There are only a few minutes before the test and you don’t know what to do. You just have to pass it, but how? You didn’t even open the book the night before and you hear a voice in your head saying “Cheat, cheat ...” So what are you going to do, ignore it and fail or go for it? It’s a tough decision many students must make.
Most young people believe that cheating is wrong. However, they have cheated at least once in their high school years. So, why do they do it? Are they too lazy to study? Perhaps, it’s not as simple as that. According to some experts, one main reason why students cheat is that they see their friends get away with it. It’s an easy way out. They avoid embarrassment and their parents’ anger for no t doing well in an exam. Another reason is that students think it’s OK to cheat if the subject isn’t important for their future career. What’s more, most students have to put up with the pressure of getting into university. They need to get good marks to carry on with their studies. This means that there will always be students who will do anything for a better mark.
It has never been easier to cheat than it is today. With all the technology available, students needn’t cheat by looking over their shoulde rs anymore. They use mobile phones to send answers to each other during a test. There is also the Internet. With hundreds of websites, students don’t have to worry because they can find lots of material which they can copy and use in projects. There are even tips on the art of cheating in exams.
Obviously, if you get caught cheating, you fail the exam or the subject. But it doesn’t really matter whether you get caught or not. What’s important is that it’s wrong. You mustn’t cheat because cheating is a lie. It deceives people into thinking you know more than you actually do. How can you be proud of something you have achieved through cheating? In the end, it’s not about deceiving your teachers and your parents, but about fooling yourself that you can do something you really can’t.

Do you remember the man who contributed a lot to the understanding of British and American English? Noah Webster, born on October 16, 1758, is known for The American Dictionary of the English Language. He has been called the “Father of American Scholarship and Education”. His “Blue-Backed Speller” books were used to teach spelling and reading to five generations of American children. But how much do you know about him beyond that?
At the age of 16, Noah Webster began attending Yale College. Unfortunately, he spent his four years at Yale during the American Revolutionary War, and, because of food shortages, many of his college classes were held in Glastonbury, Connecticut. Later, he served in the army.
Having graduated from Yale in 1778, Webster wanted to continue his education in order to earn his law degree. He had to teach school in order to pay for his education. He set up many small schools that didn't survive, but he was a good teacher because instead of forcing his students to learn, like most teachers did, he rewarded them.
He earned his law degree in 1781, but did not practice law until 1789. Once he started he found the law was not to his liking. Webster did not have much money.
In 1793, Alexander Hamilton lent him $1500 to move to New York City to edit a newspaper. In December, he founded New York 's first daily newspaper, American Minerva, and edited it for four years. For decades, he published textbooks, political essays, a report on some diseases, and newspaper articles for his party, He wrote so much that a modern list of his published works required 655 pages .
Noah Webster died on May 28, 1843 and was buried in the Grove Street Cemetery.

(Reuters)—A Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 was reported to have been missing near the Vietnamese coast on Saturday, having 227 passengers and 12 crew on board, and European officials said two people on board were using false identities.
There were no reports of bad weather and no sign of why the Boeing 777-200ER would have vanished from radar screens about an hour after it took off from Kuala Lumpur for Beijing.
“We are not ruling out any possibilities,” Malaysia Airlines CEO Ahmad Jauhari Yahya told a news conference.
By the early hours of Sunday, there were no confirmed signs of the plane or any wreckage, well over 24 hours after it went missing. Operations will continue through the night, officials said.
There were no indications of sabotage (蓄意破坏) nor claims of an attack. But the passenger list issued by the airline included the names of two Europeans—Austrian Christian Kozel and Italian Luigi Maraldi—who, according to their foreign ministries, were not in fact on the plane.
The foreign ministry spokesman in Vienna said: “Our embassy got the information that there was an Austrian on board. That was the passenger list from Malaysia Airlines. Our system came back with a note that this is a stolen passport.”
“Austrian police had found the man safe at home. The passport was stolen two years ago while he was travelling in Thailand,” the spokesman said.
The foreign ministry in Rome said no Italian was on the plane either, despite the inclusion of Maral di’s name on the list. His mother, Renata Lucchi, told Reuters his passport was lost, presumed stolen, in Thailand in 2013.
The U.S. and European security officials said that there was no proof of any terrorist link and there could be other explanations for the use of stolen passports.
46. What was Ahmad Jauhari Yahya’s attitude?
A. Confident.
B. Uncertain.
C. Negative.
D. Positive.
47. According to the passage, the foreign ministry spokesman in Vienna had made sure ______.

B. two passports had been stolen by two Europeans

48. Which of the following is true about Maraldi?
A. His passport was lost in Thailand
B. He was from Austria.
C. He was found safe at home.
D. His mother was sad when she saw his name on the list.
49. Who should be responsible for the missing of the plane according to the passage?
A. Christian Kozel and Luigi Maraldi.
B. Terrorists.
C. The two people using false identities.
D. We are not sure.
50. Where could this passage most likely be found?
A. In a novel.
B. In the newspaper.
C. In a fashion magazine.
D. In a travel brochure.

The Spring Festival, which starts in February this year, is the most important festival for Chinese people as most of them drop any business at hand to go back to their hometown to see their families. It is a tradition that has been cherished since ancient times, but as social mobility increases in modern times, the road to family reunions has become very uneasy.
It is not the higher travel costs, nor the expected big spending on gifts and other festival items, but the train ticket that has driven many travelers mad. I’ve heard some colleagues complain that they have tried every means to secure a train ticket, only to find it a mission impossible. Some of them have turned to the latest software to aid online booking; others have sought help from friends to increase the possibility of successful booking.
No doubt Chunyun, the Spring Festival travel season, is the largest-scale annual human migration in the world. Last year, 220 million passengers traveled by train during the Spring Festival season, which usually lasts 40 days. It is a huge jump from 10 years ago, when the number was 128 million.
With the big sudden increase in demand, the railway company has increased investment in railway construction; still, it cannot bridge the supply gap, leading to fierce public complaints and criticism.
Admittedly, it is almost impossible for the railway company to suddenly improve its capacity to meet the explosive demand during the Spring Festival holiday. Moreover, any temporary increase in capacity would become unnecessary after the holiday and mean great commercial losses during the off season.
What the company can reasonably do is gradually improve its capacity while focusing on better distribution of its existing resources during the special peak season. At any rate, however, the problem cannot be solved overnight.
51. Compared with ten years ago, the percentage of passengers last year increased by________.
A. 83%
B. 40%
C. 58%
D. 71%
52. Which of the following does the author probably agree with?
A. People nowadays cherish reunion with their families more than before.
B. Social mobility in modern times hasn’t changed much in these years.
C. The latest software may increase the possibility of successful booking.
D. Higher travel costs discourage travelers from reunions with families.
53. Which word can be used to best describe the way to solve the problem only by increasing capacity?
A. Impractical
B. Expensive
C. Effective
D. Hopeful
54. Which of the following is NOT RIGHT according to the passage?
A. The Spring Festival travel season can last more than 40 days.
B. Next year the railway company will temporarily improve its capacity to meet the demand during Chunyun.
C. The public are not satisfied with the situation and complain much.
D. Most people still have problems booking a train ticket during Chunyun.
55. What’s the tone of the whole passage? A. Critical. B. Optimistic. C. Objective. D. Subjective. 第三节:补全对话(共5小题,每小题1分,满分5分)

Dear Chris,
How is it going? It has been three months since you came to China. I am sorry to hear that you aren't on good terms with your classmates. It is lack of social skills that accounts for the problem. Don’t worry! I can give you some advice on how to get on well with others in China.
First of all, you are supposed to prepare some safe topics or openers for the small talk. Talking about your favorite stars or movies with others is a good bet. Do avoid serious topics or personal questions. Secondly, communication is a two-way process, involving speaking and listening. It is best to listen to others while they are talking, which makes the speakers feel important and respected. Last but not least, as the old saying goes, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do!”Therefore, you’d better learn about the social rules and do as we Chinese do to shorten the culture gap.
I hope my advice will help you. And I am sure that you will get along well with your classmates in a short time.
I wish everything went well with you.。
