It has been seen as a hi-tech bike-sharing boom that entrepreneurs hope will make them rich while transforming China's traffic-jammed cities.
But, occasionally, dreams can turn less pleasant. In the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen, more than 500 bicycles for hire have been found dumped in huge piles on the streets,
according to reports. Pictures showed vehicles nearly three metres high, with small parts on the ground. City streets around the country have seen an explosion of the colourful bikes that users can rent on demand with a smartphone app and then park wherever they choose.
The sharing economy is taking off in China, where ride-sharing and Airbnb are increasingly commonplace. From Shanghai to Sichuan province, bike-sharing are being started in an effort to reduce traffic jam and air pollution by putting a country once known as the "Kingdom of Bicycles" back on two wheels.
Companies such as Ofo and Mobike, with their yellow and orange bikes, have been in a cut-throat battle for customers. But problems have arisen when clients have abandoned their cycles. "Some people these days just have really bad character," a man named He, who lives near where t he piles appeared, told the Southern Metropolis Daily.” When they're done using (the bike) they just throw it away somewhere, because they've already paid. Residents told the paper that bikes had been piling up over the past week, either parked randomly by careless users or piled by local security guards trying to clear narrow residential alleys and footpaths.
Zhuang Chuangyu, a representative at Shenzhen's municipal people's congress, said the city needed to step up regulation of the bike-sharing industry in order to improve traffic conditions and safety standards, especially since schoolchildren often used the bikes.
In 1980, almost 63% of commuters cycled to work, the Beijing Morning Post reported in 2015, citing government data. But by 2000 that number had decreased to 38% and today it stands at less than 12%. Car use, meanwhile, has rocketed. In 2010 China overtook the US to become the world's largest car market, with 13.5m vehicles sold in just 12 months.
24. Why can we say bike-sharing in China is a boom?
A. Because entrepreneurs will become rich because of it.
B. Because it will transform China's traffic-jammed cities.
C .Because vehicles are nearly three metres high.
D. Because city streets have seen an increase of it.
25. What is mentioned about the sharing economy?
A. It refers to smartphones and apps.
B. Airbnb has been a common thing.
C. China has taken a step in it.
D. It is widespread across China.
26. What do we know about Ofo and Mobike?
A. They are yellow and orange bikes.
B. They are in competition with each other.
C. They cause the clients to abandon their cycles.
D. They have really bad character.
27. Which of the following may the author agree with?
A. Careless users and local guards are to blame for the piling bikes.
B. Regulations should be strict for schoolchildren.
C. Many users lack proper behavior in using the bikes.
D. China overtook the US becoming back on two wheels.

One of the unpleasant aspects of being a manager is that you have to deal with employees who engage in violating company policies. Some typical disciplinary actions will be done such as reassignment or even firing. Too light, and they will not sufficiently communicate the severity of the infraction(违规行为), both to the employee who broke the rules and to the peers who are watching. Too heavy, and you create an unfair environment that violates everyone’s expectations for justice.
We all want to believe that we are fair, and that we would be objective. However, there’s an important factor that could undermine your ability to be fair: sleep. My colleagues —Kyoungmin Cho at the University of Washington and Cristiano Guarana at the University of Virginia —and I wanted to investigate this link. My previous research indicates that lack of sleep damages judgment and behavior. And the research literature indicates that lack of sleep leads to errors in decision making. As I discuss in my TEDx talk, sleep-lacking people are not efficient without even being aware that.
My colleagues and I started our research based on that lack of sleep can increase negative responses to the infraction. Sleep-lacking people are more likely to interpret an action in a negative manner. This suggests that peo ple will conduct infractions more negatively when they’re sleep-lacking. In addition, lack of sleep makes it more difficult to regulate negative emotions. This can make people more likely to become angry, making them in turn more likely to respond negatively to people who engage in punishable behaviors. We assume that sleep-lacking people would be more likely to give harsher punishments.
Based on this finding, our advice to managers is to be aware of this potential effect on your judgment. If a staff engages in a punishable infraction after you’ve had a short night of sleep, you may allocate a punishment that is harsher than necessary, contributing to an unfair work environment.
Two potential ways to address this would be to either delay deciding on a disciplinary measure until you have had a better night of sleep or deliberately discount the measure to soften the effect of your lack of sleep. Given the difficulty of measuring the second approach, the first approach is probably the better o ption. And it bears repeating: If you want to be a better manager, aim to get at least eight hours of sleep each night.
28. What does the author say about disciplinary actions?
A. Employees should be fired.
B. Bonuses will be removed.
C. Severe rules should be performed.
D. It is hard to balance the punishments.
29. The underlined word “undermine” is closest in meaning to _____.
A. change
B. influence
C. determine
D. weaken
30. What would a sleepy manager do?
A. Realize the side effect of it and take actions.
B. Throw more severe punishment.
C. Get rid of the negative atmosphere in the company.
D. Regulate the negative emotions.
31. Which of the following statements is true according to the text?
A. A good sleep leads to a fair environment.
B. Unfair work environment is due to weak punishments.
C. It is necessary to give punishments after a good sleep.
D. Eight hours of sleep each night is the bottom line.

“There’s a mistake. ‘Moonlight,’ you guys won best picture.”
And with those words, p roducer Jordan Horowitz of “La La Land,” told the cast and crew of a competing film that it had won the Oscars’ biggest award. Presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway were given the wrong category’s envelope before they went on stage.
Beatty was clearly confused about what he saw when he opened the envelope, but Dunaway read the name of the film listed below Stone’s name. The actors and producers from “La La Land” left their seats and filled the stage to accept their Oscar statues. They gave many speeche s before Horowitz interrupted. “This is not a joke. Moonlight has won best picture,” he said. He took the card from Beatty and held it up for the cameras. “Moonlight. Best Picture,” he said as the camera m oved closer.
The show’s host, Jimmy Kimmel, made t he best of the situation. He went up to Beatty, and exclaimed “Warren. What did you do?” Kimmel also said, “Personally, I blame Steve Harvey.”That was in reference to the mistake Harvey made in 2015 at the Miss Universe pageant. He announced the wrong winner, first saying it was the contestant from Colombia, and then realizing the correct winner was actually from the Philippines.
Once order had been restored, Beatty tried to explain what happened, saying he had been given the wrong envelope. Barry Jenkins i s the writer and director of “Moonlight.” Once he reached the stage, he said “even in my dreams, this cannot be true.” Stone, happy to have won the best actress award, later said “is that the craziest Oscar moment of all time? Cool!”
Many people are wondering how the mistake was made. The accounting firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers has been handling Oscar votes for over 80 years without any problems. The firm
apologized to all of the people who were made uncomfortable by the mistake. It promised to investigate what caused the error.
Horowitz is being credited for staying calm and stopping the show to correct the error. People are calling him “gracious,” “a great producer,” and “classy.” Even Jenkins said “much respect to that dude.”
32. What can we know from the words of Horowitz?
A. La La Land won the best picture.
B. Beatty and Dunaway made a mistake.

A. Beatty made the mistake.
B. Barry Jenkins suspected the result.
C. The fault is due to Pricewaterhouse Coopers.
D. Horowitz is being respected for his reaction.
35. The best title of the text should be _____.
A. Who made the mistake?

C. A mix-up in the Academy Award.
D. Pricewaterhouse takes the responsibility.
