Unit 10 The world around us Ⅰ.Teaching Goals:1.Talk about ways to protect the environment.2.Talk about wildlife endangerment.3.Review Direct and Indirect Speech.4.Write about causes and effects.Ⅱ.Teaching Time:Four periodsⅢ.Background InformationⅠ.Animals and Their LanguagesAnimals, including insects,do not have a language like ours. They do not talk with each other in words and sentences. But if we watch them,we can see that they do have ways of communicating(交流) with each other. Can you see the rabbit’s tail? When rabbits see this white tail moving up and down, they run. They know that there is danger. The rabbit has told them something without making a sound. It has given them a signal. Many other animals use this kind of language. When a cobra(眼镜蛇)is angry,it raises its hood(颈部皮褶)and makes itself look fierce(凶猛).This warns other animals. When a bee has found some food,it goes back to its home.It can’t tell other bees where the food is by speaking to them, but it doesa little dance in the air. This tells the bees where the food is.Some animals say things by making sounds.A dog barks, for example, when a stranger comes near.A cat purrs when pleased. Some birds make several different sounds, each with its own meaning.Sometimes we human beings speak in the same way.We make sounds like“Oh”or“Ah”when we are frightened or pleased or when we drop something on our toes. But we have something that no other animals have—a large number of words which have the meanings of things, actions, feelings or ideas. We are able to give each other all kinds of different information in words and sentences, which no other animals can do.No other animals have so wonderful a language as we have.Ⅱ.Conservation of Nature Is Necessary 1970 was “World Conservation Year”.The UN wanted everyone to know that the world is in danger. They hoped that governments would act quickly in order to conserve(保护)nature. Here is one example of the problem. At one time there were 1 300 different plants, trees and flowers in Holland, but now only 860 remain. The others have been destroyed by modern man and his technology. We are changingthe earth, the air and water, and everything that grows and lives here.We can’t live without these things. If it continues like this,we shall destroy ourselves. What will happen in the future?Perhaps it is more important to ask “What must we do now?”The people who will be living in the world of tomorrow are the young of today.A lot of them know that conservation is necessary. Many are helping to save our world. They plant trees, build bridges across rivers in forests, and so on.In a small town in the United States a large group of girls cleaned the banks of eleven kilometres of their river.Young people may hear about conservation through a record called NO ONE’S GOING TO CHANGE OUR WORLD.It was made by the Beatles,Cliff Richard and other singers. The money from it will help to conserve wild animals.Ⅲ.Milu DeerThe milu deer is a kind of deer, which is a rare and unusual species. It has another Chinese name si bu xiang,a little of four animals, because it has antlers of a deer, the neck of a camel, the hooves of a cow and the tail of a donkey. It is the biggest of all kinds of deer. They are an extraordinary species because they haven’tbeen in the wild for two thousand years.A long time ago, they were living in the marshland hunted of our country and were the main animals hunted by our ter they disappeared in the wild because of the vicissitudes of nature and hunting too much. For many dynaties they existed only in the imperial hunting park on the outskirts of Beijing. They are unusual in other ways. They are the only deer that have the gait of a horse. They walk, trot, canter and gallop which no other deer does.In 1894 the walls of the Imperial Hunting Park in China were washed away in the Great Floods. The deer escaped into the countryside.Four years later during the Boxer Movements whatever deer remained were slaughtered for flood or shot by foreign troops. Some of them were captured and taken to the foreign countries by foreigners. After 1900,they were only seen in an English zoo and a French zoo.In 1985,38 milu deer were brought from England by our government. They were kept in the park built on the outskirts of Beijing, which is part of the former Imperial Hunting Park. The milu deer have come home and since then, their numbers have been increasing year by year. The First PeriodTeaching Aims:1.Do some listening and speaking practice to improve the students’ listening and speaking skills.2.Learn something about the

本文通过课文“ Are we endangered ”?

The world around us
Reading部分课文Are we endangered ?(第66页)

本文通过课文“Are we endangered ?”的网络课例设计,探究下列几个问题:1、如何通过网络支持学生的主动学习;2、如何通过网络培养学生获取、选择、整合信息的能力;
3、如何通过网络培养学生的协作精神;

Are we endangered ?”
的网络课例设计,探究下列几个问题:1、如何通过网络支持学生的主动学习;2、如何通过网络培养学生获取、选择、整合信息的能力;3、如何通过网络培养学生的协作精神;
