Unit 1—Unit 7Unit 1Section AII1 The attitude is that if one is not moving ahead, he is falling behind2 Time is treated as if it were something almost real People budget it, waste it, steal it, kill it, cut it, account for it; they also charge for it They do this because time is a precious resource3 Everyone is in a rush—often under pressure In the writer‟s eyes, city people always appear to be hurrying to get where they are going, restlessly seeking attention in a store, or elbow ing others as they try to complete their shopping4 Don‟t take it personally This is because people value time highly, and they resent someone else “wasting” it beyond a certain appropriate point5 This is because Americans generally assess and enquire about their visitors professionally rather than socially They start talking business very quickly Time is always ticking in their inner ear6 Americans produce a steady flow of labor-saving devices: they communicate rapidly through faxes, phone calls or emails rather than through personal contacts7 The impersonality of electronic communication has little or no relation to the significance of the matter at hand8 It is taken as a sign of skillfulness or being competent to solve a problem or fulfill a job with speed in the U S III1 Budgeted2 acute3 restless4 surroundings5 competent6 assessing7 elbowed8 conductingIV 1.behind 2 for 3 to 4 out 5 of 6 to 7 in 8 intoV 1 commitment 2 attraction 3 appointment 4 impression 5 civilization 6 composition 7 confusion 8 congratulation 9 consideration 10 explanation 11 acquisition 12 depressionVI 1 advisable 2 desirable 3 favorable 4 considerable 5 remarkable 6 preferable 7 drinkable 8 acceptableVII1 much less do they take them out for dinner2 much less a big company3 much less carry it upstairs4 much less spoken to him5 much less ( to ) read a lot outside of itVIII1 Having meals at home can cost as little as two or three dollars, whereas eating out at a restaurant is always more expensive2 We thought she was rather proud, whereas in fact she was just very shy3 We have never done anything for them, whereas they have done everything for us4 Natalie prefers to stay for another week, whereas her husband prefers to leave immediately5 Some highly praise him, whereas others put him down severelyIX Translation Chinese to English1 In the eyes of some people, Picasso‟s paintings would seem rather foolish2 The increase in their profits is due partly to their new market strategy3 The man told his w ife to keep the medicine on the top shelf so that it would be beyond the children‟s reach4 Happiness doesn't always go with money5 That car has given me nothing but trouble ever since I bought itX1 这种态度的结果是,全国人民都投身到研究、实验和探索中去了。

English is known as a world language, regularly used by many nations whose English is not their first language. Like other languages, English has changed greatly. The history of the English language can be divided into three main periods: Old English, Middle English and Modern English. The English language started with the invasion of Britain by three Germanic tribes during the 5th century AD, and they contributed greatly to the formation of the English language. During the medieval and early modern periods, the influence of English spread throughout the British Isles, and from the early 17th century its influence began to be felt throughout the world. The processes of European exploration and colonization for several centuries led to significant change in English. Today, American English is particularly influential, due to the popularity of American cinema, television, music, trade and technology, including the Internet.

举例来说,杂货店的指示牌会把他们引向stationary(静止处),虽然便笺本、相册、和笔记本等真正的stationery(文具用品)并没有被钉在那儿。

朋友和亲人常宣称They've just ate。

实际上,他们应该说They've just eaten。

A larger and larger part of society is expressing its concern about environmentalprotection.Active in their concern, teachers and students hold specific meetings todiscuss environmental protection. Also, city planners take environmental problems intoserious consideration. And,though reducing pollution can be expensive, factories oftentake every possible measure to do their part. Many people are concerned and activebecause air and water pollution affects everyone and makes it difficult for cities tosurvive and businesses to make a profit. Computers, just like any new technology, have a negative side.As more and morecomputers are used in production lines, many jobs are being taken over bycomputer-controlled machines. As a result, many workers are finding themselves jobless. This constitutes a threat to social security.Another problem is computer crimes.Forexample, some people are finding ways to break into the bankcomputer systems andtransfer large sums of money to their own accounts. There have been many reports likethis. One more negative effect of computers is that they bring about health problems.Sitting in front of computers al l day undoubtedly affects people’s health.Back pain, wristpain, failing eyesight,to name only a few. Many people place so much emphasis on success that they think any failure is bad.Failure is never pleasant because it hurts people. But in fact itcan make positivecontribution to our life once we learn how to make the best ofit.We can learn from adisastrous party how to give a good one.And we can learn from anill-chosen first housewhat to look for in a second.Even a total failure can give us fresh ideas or a change ofdirection.Repeated failures lead to success and prove to be beneficial to us as weexperiment every day to find out the right way of doing things. Parents have to save a large amount of money for their children to study abroad.Apartfrom the international flight, they have to pay for their daily expense, such as food,shelter,entertainment,long-distance telephone calls, and clothing. In addition, thechildren should have some money ready to cover unexpected expenses. There are many problems for mixed marriages. The number one reason is the culturaldifferences between the mixed couple, like those in customs and lifestyle. Many peoplehave prejudice against mixed marriages. They often feel shocked to see people ofdifferent races get married and have doubts about suchmarriages. What’s more, children from mixed marriages tend to be looked down upon or even badly treated bytheir peers.Mixed marriages face many trials, and as a result, mixed couples have higherdivorce rates than couples of the same race.估计你们也就考这些吧【新视野大学英语第二版第二册答案】新视野大学英语第二版第二册答案(二): 求新视野大学英语第二版第二册读写教程unit10答案求新视野大学英语第二版第二册读写教程unit10课后练习的答案新视野大学英语(第2版)第2册Unit 10答案sectionAVocabulary Task 11.channels2.rescued3.royal4.survival5.crash6.Whichever7.punishment 8.cast 9.endured 10.surrender 11.raid 12.ancient13.sorrow 14.historic 15.spitVocabulary Task 21.over2.in3.in4.on5.under6.on7.down8.for9.after 10.off 11.of 12.from 13.in 15.outBanked Cloze1.O2.H3.M4.J5.K6.G7.C8.A9.F 10.ECloze1-15BSAAC CABCA DABADTranslation Task 11.Suggested answer:I remember the whole thing clearly as though it had happened yesterday.2.Suggested answer:Whichever of them writes the best essay will win the prize.3.Suggested answer:It turned out that the budget provided for a salary increase one year later.4.Suggested answer:She did the same job day after day and yearafter year, but she never complained.5.Suggested answer:She endured all kinds of hardships on the journey; nothing could keep her from finding her lost daughter.6.Suggested answer:Don"t get mixed up with that gang. They have committed many bad things in broad daylight. 1.what kind of music do most people prefer, slow or fast musiccanyou guess why>It"s hard to a difinite conclusion.. it depends. I think this has something to do with people"s moods and personalities. A person in high spirits often enjoys quick-tempo music. When one feels blue, the choice is more likely to be slow, sad music to fit that mook. It semms to me that race may also play a role inour choice of music. Asians, like Chinese , Japanese and Koreans often enjoy melodies. The famous "Liang Zhu:, or "te romance of the butterfly, is a case in point. When we move westward, to India and Europe, for example, we can easily observe th e difference, for the musical rhythm there suddenly accelerates, and the music becomes more lively and upbeat.2.what kind ofmusic do yu prefer, classical music or pop musicpersonally, i prefer pop music, though i have no ovjection to classical music. classical mucic composed by such great musicians as Beethoven and Mozart is indeed brilliant, but few people can really appreciateit , let alone play or sing it. pop music is defferent. as the name suggests, it is popular with all people. we can easily understand pop songs. what"s more anyone can sing pop songs without much difficulty sice they require little professional training. thus, the distance between the singer on the stage and the audience narrow. from time to time, the singer walks down to shake hands with fand, while the latter often sing along with their idols.3. do you thin music can affect people"s lives, for example, to calm people, to cheer them up, or to increase efficiencyGenerally speaking, i think so. at least this is true of most people. mothers tend to hum a soothing lullaby instead of a military march to their babies. at a sports meeting ,the music is often fast and vigorous. seldom is a painfully slow serenade played. withreapect to the issue of effciency, I"m afraid it is rather controversial. quite a few students prefer to listen to a walkman or a diskman while they are doing thier homework. ont the other hand, many demand absolute silence before they can concentrate on their academic work.4. do you like singing karaoke whyi like to sing at a karaoke bar to relax. To my mind, this has at least two advantages. First, i can sing whatever i like to the accompaninment of the music from the TV. Second, after singing loudly or even screaming for a while, i often feel relaxed and forget my worries.Unit 21. do you prefer to watch movies at home or at the theater whythis is a difficult question, for most of us enjoy both. but if you press me with this question, I should say that persoally I prefer watching a DVD at home. It is true that watching a movie at a theater has a number of advantages. Fore example, the sound effects are much better. when yu hear guns firing in a theater, you feel as if you were on a real battelfield. moreover, the presence of an audience can create a good atmosphere. when you watch a comedy on TV by yourself, you may be amused by the funny words and actions, but you are unlikely to laugh out loud. in a theater, on the other hand, you may laugh heartily when the whole audience bursts into wild laughter.in spite of those pluses for the theater, i have to say that i prefer to stay home and watch the same movie on DVD. in this way i feel more relaxed . I don"t have to sit on a chair. Instead, i canlie on a sofa. I can drink tea or coffee while watching the movie.Ican also press the PAUSE button, go to the kitchen or toilet, and then come back to continue the movie. More importantly, if Idon"t understad section of the movie, I can replay it. Obviously, the advantages of viesing at home outweigh the advantages of viewing it a t a theater.2.which do you prefer, contemporary movies or classic movies why different people have dirrerent choices, each with their reasons. grnerally, older people prefer old, classic povies, while young people choose contemporary movies, though we can find many exceptions to that pattern. It is reasonable for older people to favor th traditional movies of their time. When they see such movies, thier memories of the past will be activated. It is not uncommon for us to observe that when elderly people wee things in a movie that they personally experience, they get excited and even shed tears. some doctors say this sort of memory stimulation can have healing effects and slow doun memory loss.while i understand that older people have good reason s to choose old movies, I prefer movies on contemporary themes. New movies are superior in many respects. Ffirst of all, the technoloty has improved, and therefore we can injoy better scienes. Second, the director, actors and actresses ahve all improved their skills. when you look at chinese movies of the 1950s, you may find some actors and actresses talk or act somewhat artficially. third ,contemporary movies are often colser to our dayly olives, and afer seeing them, we can understand our society better. In other words, new movies have better educational value. of course, the advantages of modern movies are not limited only to those I"ve just named. But they are reasonsenough for me to make my choice.3. whick do you prefer, chinese movies or fouengn movieswhyoccasionally I do enjoy seeing a foeign movie, it can take my mind off to a distant land. The outlandish setting often excites me, and different values tend to give me much food for thought. however, my lack of background information often requires me to make too many inferences , and sometimes, i cannot understand certain parts of the movie. in such cases i may feel less entertained.by comparison, I feel more at home with Chinese movies. I can easily associate the sciene and lines with the historical background.I can readily unerstand witty conversation and implied meanings. sometime i can evn predict what is going to happen from the speaker"s tone or gesture. still, it is true that Chinese movies cannot yet compete with Western movies in filming technoloty,. I do hope the next generation of Chinese movies will make further improvement.Unit 31. do you think marriages based on love are more successful than arranged marriagesGenerally speaking, marriages based on love are more successful than arranged marriages. in its long history, China has witnessed many tragic events arising from arranged marriages.however, we should not go to extremes and claim that all arranged marriages are failures, after all, in the past 2023-plus years, most of the arranged marriages did survive, and some of the couples did develop real love after their marriage.as for marriages based on love, they are not without problems. in the contemporary world, arranged marriages have almost disappeared. boys and girls go out on dates and gradually develop a love betweenthem before they get married. Strangely, the divorce rate has kept rising. and the reasons for divorce can be very simple:"we can no longer communicate with each other very well" or "I"ve gotten bored with him or her".In spite of the drawbacks of marriages based on love and the occasional successes of arranged marriages, it is obvious to all that the former are more in conformity with human nature. the traditional pratice of arranged moaaiages should not be restored.2. do you think a girl should marry someone who is much older or younger than she ispersonally, I think a girl should not marry someone who is too old or too young for her. with a wide age gap, a couple may be physically incompatible, and their ways of thinking may differ largely from each other. But I will not go so far as to claim that marriages with a wide age gap will all fail. We can find many perfect matches between a young girl and a middle-aged man.Generally, we would do well to follow nature, and a girl should select her spuse from among people close to her own age. this will prevent many unnecessary difficulties.Unit 41.Both sides spend piles of money to produce cool ads, but in face they will only cancel out each other"s effort. Neither side will gain. Eventually, the large sums spent on advertising will be passed on to consumers. Sounds bad, doesn"t it But we have no alternative. If we alow ads for one product but forbid ads for another, this means unfair competition. As a result, one product will turn out to be successful, while the other is sure to have a poor market.should we baan ads altogether This seems fair to all manufacturers.but consumers will not have enough information about products to make a choice. Worse still, they may not even know a new product has been turned ot, let alone buy it.Perhaps we had better acfcept ads, but we can impose restrictions on them to protect consumers" interests. For exaple, an ad should not include an untruthful statement or exaggeration. also, advertisers should not claim that their products are superior to oters, Restrictions like these may partly compensate for the shortcomings of advertisements. 6:DDCAC trying on a businesssuit in a blouse cotton tights a dress a miniskirt to an office catch more eyes suit atypical boy ACDBC CBAAD BCDAC7:CDABC give me a loan What for support are spending hard up myself let him know get nowhere easy-going generalmanager my luck DCBAB BACDA BDCCC8 BDDCA in prison the greater part of small office things three meals/3 meals get a break play gamesget fired all ears allow on thephonechange places In spite of BCDDA BACBC ADABD9 CCADC driven through right awaysmells of run into going Look out hit it the opposite way BDACC ABDAC BBDAD10 CCDDC two people/2 people What"s up camping Care to snakesscared stiff in the mountains care for Poisonousones like can you or not how loud screamCBDAC CBADA DCBBA新视野大学英语第二版第二册答案(八): 新视野大学英语1(第二版)读写教程答案4-5单元的新视野大学英语(第二版)第1册Unit 4答案VocabularyIII.1. conscious2. depressed3. ranges4. impressed5. encounter6. introduction7. match8. physical9. relaxed 10.contactIV.1. are committed to2. takes…se riously3. was absorbed in4. focus on5. made up his mind6. driving me crazy7. ranging from… to8. at her best9. Unit 1An impressive English lesson1 If I am the only parent who still corrects his child's English, then perhaps my son is right. To him, I am a tedious oddity: a father he is obliged to listen to and a man absorbed in the rules of grammar, which my son seems allergic to.2 I think I got serious about this only recently when I ran into one of my former students, fresh from an excursion to Europe. "How was it?" I asked, full of earnest anticipation.3 She nodded three or four times, searched the heavens for the right words, and then exclaimed, "It was, like, whoa!"4 And that was it. The civilization of Greece and the glory of Roman architecture were captured in a condensed non-statement. My student's "whoa!" was exceeded only by my head-shaking distress.5 There are many different stories about the downturn in the proper use of English. Surely students should be able to distinguish between their/there/they're or the distinctive difference between complimentary and complementary. They unfairly bear the bulk of the criticism for these knowledge deficits because there is a sense that they should know better.6 Students are not dumb, but they are being misled everywhere they look and listen. For example, signs in grocery stores point them to the stationary, even though the actual stationery items — pads, albums and notebooks —are not nailed down. Friends and loved ones often proclaim they've just ate when, in fact, they've just eaten. Therefore, it doesn't make any sense to criticize our students.7 Blame for the scandal of this language deficit should be thrust upon our schools, which should be setting high standards of English language proficiency. Instead, they only teach a little grammar and even less advanced vocabulary. Moreover, the younger teachers themselves evidently have little knowledge of these vital structures of language because they also went without exposure to them. Schools fail to adequately teach the essential framework of language, accurate grammar and proper vocabulary, while they should take the responsibility of pushing the young onto the path of competent communication.8 Since grammar is boring to most of the young students, I think that it must be handled delicately, step by step. The chance came when one day I was driving with my son. As we set out on our trip, he noticed a bird in jerky flight and said, "It's flying so unsteady." I carefully asked, "My son, how is the bird flying?" "What's wrong? Did I say anything incorrectly?" He got lost. "Great! You said incorrectly instead of incorrect. We use adverbs to describe verbs. Therefore, it's flying so unsteadily but not so unsteady."9 Curious about my correction, he asked me what an adverb was. Slowly, I said, "It's a word that tells you something about a verb." It led to his asking me what a verb was. I explained, "Verbs are action words; for example, Dad drives the truck. Drive is the verb because it's the thing Dad is doing."10 He became attracted to the idea of action words, so we listed a few more: fly, swim, dive, run. Then, out of his own curiosity, he asked me if other words had names for their use and functions. This led to a discussion of nouns, adjectives, and articles. Within the span of a 10-minute drive, he had learned from scratch to the major parts of speech in asentence. It was painless learning and great fun!11 Perhaps, language should be looked upon as a road map and a valuable possession: often study the road map (check grammar) and tune up the car engine (adjust vocabulary). Learning grammar and a good vocabulary is just like driving with a road map in a well-conditioned car.12 The road map provides the framework and guidance you need for your trip, but it won't tell you exactly what trees or flowers you will see, what kind of people you will encounter, or what types of feelings you will be experiencing on your journey. Here, the vocabulary makes the journey's true colors come alive! A good vocabulary enables you to enjoy whatever you see as you drive along. Equipped with grammar and a good vocabulary, you have flexibility and excellent control. While the road map guides your journey to your destination, an excellent vehicle helps you to fully enjoy all of the sights, sounds and experiences along the way.13 Effective, precise, and beneficial communication depends upon grammar and a good vocabulary, the two essential assets for students, but they are not being taught in schools.14 Just this morning, my son and I were eating breakfast when I attempted to add milk to my tea. "Dad," he said, "If I were you, I wouldn't do that. It's sour."15 "Oh my!" I said, swelling with pride toward my son, "That's a grammatically perfect sentence. You used were instead of was."16 "I know, I know," he said with a long agreeable sigh. "It's the subjunctive mood."17 I was, like, whoa!Translation一堂难忘的英语课1 如果我是唯一一个还在纠正小孩英语的家长,那么我儿子也许是对的。

Pre-reading ActivitiesListen to short passage twice and answer questions① Why do you think big countries and big companies offer jobs to people from abroad?② One of your friends wants to accept a job overseas. What advice would you give him/her?③If a company hires many people from a different country, does it have any responsibilitiestoward that country? Explain your answer. Students all over the world dream of what will happen in their future. Many hope to travel abroad where they can both use their education and earn a good salary. Large modern countries like England and America welcome such graduates, making it easy for them to enter the country and easy for them to find good jobs. Are such countries being generous, or are these opportunities some kind of international crime? Are the s tudents who go overseas “lucky”, or, are they being “dad citizens”? Our first reading was written by a man from India. He discusses what happens “back home” as a developing nation’s best minds leave to look for a better life. Finally, he suggests that technology companies (who employ many of these foreign graduates) should do something to help the developing world.Answers:① Why do you think big countries and big companies offer jobs to people from abroad?Because I think they want to steal brains from the third world.② One of your friends wants to accept a job overseas. What advice would you give him/her?I will say to her: try to adapt yourself to the new environment as quickly as you can, and learn something different from ours.③If a company hires many people from a different country, does it have any responsibilitiestoward that country? Explain your answer.I think it does. Because wherever we are we should be responsible, honest, kind to people around us. Furthermore we should be responsible to our jobs no matter what it is.2.Work on Section AA) Structure of the Text ( a method of analyzing the text structure is employed)Part 1 (Paras. 1-3): A bill which designs to keep the U.S high-tech industry on top now isbefore congress.Part 2 (Paras. 4-10): During the 1960s and 1970s, a lot of students left for the lucrative shoresof England and America.Part 3 (Paras. 11-19): How does Brain Drain affect India?B) Raise some questions to make students grasp some detailed information in the text(question and answer method is used)Part I (Paras. 1-3):Questions: - What would the bill now before American Congress give?- What is the real purpose of the bill, according to the author?Answers: - The bill would give preferential treatment to foreign students with advanced degrees in science and engineering who want to work in the USA. Why?-What defeated the Indian leaders’ purposes when they want their foreign graduates to come home to fulfill their promises?Answers: - They were against it, waving the slogan “stop brain drain”.( P ara. 4)- They strongly reacted against economic imperialism. One example is that they threw Coca-Cola out and made a new brand of drink called: “thumbs up”. (para.5) - No, India didn’t close the country to the outside world, because at that time India also acquired the benefits of science and technology from advance countries.(Para.6) - The leaders failed to realized that the emphasis on science subjects at IIT could lead to students’ lack of room for social thought.(Para.10)Part III (Para. 11-19)Questions: - What is the focus of the entire education system in India now, according to the author?- How has the attitude of India’s new leaders changed from the attitudes of the 1960s?Answers: - The focus of the entire education system in India now has shifted to meet the demand of the American computer industry.- This new leadership has abandoned all talk of economic imperialism in favor of market economics.4.
