Our first stop at the Margaret Mitchell House is an exhibit area telling about the writer’s life. She was born in Atlanta in 1900. She started writing stories when she was a child. She started working as a reporter for the Atlanta Journal newspaper in 1922. One photograph of Ms. Mitchell, called Peggy, shows her talking to a group of young college boys. She was only about one and a half meters tall. The young men tower over her, but she seems very happy and sure of herself. The tour guide explains: “Now in this picture Peggy is interviewing some boys from Georgia Tech, asking them such questions as ‘Would you really marry a woman who works?’ And today it’d be ‘Would you marry one who doesn’t?’ ”
The Margaret Mitchell House is a building that once contained several apartments. Now we enter the first floor apartment where Ms. Mitchell lived with her husband, John Marsh. They made fun of the small apartment by calling it “The Dump”.
Around 1926, Margaret Mitchell had stopped working as a reporter and was at home healing after an injury. Her husband brought her books to read from the library. She read so many books that he bought her a typewriter and said it was time for her to write her own book. Our guide says Gone with the Wind became a huge success. Apple Inc. released the Apple Watch on March 9 in San Francisco, US., which is a simple rectangular (矩形的) shape with a range of stylish and useful wristbands. The watch will be available in nine places, including the US, the UK and China, from April 24. The starting price is $349 (2,186 yuan). With six different designs
and 30 or so wristbands, the gadget “sets the standard for smartwatches, in style,” agreed The Brisbane Times, “but more importantly, in functionality (功能性).” “With the built-in speaker and microphone, you can receive calls on your watch. I have been want ing to do this since I was 5 years old,” said Apple’s chief executive Tim Cook. In fact, anything you can do on the iPhone is there on the watch --- e-mails, text messages, airline boarding services, and directions from Apple Maps. Using a home security app, you can keep an eye on your home from a far place, or even open a locked door.
There are some features that have made Cook sure the watch is “our most personal device”. The watch taps you on the wrist to draw your attention to a message or a calendar reminder, and it can send a tap on the wrist to another Apple Watch wearer.
However, the watch can also do things that are just plain fun. You can send a real-time display of your heartbeat to another Apple Watch to “let someone know you are thinking about t hem.”
So far, though, the most impressive part of this new device is “the monitoring of the wearer’s health and fitness,” said AFP. It will even tap you on the wrist if you have been sitting down for longer than is good for your health.
24. Which of the following features of the Apple Watch are mentioned in the article?
a. its price
b. its functions
c. its shortcomings
d. its shape and weight
e. when and where people can buy it
A. abd
B. abe
C. bce
D. bde
25. With an Apple Watch, you can ______.
A. monitor your health and diagnose yourself
B. send a real-time display of your heartbeat to an iPhone
C. be reminded to move around if you’ve been sitting down for too long
D. receive emails, text messages and calls, and open a locked door for your neighbor
26. Which word best describes Tim Cook’s attitude toward the Apple Watch?
A. Proud.
B. Modest.
C. Serious.
D. Cautious.

One unexpected benefit of being a doctor is that—just because you have the title “Dr” in front of your name—scary people are nice to you. There are, of course, exceptions, and I’ve had to call security for a few difficult patients.
Unfortunately, hospital security is rather difficult to get hold of when you want it. If you park your car outside a marked parking space, they all appear together. When you’re being held against the wall by a huge drunk man, they’re nowhere to be found.
In these situations it’s usually best to call for a nurse instead. I’ve seen nurses half my size tackle(对付)men twice as big as me without even breaking a sweat. They’re also the ones who know what’s really happening on the wards(病房).Countless
times it’s the nurse who whispers the answers to the doctor when the consultant asks questions on the ward round—or who stands there silently while another doctor takes the credit(荣誉)for something they’ve done. Yet they don’t receive the respect they deserve—not from patients and certainly not from doctors.
Even so, it pays to be nice to nurses. Not only do they know where everything is and how it works, but they can give you a hand at things you can’t manage.
A few weeks ago, walking through Accident&Emergency, I suddenly found myself cornered by Mr. Ellis.
“I’ve been waiting hours. I want someone to see me now,”he shouted as he pushed his face into mine. I tried to comfort him, but he got more and more irate(生气的)and grabbed me by the tie. Then Andrea appeared. She’s only five feet tall, but she took him firmly by the hand. “How dare you behave like that to a doctor,” she shouted and marched him off.
Twenty minutes later she returned. “I think he’s calmed down enough now for you to see him,” she said.
Mr. Ellis was sitting quietly in a room. “Sorry doctor, didn’t mean to be rude. Just don’t like hospitals and was getting myself worked up.”Amazed at the transformation, I assessed him. As I was about to leave, he said, “Say thanks to that nurse for me, won’t you? She was cool. Respect is due.”I couldn’t agree more.
27.What does the author think of hospital security?
A.It is always ready to help.
B. It is difficult to deal with.
C.It is full of scary people.
D. It needs improving.
28.The nurses in the hospital seem to ________.
A.receive enough respect from doctors
B.think little of personal benefits
C.be great at dealing with tough patients
D.like whispering at work
29.The author considers it necessary to be friendly to nurses because ________.
A.they are helpful
B.they know everything
C.they are good at management
D.they offer help without payment
30.We can infer from the last paragraph that ________.
A.Mr. Ellis was ashamed of his behavior towards Andrea
B.Mr. Ellis greatly appreciated Andrea
C.the author helped Andrea win the respect of Mr. Ellis
D.the author taught Mr. Ellis a lesson
