is a carbon footprint?
17 Most scientists believe that carbon dioxide and other gases like it are contributing to global warming or the slow climate change of our planet. Global warning causes lots of problems for animals and people.
18
Electricity
People use electricity in their homes to turn on lights, plug in(接通电源)kitchen appliances like a microwave, and even watch TV or play video games. When you use electricity in your home, you are not creating carbon dioxide, but the power plants that create your electricity do emit carbon dioxide. Power plants that use coal for energy create the most carbon dioxide.
The Environmental protection Agency (EPA) says that electricity is responsible for the largest part of most carbon footprints.
Gas Heating
19 Most homes use oil, natural gas, or electricity to heat their home in the winter, and all of theses sources create carbon dioxide. The amount of carbon dioxide that each family uses depends on how high they run the heat and what kind of fuel they use.
Cars
Cars are another thing that contributes to your carbon footprint. 20 Other forms of transportation, like buses, trains, and planes, also increase a carbon footprint.
A.Causes of carbon footprint.
B.But what is a carbon footprint?
C.Ways to reduce your carbon footprint.
D.The car you use would lead to climate change.
E.This happens because the gas that your car uses to run produces carbon dioxide.
F.The EPA says that gas heating is the second largest source of carbon dioxide emission. G.Every time you use a fossil fuel, like coal or gas, you create a gas called carbon dioxide.

五、书面表达
47.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Peter woke up early in the morning. He went downstairs in a hurry and started to have his breakfast as quickly as possible.
“Why are you in such a hurry, early bird?” Mum asked him. “We will have an English spelling test today, Mum,” Peter said. “Mr. White promised to offer prizes to those who get 100 scores. I've been studying the word list since last week. Although the words are difficult, I am well prepared for them.”
Peter reviewed the spelling of each word once more carefully when Dad drove him to school. At last, it was time for the students to have a test. “Responsibility,” Mr. White started. Peter wrote it on his test paper quickly and confidently.
“The second word: contribution,” Mr. White said.
“So easy,” Peter thought. He quickly wrote the word down.
Thirty words later, the test papers were collected by Mr. White. “I am to mark your papers now,” he told the class. After marking the test papers, Mr. White said, “three of you won a prize today for excellent test scores. Peter, David and Mary got 100 percent on the spelling test!”
Mr. White praised them. Meanwhile, he gave the three students each a dictionary. Peter's was an English-Chinese dictionary —the one he liked best. Peter was so excited that he held it high when his classmates cheered. “This is my happiest moment.” Peter thought.
After Mr. White gave the test paper back, Peter had a look at the words, feeling proud of his spelling. All of a sudden, the word “contribution” confused him. It didn't seem right. Peter began to compare them after taking out the word list. “C-o-n-t-r-i-b-u-s-i-o-n,” he whispered. He had spelled it wrong.
