Robots have been around so the idea itself is not new. But what is different from the robots now being made in labs from United States to Japan is how life-like (栩栩如生) they have become.
Take for instance “Jia Jia” a robot that is created by researchers at a university in China. She has pink cheeks and flowing hair. She moves her eyes in a life-like way and her lips movements in sync (co-ordinated) with her speech. Jia Jia can also move independently and make small movements when she speaks and listens, just like humans.
Not all look like huma ns. Take for instance “pepper”, a robot developed by a company called Soft bank Robotics. Pepper will soon be seen on trains in France to help travelers. Some of the new robots have their own personality.
The Einstein robot which will go on sale this year, not only looks like the famous scientist, but is also smart enough to help kids with homework and answer questions about math and science.
Another robot called “Kuri” meant for the home market entertain (怀抱) children and inform a parent working at an office when a child returns from school. Kuri can also keep an eye on thins at home when you are not there and even order the dog to get off the sofa. Users can control Kuri through a smartphone.

Friendship Day is celebrated every year on the first Sunday in the month of August. People give their loved ones or friends friendship bracelets (手环) and other gifts to celebrate their friendship. The culture of friendship bracelets is as old as even thousands of years.
