What electives to choose

“I am so happy and excited”, said Litian, a out-going junior student in Lantian University, “for I can find various elective courses available in my school, both interesting and practical”. She had already made a clear plan for the four years’ study since her arrival --- on what electives she should take. In the first year, she took modern multi-media, computer security; in the second,Chinese custom appreciation; now, shape-building. It is equally true among most of today’s Chinese colleges and universities.

“I choose to study computer knowledge just for my love for it”, Litian added. When she was young, the computer exerted a tremendous fascination on her, amazing how it works and what changes it could make on our life. Unfortunately, by her parents’ force, she took English as her major, in which computer course is not required. The electives provided by her school meet her needs for it. Unlike this lucky girl, most of students choose the courses of these kinds for future greater development. After all, the more they learn in college; the more possible they are to get a huge future success. Many cases have already proved it.

Take my self as a good example. In order to keep in a good shape, I chose to study in the course on shape-building. Similarly, I, as a student majoring in Chinese medicine, selected Zhou Gong Jie Meng (a piece of world-known work written by our ancestor with first name Zhou on dream analyzing) to promote my future academic development.

Create a green campus

“I feel extremely happy and excited in our green campus.” Said Xiaoli --- a senior student of Peking University majoring in English, “every morning I can reading in a beautiful garden on my campus, trees surrounding us, streams running through them, birds singing on them, flowers smiling at us, and students reading everywhere”. “If I could get a second chance to study in college, I would choose this school again”, she added.

The real definition on green campus, however, is certainly beyond Miss Li’s pleasures. More importantly, it should be based on a good studying climate which should be the main task for our school authority to build a green campus, teamwork and mutual-help among students which can make student more competitive in future working places, a civilized and polite manner which of course a important virtue we can not neglect, innovative and creative mind which, according to modern conceptions, is the key quality for future greater success.

From our own perspectives, we, as the modern and responsible colleges students should make no efforts left to protect our campus environment--- never littering the rubbish here and there. Of course, adjusting the attitude towa

rd study is also expected. Learning to treat people with politeness and do business with enthusiasm should be taken into our consideration

(1)年轻人上大学不但能培养他们的自立能力，而且能为他们日后的职业生涯奠定良好的基础。

(2)中老年人上大学，可以保持他们在工作中的竞争力。

(3)上大学，能交更多的朋友，学习优秀同学的先进思维方式。

(4)系统地学习知识，满足个人学习新东西、增长新知识的需要。

2. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Parents are the best teachers. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

思路一：同意父母是最好的老师。

(l)我们从小就和父母在一起，父母会把他们知道的方方面面的知识毫无保留地传授给我们。

(2)父母最了解我们，所以他们给我们的建议和意见都是最有针对性的。

(3)父母最关心我们的成长，他们总是想方设法给我们提供最好的学习环境和成长空间。

思路二：不同意父母是最好的老师。

(l)大部分的父母都不是专业的教育工作者，所以他们教育自己孩子的方式在很多时候都是不科学的。

2)书本知识相对系统和完整，能够让人以很科学的方式迅速获得知识，从而节省大量的宝贵时间。

3)读书获取知识相对比较便宜和容易，而从实践巾获取知识则比较昂贵和困难。

4)读书虽然比较重要，但是实践的作用也不可低估，要知道有些知识是无法从书本中获得的，只能通过亲身体验才能得到。

思路1：实际上，运气在人成功的过程中也很重要。

(1)努力是成功不可或缺的一部分，但个人的努力在大多数时候只是为机会的到来做一些必要的准备。
