Today everyone uses money to buy food, furniture, books, cars and hundreds of other things, even services that they need or want. When they work, they usually get paid with money.
Most of the money today is made of metal or paper, but people used all kinds of things as money in the past. One of the first kinds of money was the shell.
Shells were not the only things used as money either. In China, cloth and knives were also used. In the Philippine Islands, rice was used as money. In parts of Africa, cattle were one of the earliest kinds of money. Other animals were used as money, too.
The first metal coins were made in China. They were round and had a square hole in the center. So people could put them together with a thin rope and carry them from place to place. Different countries have used different metals and designs for their money. The first coins in England were made of tin. Sweden and Russia used copper to make their money. Later, other countries began to make coins from gold and silver.
But even gold and silver were inconvenient (不方便的) if you had to buy something expensive. Again, Chinese people thought of a way to improve money. They began to use paper
money. The first paper money looked more like a note from one person to another than paper money used today.
Money has had an interesting history from the days of shell money until today.

Canada is the second largest country in the world. It has French and English as its official languages. Its population is slightly over 30 million and Ottawa is the capital.
Canada is 5500 kilometers from coast to coast and it covers six time zones. When you are in Canada, you can see Rocky Mountains, numerous lakes and wide rivers, beautiful forests, as well as some famous cities, such as Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. However, in climate, there exists a sharp difference. The northern part of the country has a long and chilly winter, while the west coastal region has a warm one. In addition, Canada is rich in natural resources, such as fresh water, forests and fishery.
In my eyes, in Canada you can not only see some great scenery, such as the great Niagara Falls, the CN Tower, but also enjoy a mixture of many cultures and races. I am sure you will have a good time when you study there.。
