新视野大学英语(第三版)读写教程2全册答案Unit 1 Text AEx.1 Understanding the text1、Because he is tired of listening to his father and he is not interested in grammar rules.2、The civilization of Greece and the glory of Roman architecture are so marvelous and remarkable that they should be described at least in a brief account; however, what the student could do was only one single utterance :“whoa!”without any any specific comment.3、Because the schools fail to set high standards of language proficiency. They only teach a little grammar and less advanced vocabulary. And the younger teachers themselves have little knowledge of the vital structures of language.4、Because teaching grammar is not an easy job and most of the students will easily get bored if it’s not properly dealt with.5、He familiarized his son with different parts of speech in a sentence and discussed their specific grammatical functions including how to use adverbs to describe verbs.6、Because the son had never heard about the various names and functions of words in an English sentence before.7、The author uses “road map”and “car”to describe grammar and vocabulary. Here,“road map”is considered as grammar and “as vocabulary.8、Since the subjunctive mood his son used is a fairly advanced grammar structure, the interjection“whoa!”reflects the tremendous pride the father had toward his son; it also reflects the author’s humor in using the word because it was once used by his student, though in two different situations and with two different feelings.Ex.3 Words in use1.condense2.exceed3.deficit4.exposure5.asset6.adequatepetent8.adjusting9.precisely 10.beneficialEx.4 Word building-al/-ial: managerial/editorial/substance/survival/tradition/margin-cy : consistency/accuracy/efficient-y : recovery/ministry/assemblyEx.5 Word building1.editorial2.recovery3.accuracy4.substance5.managerial6.margin7.assembly8.Ministry9.survival 10.tradition 11.consistency 12.efficientEx.6 Banked cloze1-5: L C J A I 6-10: O N E H FEx.7 Expressions in use1.feel obliged to2.be serious about3.run into4.distinguish between5.thrust upon6.was allergic to7.get lost8.be attracted to9.make sense 10.looked upon asEx.8 Structured writingSome bookworms in my dormitory often spend hours reading their “Bible”, Practical English Grammar, and do a lot of exercises in that book , but I don’t care about it at all. My assumption is since I have never learned Chinese grammar, what’s the sense of learning English grammar? In fact, English grammar has always been a big headache to me.English grammar is very complicated because, unlike Chinese, there are many verb tenses. Even stranger than verb tenses, English grammar also contains something very confusing. For example, I don’t remember how many times my middle school teacher tried to“impose”the differences between used to and be used to on us. Sometimes he would go on with the explanation for 20 minutes or so. He even summarized the differences by listing three or four points for us to memorize. However, they could never stay in my head . I don’t remember how many times I got it wrong with the sentences containing used to or be used to on my exams . I was really confused with these two phrases, and I can never get them right. In brief, I’m allergic to learning English grammar. Curiously, I just wonder if the native speakers of English have a microcomputer in their brain to help them utter the two phrases promptly with just a click of their brain mouse!Ex.9 E-C Translation人们普遍认为英语是一种世界语言,经常被许多不以英语为第一语言的国家使用。

Questions 1 to 5 are based on the same passage or dialog. Whether or not vegetarianism should be advocated for adults, it is definitely unsatisfactory for growing children, who need more protein than they can get from vegetable sources. Alacto-vegetarian (part milk, part vegetable) diet, which includes milk and milk products such as cheese, can, however, be satisfactory as long as enough milk and milk products are consumed.Meat and cheese are the best sources of usable animal protein and next come milk, fish and eggs.Slow and careful cooking of meat makes it more digestible and assists in the breaking down of the protein content by the body. When cooking vegetables, however, the vitamins, and in particular the water-soluble (溶解于⽔的) Vitamin C, should not be lost through over-cooking.With fruit, vitamin loss is too small to be important, because the cooking water is normally eaten along with the fruit, and natural chemicals in the fruit help to hold in the vitamin C.Most nutrition (营养) experts today would recommend a balanced diet containing elements of all foods, largely because of our need for sufficient vitamins. Vitamins were first called "added food factors" when they were discovered in 1906. Most foods contain these other substances necessary for health, in addition to carbohydrates (碳⽔化合物), fats, minerals and water. The most common deficiency in Western diets today is lack of vitamins. The answer is variety in food. A well-balanced diet, having sufficient amounts of milk, fruit, vegetables, eggs, and meat, fish or chicken (i.e. any good protein source), usually provides the minimum daily requirement of all the vitamins.1.Vegetarianism is not suitable for growing children becausethey ________.A. need more protein than vegetables can supplyB. cannot digest vegetablesC. use more energy than adultsD. cannot easily digest milk and milk products2. 新视野大学英语读写教程(第三版)第二册课文原文及翻译
新视野大学英语第二册读写教程课文翻译Unit 1 Text A An impressive Engli lsesson标题: 一堂难忘的英语课1.
举例来说,杂货店的指示牌会把他们引向stationary(静止处),虽然便笺本、相册、和笔记本等真正的stationery(文具用品)并没有被钉在那儿。
朋友和亲人常宣称They've just ate。
实际上,他们应该说They've just eaten。

Reading Skills
As we learned in Unit 2, Book 1 and Unit 8, Book 2, it is very important to tell facts from the writer‟s opinions during the course of reading. Then what are facts? And opinions?
facts—what really happened; objective (客观的)
opinions—ideas, feelings, judgements or belief that you get from facts; subjective (主观的)

What is physical exercise? • Physical exercise is any bodily activity that enhances or maintains physical fitness and overall health and wellness

Unit 2 beat your fearSection APre-reading activities1.1T 2F 3T 4F SF2.1 Jack's problem is solved by a carpenter. He told Jack to cut the legs off the bed. And then Jack as certain that nobody was sleeping under it when he got into bed.2 The answer is open-ended. For example, you might have the fear of darkness, the fear of heights, the fear of snakes or spiders, the fear of flying, etc. Some suggestions on how to overcome fears are listed below for reference. First, you analyzed your fear and had a clear picture of what your fear was. Then you took control of your fear. You decided to expose yourself to that fear in small doses until you gained a better understanding of it. As a result, your fear began to disappear. Finally, you successfully changed the way you thought about your fear. You started seeing fear as a source of energy and embraced its role in your life.Scripts:Jack went to a doctor. "Doctor," he said, "I've got trouble. Every time I lie in bed, I think there's somebody under it. I get under the bed; then I think there's somebody on top of it. Top, under, top, under. You've got to help me! It almost drives me mad!""Just put yourself in my hands for two years," said the doctor. "Come to me three times a week, and I'll cure your fears.""How much do you charge?""A hundred dollars a visit.""I'll think about it," said Jack.Six months later the doctor met Jack by chance"Why didn't you ever come to see me again?" asked the doctor."For a hundred bucks a visit? A carpenter cured me for 10 dollars.""Is that so? How?""He told me to cut the legs off the bed!"Reading comprehensionUnderstanding the text11 Because when he once hopped from the highest diving board at the pool, he hit the water with an incredible impact and blacked out.2 No, they couldn't. Because with the water's tow, they'd never get to the drowning boy.3 Because nobody except Jason saw that going out onto the jetty, which was close to the boy, was the fastest way to reach the drowning boy.4 Because his fear of water suddenly struck him.5 He felt like he was back in that pool, breathless, struggling, terrified.6 The boy popped back up, eyes wide with terror, pawing and twisting against Jason.7 No, it wasn't. At first when Jason swam against the rip current, it was forciblydragging them out to the sea. Then he decided to swim sideways to the pull of the current and slowly made their way back to shore. Finally he made his way back to safety.8 Because Jason had already conquered his inner fear of water and he also felt relieved and delighted when he saw the boy was hugged tightly by his mother. Critical thinking21 To overcome the inner fear of water, we need to:∙conquer ourselves with courage by helping others, step up and face our fear;∙practice controlled breathing and alternately tense and relax muscle groups to bring into physical awareness the differences between beingtense and being relaxed;∙make the victim stop struggling. In this way he / she can be pulled to safety.2 The fears may come from:∙our own past experience;∙other people's fears we witness;∙someone's description about their fears;∙influence of specific cultural and historical context.3 To get a guy to ask a girl out, try giving him some pointers and ideas on how to approach the situation with confidence:∙Tell the guy to ask a girl on a casual date and see where it goes from there.Explain to him that asking a girl out face-to-face can be most appropriate,as it will show her how serious be is. However, if he thinks that is toodaring, then suggest sending her a text message or calling her on thephone.∙Encourage the guy to be assertive and not beat around the bush.Confidence is admirable, and a girl is more likely to be attracted to a manwith confidence. If he is asking the girl in person, he should speak asthough he knew she would say yes. Tell him not to hesitate and to getstraight to the point.∙Suggest that the guy give the girl some choices as to where to go on a date.If he is unsure of what activities or restaurants she enjoys most, this is agreat opportunity for him to learn more about her and show her that becares about her.4 Obsessive fear leads to anxiety, panic attacks and a variety of psychological problems. We all know what it's like to feel overwhelmed by fear, but fear, as it turns out, is a fundamental part of our lives, and has some positive effects on our lives: ∙Fear increases and enhances our sensory awareness of the environment, so that we can be prepared to protect ourselves from anything potentiallythreatening or harmful.∙Fear is an invitation to act. Fear is there to warn us that we need to get ready for the future. It isn't there to stop us; it's there to tell us that we areabout to grow.∙Fear pushes us beyond our limits. Fear motivates us. It drives us to find new resources and options within ourselves. Fear compels us to make extraefforts to succeed and achieve what we desire.∙Fear is necessary in developing our courage. We can't experience courage without the presence of fear. They go hand in hand. They need oneanother in order to exist---like darkness and light, or black and white. Intensive Study “Select breads and cereals with the words „iron-added‟ on the label,” writes sports diet expert Nancy Clark. “This is added iron supplements the small amount that naturally occurs in grains. Eat these foods with plentiful Vitamin C (for example, drink orange juice with cereal or put a tomato on a sandwich) to enhance the amount of iron absorbed.” Clark also recommends cooking in iron pans, as food can derive iron from the pan during the cooking process. “The iron content of tomato sauce cooked in an iron pot for three hours showed a striking increase, the level going up nearly 30 times,” she writes. And people who are likely to have low iron should avoid drinking coffee or tea with meals, she says, since substances in these drinks can interfere with iron being absorbed into the body.
