第二部分阅读理解(满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

21.(6分)Relieving poverty has been one of our government’s top concerns for the past decades. Poverty(贫困) in remote areas in China is virtually a great obstacle for the Chinese to get common progress; thus, it is urgent for us to
help the people there to shake off poverty the sooner the better. For this aim, the government has already sent technicians and experts to poverty-stricken areas to help boost local agricultural production and teach the locals new techniques. The Ministry of Labor has also trained many rural laborers through different programs. But all these are not enough. Several other ways have been proposed as follows.
First of all, the government should encourage a small part of the people in the remote areas to get wealthy ahead of others by equipping them with relevant funds and agricultural technology. These “better-offs” can not only set a good example but give confidence to the poorer in their efforts to get rid of poverty. When all the people get rich, the general level of living standard can be greatly improved. With their living standard improved, they can attach greater importance to environmental protection and are willing to input considerable amount of money to educate their children. Only in this way is a sustainable development guaranteed.
Secondly, we must call upon people in all walks of life throughout the country, especially those wealthy citizens in coastal areas to help those struggling below poverty line in poor remote regions out. We must realize that only after all Chinese people live a comfortable life can we be peacefully enjoying material prosperity in life. Helps can come in various forms----donating money to the poor family and books to school drop-outs, college graduates volunteering to work in the most needed regions, bringing knowledge to them, etc.
The last but not the least, the government should raise the rate of tax on the rich. This can shorten the gap between the poor and the rich as well as benefit the country’s revenues(财政收入) whose better part is in turn allocated to the poor remote areas.
Admittedly, it is never easy to cast off the shadow of poverty in the remote areas completely in the short run. But every one of us should go all out to help those in poverty, we are confident that our country will be more powerful and prosperous in the process of relieving poverty.
1、What does the underlined “shake off” in paragraph 1 mean?
A.get rid of B.set off C.die off D.put off
2、How many ways are introduced to relieve the poverty according to the text?
A.three B.four C.five D.six
3、What is the best title for the text?
A.Blocks to the Progress and Development of China
B.Approaches to Raising the Rate of Tax on the Rich
C.Reasons to Relieve Poverty in Remote Areas in China
D.Suggestions to Relieve Poverty in Remote Areas in China
4、How does the author organize the text?
A.by comparison B.by listing C.by definition D.by contrast
22.(8分)When you’re a junior in high school, three little letters quickly become larger than life: SAT.
At the start of my junior year, I realized that the environment was packed with competition. Surprisingly, this pressure didn’t come from adults. It came from the other students. Everyone in my grade had college on the brain. To get into the college of our choice, we all believed, we had to outcompete and outscore everyone else with less sleep, because time for sleeping was time you didn’t spend studying for the SAT.
I let myself get swept up in the pressure. My new motto was, if I wasn’t in every single honor level class, I wasn’t doing enough. I was bad-tempered and I couldn’t focus. I stopped talking to my friends and my mom, and I couldn’t figure out who I was. I didn’t have the confidence to know that my own passions and unique skills were what would make me stand out to colleges.
That’s when I realized: I am not my SAT score. Trying to stick to what I thought colleges wanted masked who I really am. I decided to rely on my strengths and get away from the crazy pressure I was putting on myself.
Instead of forcing myself into higher levels of math, I took on an extra history class. I learned how to love what I was doing and not what I thought I was supposed to do. I learned to shine as an individual, not a faceless member of the crowd. And I found that not only was this better for my happiness, but it also made me more effective and efficient when I studied.
To me, individuality means having the confidence to decide who I am and who I want to be, and a number on a page is never going to change that. I am more sure of myself, and more ready to apply for college, than ever.
1、At the start of the junior year, the author decided to study for the SAT ________.
A.to overcome the pressure from other high school students
B.to test how good she was at studying compared to others
C.because it was exciting to compete with others to get into college
D.because she was eager to get an advantage over others in the competition
2、When did the author realize she shouldn’t just compete for scores?
A.When she got in every single honor level class.
B.When everybody stopped talking to her.
C.When she found she was no longer her usual self.
D.When she forced herself to take advanced maths.
3、What can you infer from Paragraph 5?
A.She tried to live as who she was, not just a student focusing on grades.
B.She learned to team up with others and so gained efficiency.
C.She managed to do well in both maths and history classes.
D.She wanted to be number one and no one could change her mind.
4、Which statement best expresses the main idea of the passage?
A.Pressure brings out the best in you.
B.Y ou will stand out by being your best self.
C.Things will happen whether you like it or not.
D.Life is just a matter of decisive times.
23.(8分)I am a strong believer that if a child is raised with approval, he will learn to love himself and will be successful in his own way.
Several weeks ago, I was doing homework with my son in the third grade and he kept standing up from his chair to go over the math lines. I kept asking him to sit down, telling him that he should concentrate better. He sat but seconds later, as if he didn’t even notice he was doing it, he got up again. I was getting fr ustrated, but then it hit me. I started noticing his answers were much quicker and accurate when he stood up. Could he be more intent while standing up?
This made me start questioning myself and what I had been raised to believe. I was raised to believe that a quiet, calm child was a sure way to success. This child would have the discipline to study hard, get good grades and become someone important in life.
Now those same people perhaps come to realize that their kids are born with their own sets of DNA and personality traits, and all you can do is loving and accepting them. As parents, throughout their growing years and beyond that, we need to be our kids’ best cheerleaders, guiding them and helping them find their way.
I have stopped asking my son to sit down and concentrate. Obviously, he is concentrating just in his own way and not mine. We need to learn to accept our kids’ ways of doing things. Some way may have worked for me but doesn’t mean we need to carry it through generations. There is nothing sweeter than being individual and unique. It makes us free and happy and that’s just the way I want my kids to live their own life.
1、At the beginning, the author tried to keep his son seated in order to make him ________.
A.finish his homework on time B.keep silent in the room

A.the old form of education B.the importance of parents
C.the relationship between kids and their parents D.the good grades of some kids
3、According to the passage, which of the following statements is RIGHT?
A.We should help kids correct their wrong ways.

C.Parents should study their kids’ DNA.
D.Kids should be taught to behave themselves.
4、Which of the following would be the best title of the passage?
A.Study Hard and You’ll Be Successful
B.Be Friendly to Your Children
C.Parents’ Help with Their Children’s Study
D.Children’s Success in Their Own Style
24.(8分)For years going home for the holidays has been bittersweet. I appreciate the opportunity to spend quality time with my mom but it is painful for me to see her house littered with stuff (物品). Clothes bought but never worn, and new items in their original packaging carelessly purchased and never used. It’s evident that seeing the stuff on a daily basis reminds my mom of a time when shopping was her way of spending money.
I didn’t fully understand the extent to which my mom was suffering until this week, whe n I saw piles of clothes on her bed, “How do you manage to sleep every night with all that stuff, Mom?” I asked. To my horror, she replied to it because I know I have to get rid of all this stuff eventually; I am punishing myself by sleeping with them until I do that.”
Shocked and upset, I gently explained to her that punishing herself was only to make things worse, and that everybody deserves a place to sleep in peace, no matter what mistakes they’ve made. I suggested she move all the stuff upstairs, leaving her room comfortable to sleep in.
With patience and her slow but steady guidance, I helped her go through some of the piles and move them upstairs. For the rest of the week I stayed there, she was in a better mood and was excited about going-through the rest of the house to finally get rid of her stuff—past mistakes and painful times. The items brought back painful memories as we inspected and moved them, but I kept reminding her that removing them would allow her to move on and heal. We finally sold so many things and took bag after bag to charity.
The stuff is just a sign of the destructive patterns of self-hatred on past mistakes. Only through the act of
self-forgiveness can we bring about a chain reaction of reorganizing— both of the house and heart.
1、What made the author feel bitter?
A.She couldn’t understand her mom’s sorrows.
B.Her mom was stuck in the painful memories.
C.Her mom was always left alone at home.

A.the author never bought her mom anything
B.the author’s mom has no money to purchase now
C.the author s mom regrets buying so many things
D.the author knows her mom’s suffering only this week
4、What’s the best title of the passage?
A.How to do shopping wisely B.The importance of self-forgiveness.
C.Keep an eye on the elderly’s behavior D.Clearance helps remove suffering
25.(10分)With its snow-covered mountains and a variety of wildlife, Yellow Stone National Park is one of the scenic treasures of the United States. Located primarily in Wyoming, the park hosts millions of visitors every year. If you plan to travel within the park, keep in mind advice from the National Park Service.
Seasonal Travel
Travel varies vastly from season to season. Roads are generally open in the summer except for cases of rock or mud slides, wild fires, accidents or road construction. Early snows in the fall can cause some roads to close temporarily. In the winter almost all roads are closed to motor vehicles, but snowmobiles and other snow vehicles with tracks are allowed. Roads begin to open for the spring by the latter part of April but can close if snowfall continues.
Driving Time
Grand Loop is the main road through Yellowstone National Park; it passes by most of the major attractions. These include Old Faithful, Y ellowstone Lake and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. The maximum speed limit on the Grand Loop is 45 miles per hour, but the speed limit drops during some of the winding and twisting sections of this narrow road. Allow yourself at least two days to fully travel the loop due to the size of the park and being sometimes stuck in heavy traffic.
Safety Awareness
Buffalo(水牛)often block the roads in the park as they move through the fields. If a group is traveling across the road you are on, you can either wait for them to pass or find an alternative route. If you get out of your vehicle, the National Park Service says to stay at least 25 yards from any buffalo (and 100 yards or more away from bears and wolves). Buffalo are particularly unpredictable and charge people at speeds up to 30 mph.
You can take your bicycle on any public roads and routes designed for bikes, but bicycles are not allowed on the park roads which are narrow with few shoulders. Altitudes range from 5, 300 to 8, 860 feet. The National Park Service
recommends cyclists wear helmets and noticeable clothing.
1、What do we know about travelling in the Yellowstone Park?
A.Roads will stay open in case of emergency.
B.Traffic jam happens from time to time.
C.The driving speed on the road can be 50 mph.
D.Motor vehicles are allowed in the winter.
2、What does the National Park Service suggest people do about safety?
A.Stay inside the car throughout the travel.
B.Get out of their vehicles when coming across the Buffalo.
C.Wear the easy-to-see clothes while bicycling.
D.Avoid bicycling on the public roads.
3、From which is the text probably taken?
A.A guidebook.
B.A commercial advertisement.
C.A research paper.
D.A geography textbook.

第二节书面表达(满分25分)
29、Dear Sir/ Madam ,
I’m Li Hua, an exchange student who will go to your school to study for a month. I am writing to inquire about the accommodation your school provides.
I prefer a dorm room with a bathroom on campus. A room on the ground floor would be better. And I don't mind sharing it with other students as it will provide me with a good chance to make new friends and learn more about the local culture. What kind of accommodation could you offer if this requirement should not be satisfied?
I would appreciate it very much if you could provide me with the relevant information. Looking forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua。
