文章主要记述了四名记者首次参观Tesla公司的电动卡车后的不同感受。
13. Back in September, I took a small team from Motor Trend to see the Tesla Cybertruck. Tesla told us that we were the first outsiders, and the only newspaper to see the vehicle. So it’s fun for me to disclose how some of us reacted after seeing it for the first time.
Christian Seabaugh, Kim Reynolds, Mark Williams, Sean Holman, and I spent hours with the Tesla’s design team on a warm Friday afternoon, at Tesla’s design studio in Hawthorne, California.
When we left the studio and walked back to our car at the parking lot, everyone was quiet, lost in thought. We remained absolutely silent until we pulled out onto a busy street and saw regular cars and trucks, in traffic.
I was the first one to break the ice, “Can you imagine how crazy it will look when that truck is on the road, with regular cars?”
And with that, my colleagues unburdened themselves. Here are some choice thoughts.
“As a traditional truck person, I was dumbstruck when I walked in. What is that? Origami? A military vehicle or SUV? I wonder how will you see out of it? Wait, where’s the bed? I am still too surprised to think. I need a shower, a cigarette or a nap, in no particular order,” said Sean Holman.
“My first thought after entering the design studio was that the only thing missing in the space was anything remotely looking like what I would consider a Tesla truck. Nothing else but the military-styled video game concept in the center of the floor, “ said Mark Williams.
“I’m impressed by how far Tesla was willing to go away from their existing design language. It is a high-risk design. It will dominate the conversation when it appears, and get good presale orders, but I wonder for how long?” said Kim Reynolds.
”When I first looked at the Tesla truck, my first thought was that I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Are they images!? Wow, it’s really beautiful,“ said Christian Seabaugh.
What is your reaction to Tesla’s Cybertruck? Love it? Hate it? Will you buy it?

A.Shocked.B.Scared.C.Worried D.Excited.
2. What does the Tesla Cybertruck most probably look like?
A.An ugly toy.B.A military car.
C.A traditional truck.D.A foldable bed.

C.My First Visit to Tesla’s Design Studio D.The Design Problems With Cybertruck
文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了几种重新引入到野外的野生动物,以野生河狸为例说明了重新被引入到野外的野生动物状况良好,并介绍了其对环境发展的促进作用。
14. Wild beavers (河狸) are back! Experts say that the wild beaver families are doing well. The beavers are even boosting wildlife and the environment!
Over ten years ago, a family of beavers turned up in a part of the river Otter, in Devon. No one knew exactly where they came from. It was a big surprise wild beavers hadn’t lived in England for around 400 years!
In 2015, the government allowed the beavers to stay there as part of a test. They wanted to see if these animals could be reintroduced to the wild. The test ends in February. Some scientists from the University of Exeter already say the beavers help the wildlife in the area. One scientist called it “an amazing story”.
A lot of this is because of dams (水坝). Beavers build dams along the river. This creates deep pools in the riverbed and slows the water down.
Scientists say this is perfect for many different types of plants and animals! Many plants are growing near the beavers. Different types of animals are also becoming more and more in the river. Beavers also help make flooding less, scientists say. The beavers’ dams slow down the speed of the river, especially after heavy rain.
Beavers aren’t the only animals that are being reintroduced to the wild! In 2019, red squirrels were brought back to an area of the Scottish Highlands. Further away, the world's rarest (罕见的) duck, the Madagascar pochard, is making a comeback. It was set free into the wild on the African island in 2019 and is doing well.
Who knows what other animals might be making a comeback?

A.building B.spreading C.helping D.creating
2. Why did the government want a test first?
A.To reintroduce animals to the wild.
B.To introduce the beavers to the wild.
C.To build dams for the beavers in the river.
D.To grow more different plants along the river.
3. What can we know about the wild beavers?
A.They help plants grow.B.They eat up the plants.
C.They do harm to animals.D.They bring heavy floods.
4. How many kinds of animals have been reintroduced to the wild besides beavers?
A.One.B.Two.C.Three.D.Four.

文章主要讲述了Cameron为了帮助失去了一只手的朋友Roger,为他设计并制造出了可以由电脑控制的机械手。
15. In elementary school, Glenn Cameron was very aware of the challenges faced by his friend, Roger, who was missing a hand. Now he has built an artificial helper for him.
The robotic hand is called “Dexi”. Its each finger can move independently. The strength and speed of the hand’s “muscles” can be controlled. The fingers stop closing when they come across something, allowing the hand to shake hands, for example. He’s also created a digital version of this hand, which responds on a computer screen. The system considered unusual by experts is that it takes electrical signals from a human brain and sends them to a computer. Cameron managed to apply the brain interface (接口) after hundreds of experiments. Wearing a special headset, he can open and close the robotic hand just by thinking. To make the hand close, he “sees” a fist in his head. To open the hand, he thinks about the beep (嘟嘟声).
In fact, Cameron’s first robotic hand was 3D printed from an online robot kit. Realizing the hand was too limited, he decided to build his own. It was quite a challenge, but his new version was better. It’s also cheap, compared to many other robotic hand projects. Mr. Cameron says designing and building the hand is hard and finds programming computers easier. Then came the one Roger is using.
Cameron is working on a hand that can actually be used by a person who’s lost a hand at present. He says the new hand will be simpler, because there won’t be as much space. To make up for this, he’s adding a mini camera and trying to make the hand smarter. He wants to let users think of a task and have the hand do it automatically.
Cameron encourages young people who think they might want to do something demanding and similar: “You just begin working towards it, taking one little step at a time, purposeful and determined, sooner or later you’re going to get to where you long for.”
1. What’s the most special about the robotic hand Roger uses?
A.The mini camera.B.Controllable muscles.
C.3D printing.D.The brain interface.
2. Which version of the artificial hand does Dexi belong to?
A.The first.B.The second.C.The third.D.The fourth.
3. Which saying do Cameron’s words convey?
A.Well begun is half done.
B.Nothing is impossible to a willing heart.
C.All things are difficult before they are easy.
D.The longest journey begins with the first step.
4. What is the text mainly about?
A.Cameron’s road to success.B.A robotic helper for the disabled.
C.Cameron’s latest artificial hand design.D.The evolution of Cameron’s robotic hands.

八、书面表达
18. 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
In 1989, fresh out of high school, I had the difficult task of choosing a career path before college started in three months. In those days in Pakistan, there were limited choices: becoming a doctor or an engineer, or entering the financial world after getting a business degree. I wasn’t interested in engineering, so that I was left with medicine or business. I couldn’t decide.
My uncle suggested that I do a work placement(实习) to experience it for a month in an international company followed by a month in a hospital.
After that, I could make a decision. It seemed like a good idea.
I was accepted for a month’s placement at a foreign bank in Karachi. I got a feel of how the world of finance functioned, made new friends, and
generally enjoyed the mostly easyg oing work surroundings.
The month passed rapidly, and soon I began working at a leading hospital in Karachi. The experience couldn’t have been more different. The hospital had a stressful environment. The days started early (at 7 am, compared to 9 am at the bank), and were filled with endless duties. And the night calls! This was crazy, working all day, through the night, and again the next day.
I began thinking about my two experiences. The bank had offered a more relaxing atmosphere, better working hours and less stress. The hospital was full of excitement, but studying and training were difficult. It seemed that the business choice was going to win out.
Near the end of my month at the hospital, I was driving home after an especially busy night call. In front of me was a public bus, with college students sitting on the top. As the driver weaved through (穿梭) traffic, I could see the boys shaking from side to side.
