Accuracy is an exceptional 0.01% of fullscale ± 2 counts. Resolution is one part in 20,000. In the 20 Ωrange, resolution is 1 mΩ, making the transmitter suitable forcontact resistance and conductance measurements.Transmitter connections can be via 2, 3 or 4 wires. With 4-wirehookup, 2 wires are used for excitation and two separate wiresare used to sense the voltage across the resistance to bemeasured, thereby eliminating any lead resistance effects. With3-wire hookup, the transmitter senses the combined voltage dropacross the RTD plus two excitation leads. It also senses thevoltage drop across one excitation lead, and then subtracts twicethis voltage from the combined total. This technique effectivelysubtracts the lead resistance if the excitation leads are the same. All resistance ranges are digitally calibrated at the factory, withcalibration factors stored in EEPROM on the signal conditionerboard. This allows ranges and signal conditioner boards to bechanged in the field without recalibrating the transmitter. Ifdesired, the transmitter can easily be calibrated using externalstandards plus scale and offset in software.Fast read rate at up to 50 or 60 conversions per second whileintegrating the signal over a full power line cycle is provided byConcurrent Slope (Pat 5,262,780) analog-to-digital conversion.High read rate is ideal for peak or valley capture and for real-timecomputer interface and control.Open sensor indication is standard and may be set up to indi-cate either upscale or downscale. Excitation is provided by thetransmitter.Custom curve linearization, available with the Extendedversion, makes this transmitter ideal for use with transducerswhose output is a changing resistance.Standard features of Laureate transmitters include:•4-20 mA, 0-10V or -10V to +10V analog transmitter output, isolated, jumper-selectable and user scalable. All selectionsprovide 16-bit (0.0015%) resolution of output span and 0.02%output accuracy of a reading from -99,999 to +99,999 countsthat is also transmitted digitally. Output isolation from signaland power grounds eliminates potential ground loop problems.•Serial communications output, isolated. User selectableRS232 or RS485, half or full duplex. Three protocols are userselectable: Modbus RTU, Modbus ASCII, or Laurel ASCII.Modbus operation is fully compliant with Modbus Over SerialLine Specification V1.0 (2002). The Laurel ASCII protocolallows up to 31 Laureate devices to be addressed on thesame RS485 data line. It is simpler than the Modbus protocoland is recommended when all devices are Laureates.•Dual solid state relays, isolated. Available for local alarm orcontrol. Rated 120 mA at 130 Vac or 170 Vdc.•Universal 85-264 Vac power. Low-voltage 10-48 Vdc or 12-32 Vac power is optional.Easy Transmitter programming is via Laurel's InstrumentSetup Software, which runs on a PC under MS Windows. Thissoftware can be downloaded from this website at no charge. Leave 6 mm (1/4") between transmitters, or force air with a fan.PinoutMechanicalQA Application with Relays in Passband ModeA deviation limit (50 mΩ in this example) is set uparound both sides of a setpoint. The relay closes (oropens) when the reading falls within the deviationband, and opens (or closes) when the reading fallsoutside of this band. This mode sets up a passbandaround the setpoint and can be used for contactresistance testing in a production environment.RTD HookupIn 4-wire hookup, different pairs of leads are used to apply the excitation current and sense the voltage drop across the unknown resistance, so that the IR drop across the excitation leads is not a factor. In 3-wire hookup, the transmitter senses the combined voltage drop across the unknown resistance plus two excitation leads. It also senses the voltage drop across one excitation lead, and then subtracts twice this voltage from the combined total. This technique effectively subtracts all lead resistance and compen-sates for ambient temperature changes if the two excitation leads are identical. In 2-wire hookup, the transmitter senses the combined voltage drop across the unknown resistance and both lead wires. The voltage drop across the lead wires can be measured by shorting out the resistance during transmitter setup, and this voltage is then automatically subtracted from the combined total. However, changing resistance of the lead wires due to ambient tempera-ture changes will not be compensated.Ordering GuideCreate a model a model number in this format: LT20R1Transmitter Type LT Laureate 4-20 mA & RS232/RS485 output transmitter Main Board 2 Standard Main BoardPower0 Isolated 85-264 Vac or 90-300 Vdc 1 Isolated 10-48 Vdc or 12-32 VacResistance RangeR0 0-20 ohms (factory special fixed range) R1 0-20 ohms R2 0-200 ohms R3 0-2 kohms R4 0-20 kohms R5 0-200 kohmsR6 0-2 Mohms (factory special fixed range) R7 0-20 Mohms (factory special fixed range)Note: The same signal conditioner board can be used for resistance and RTD temperature measurement.AccessoriesCBL04 RS232 cable, 7ft. IEC/UL 60950-1 Application Guideline 1.5-1STANDARD: IEC/UL 60950-1APPLICABILITY: UL(C-UL)-only (Sub)CLAUSE/ANNEX NUMBER: 1.5(Sub)CLAUSE/ANNEX HEADING: ComponentsOTHER RELEVANT (Sub)CLAUSES/ANNEXES(as Applicable): Annex PDESCRIPTION OF ISSUE: Type of Issue:Certification Sub-clause 1.5 states that where safety is involved, components shall comply with either the requirements of the Standard or with the safety aspects of the relevant component standard. What is the UL Certification Policy on acceptance of components in ITE certified by UL?APPLICATION GUIDELINE: Introduction:This UL Certification Policy is based onseveral basic premises:z ITE certified by UL will be investigatedto both U.S. and Canadian requirementsand will be marked with both the ULand cUL marks. This is a validassumption since UL 60950-1 isU.S./Canadian bi-national, and the ULITE Certification Program includes ULand cUL as a base certification serviceoffering.z A UL certification (ITE w/appropriateUL Mark) includes both application of“technical” requirements from thepublished standard, and “certification”requirements based on UL Corporatepolicy.z A “safety-critical component” – hereinidentified as a S-C Component – canrange in scope from a single deviceserving a simple function (e.g., EMIfilter) through a more complex sub-system serving multiple functions andconsisting of multiple components (e.g.,server blade sub-assembly w/embeddedpower supply).z CSA/UL 60950-1 contains twocomponent Annexes that provideguidance on the equivalency of, anddifferences between IEC, UL and CSAcomponents based on the technical requirements for the components. The information in Annexes P.1 and P.2 has been associated with the bi-national standard CSA/UL 60950-1 since its original publication in 1995 and provides key guidance on initial acceptance of components in ITE evaluated to the Standard.{S-C Components in Annex P.1are components for which theUL/CSA componentrequirements replace the IECcomponent requirements.Components designated with an“*” are designated as componentsfor which the UL and CSAstandards have equivalent levelsof safety within the meaning ofUL 60950-1. Componentsdesignated with an “**” arecomponents for which the ULand CSA components areequivalent except underconditions specified in the table(which for the most part are theexception to the rule).{S-C Components in Annex P.2are components for which theUL/CSA componentrequirements may alternativelysatisfy the IEC componentrequirements. The introduction toAnnex P.2 states that in the U.S.and Canada these components areconsidered an acceptablealternative to the reference IECcomponent standard.{Note: The componentrequirements specified inAnnexes P.1 and P.2 areCanadian/U.S. NationalDifferences and may not becompatible with IEC 60950-1 andIECEE CB Scheme requirements. z Components that do not serve a “safety critical function” are not subject to this policy and generally may be accepted regardless of the type of certification or mark associated with them, if marked at all.{For components used in ITE, thedetermination of whether theyserve a “safety critical function,”will be made during theengineering investigation througha “component hazard analysis.”Such an analysis will determinecould the operation of thecomponent under normal andsingle fault conditions result in asubsequent condition that resultsin an increased risk of fire, electric shock, energy, heat, mechanical radiation, chemical orsimilar hazards in the endproduct. Components that couldpresent such potential hazardsunder normal and single-faultconditions are considered “safetycritical.” Components that wouldpose no such hazard areconsidered “non safety critical”and are not subjected to thispolicy.Policy:When UL considers S-C Components in ITE intended to be marked with the UL Mark, the policy described below is applied based on the mark or marks associated with the S-C Component being considered. There are three general scenarios associated with this policy: Scenario No. 1: S-C Component marked with UL Mark; Scenario No. 2: S-C Component marked with CSA mark and/or CSA NRTL mark only; Scenario No. 3: S-C Component marked with mark(s) of other U.S. (NRTL) and Canadian (SCC) testing laboratories only.Scenario No. 1:S-C Component marked with UL Mark: (may additionally be marked with the cUL mark, or CSA mark or CSA NRTL mark)(a) If the S-C Component is specified in Annex P.1 or P.2, the UL Mark satisfies both UL and cUL and no further evaluation applies other than consideration of any applicable conditions of acceptability. The UL Report will describe the componentand UL certification.(b) If the S-C Component is specified in the body of the Standard but not Annex P.1/P.2 (e.g., S-C Component required to comply with IEC component standard as required by sub-clause 1.5.1), the UL Mark satisfies both UL and cUL “certification requirements.” The “technical requirements” also are met if the S-C Component has the Mark of, or a CB Certificate from an accredited NCB that participates in the IECEE CB Scheme for the component category (e.g., 60127/PROT), which may include UL for some components for which UL has IEC-harmonized component standards. For NCBs also participating in the CENELEC ENEC Mark Program, the ENEC Mark, which includes a two-digit number that identifies the certification organization, may be accepted as an alternative to the NCB’s own mark. The UL Report will describe the component and UL certification mark, and the mark of an accredited NCB, if applicable.(c) If the S-C Component is a sub-system consisting of multiple S-C Components (such as a server blade) and was certified to aCSA/UL 60950 series standard, the UL Mark on the S-C Component satisfies both UL and cUL and no further evaluation required, other than consideration of any applicable conditions of acceptability if the component was Component Recognized. The UL Report will describe the component and UL certification.Scenario No. 2:S-C Component marked with CSA mark and/or CSA NRTL mark only (non-UL):(a) If the S-C Component is specified in Annex P.1 or P.2, the CSA Mark satisfies the “technical” requirements of CSA/UL 60950 series standards, pending a review of the CSA Report, including Test Record, and consideration of any applicable conditions of acceptability. Testing of the S-C Component will take place in the end product. Exception: Switches (per Annex P.1 (2.8.7, 3.4) arerequired to comply with the appropriate UL component standards. To satisfy the UL “certification” requirements, the SC Component also is required to be subjected to UL Follow-up Service as described in the “UL Continuing Compliance Surveillance (Follow-up Service) Options for S-C Components That Have Not Previously Been Subjected to UL Follow-up Service” section of this Application Guideline (see below). The UL Report will describe the component and CSA certification, and either the Unlisted Component information, or Component description information depending on the selected UL Follow-up Service Option.(b) If the S-C Component is specified in the body of the Standard but not Annex P.1/P.2 (e.g., S-C Component required to comply with IEC component standard), the “technical requirements” are met if the S-C Component has the Mark of, or a CB Certificate from an accredited NCB that participates in the IECEE CB Scheme for the component category (e.g., 60127/PROT), which may include UL for some components for which UL has IEC-harmonized component standards. For NCBs also participating in the CENELEC ENEC Mark Program, the ENEC Mark, which includes a two-digit number that identifies the certification organization, may be accepted as an alternative to the NCB’s own mark. This Application Guideline/Policy will be periodically updated as needed as further global technical and certification considerations dictate.UL Continuing Compliance Surveillance (Follow-up Service) Options for S-C Components That Have Not Previously Been Subjected to UL Follow-up Service:For S-C Components that have not previously been subjected to UL Follow-up Service (Scenarios 2-3 above), manufacturers integrating these components into their product/system have the following options to satisfy UL Certification requirements, including UL Follow-up Service:Option A: An alternate component that is already UL Recognized or Listed may be identified and substituted for the non-UL Certified component. UL may be able to assist in a search for such alternate components and may be able to accomplish the substitution without additional testing based on the test data in the UL component report. Where possible, generic descriptions for UL Listed or Recognized Components can be included in the end-product description to allow component substitutions, as applicable.Option B: An (Regular or Unlisted) Component Procedure Volume will be established, which will include a description of the S-C Component, and which will entail UL Follow-up Service at the manufacturing facility(ies) where the S-C Component was originally manufactured.Option C: The S-C Component will be described in moderate detail in the end-product UL Follow-up Service Procedure, and the UL Follow-up Service will be conducted at the manufacturing facility(ies) where the end product is manufactured, typically relying on a visual inspection of the S-C Component in conjunction with a review of any necessary vendor certifications.Option D: The component and its associated certifications are to be described in the end product report, if it can be validated by markings on the component that the component is certified by CSA to UL 60950-1 (this would also include a review of the component report as described above to determine conditions of use, rating and the appropriate edition of standards used, etc.) and the component is additionally certified under a program that includes control of quality process elements at the manufacturing location via periodic audits (examples of such certifications include, GS, D, CCC, etc.) Note: This option is only applicable for ITE components certified in accordance with UL 60950-1 (components typically covered under UL’s Categories of Information Technology Equipment (NWGQ/2) or Power Supplies – For Use in Information Technology Equipment (QQGQ/2).RATIONALE:The bi-national standard, CSA C22.2 No.60950-1/UL 60950-1, is a joint UL and CSApublication containing identical requirements.A single standard is used in the U.S. andCanada, and all requirements are applicablewhether the product will be introduced intoboth the U.S. and Canada, or the U.S. orCanada individually. The standard isdeveloped using a consensus process, withinput provided from UL, CSA, the IT andtelecommunications industries, authoritieshaving jurisdiction (AHJs), and otherinterested parties who provide publiccomments.Since components are an integral part of anycertified ITE, they must comply with theapplicable technical requirements for thecomponent. The process for identifying the“technical requirements” for components isoutlined in sub-clause 1.5, Components. Thissub-clause describes the basic philosophy forconsidering technical requirements for safetycritical components used in equipment fallingunder the Scope of this Standard. In summary,z a component that has beendemonstrated to comply with a standardharmonized with the relevant IECcomponent standard is to be checked forcorrect application and use inaccordance with its rating. It is to besubjected to the applicable tests of thisstandard as part of the equipment withthe exception of those tests that are partof the relevant IEC componentstandard;z a component that has not beendemonstrated to comply with a relevantstandard as above is checked for correctapplication and use in accordance withits specified rating. It is subjected to theapplicable tests of this standard, as partof the equipment, and to the applicabletests of the component standard, underthe conditions occurring in theequipment;z where no relevant IEC componentstandard exists, or where componentsare used in circuits not in accordancewith their specified ratings, thecomponents are tested under theconditions occurring in the equipment. The number of samples required for testis, in general, the same as required byan equivalent standard. However, in CSA/UL 60950-1 there also exists a Component (DC) Deviation in sub-clause 1.5.1 that supplements the basic IEC 60950 technical requirement for components and states (a) all requirements in IEC component standards are replaced by UL (or CSA) component standards if listed in Annex P.1; and (b) UL (or CSA) component can replace stated IEC component requirements if listed in Annex P.2.This DC Deviation in the body of UL 60950-1 sets the foundation for the UL component acceptance policy: the technical requirements in UL and CSA Standards listed in Annexes P.1 and P.2 either replace, or are permitted alternatives to IEC component requirements. As a result, the resulting certification strategy is structured in such a way that there is acknowledgement that some components will not be evaluated to UL component standards. When considering UL “certification requirements” associated with this bi-national standard, one has to keep in mind that UL 60950-1 does not document certification requirements in the body of the Standard. The Standard only documents technical requirements. Therefore certification requirements associated with UL Corporate policy need to be communicated outside of the Standard. While UL believes that the application of certification requirements should be flexible, it is also important that they be structured enough to maintain the integrity of the UL Mark and what it represents as it is placed on UL certified products. As stated in the Guideline, components certified by other agencies may be accepted in end products certified by UL. Whether components have been certified by others or are covered under UL's Component Recognition Program, the objective is the same; namely to simplify the investigation of the end product.Continuing compliance or follow-upsurveillance is a key aspect of a ULcertification. Reasonable assurance that aproduct or component continues to bemanufactured in a manner consistent as thatreviewed during the original typeinvestigation is a large part of what a ULMark means. To this end, UL will verify thatthe organization has testing capability andfollow-up surveillance for the componentsthey certify that approximate UL’s.When considering components certified byother organizations other than UL, key is thatthere be confidence that the technicalevaluation is properly done and thecomponent is subjected to a level of follow-upsurveillance similar to that required by UL.In each case, available information suchaccreditations, MOUs, data sheets, test reportsand similar information will be used andreviewed to assist in the determination of thesuitability for use of the component in an endproduct Listed by UL.The information discussed in this ApplicationGuideline demonstrates UL's commitment tothe principle that equipment with the ULMark means that the equipment meets thetechnical requirements associated with theapplicable standard, in addition to beingsubjected to a system of productionmonitoring to provide this assurance on acontinuous basis. This principle enables usersof the equipment, and regulatory andinspection authorities to be confident that theproduct has been evaluated to all the relevantsafety requirements. UL considers thisprinciple to be consistent with thefundamental purpose of a binational standard(as agreed to by UL and CSA) and, therefore, the integrity of the bi-national standard is notcompromised.OTHER:Comments:Interpretation Systems:RELATED APPLICATION GUIDELINE(S): NONEOnly the on-line electronic version of this document is considered current. raise and lower the pressure to ensure that the setpoint is correct. The deadband (difference between the operate and resetpressures) may be verified at this time to be between the values noted on the nameplate label.SERIES LP-D DUAL SWITCHRemove cover. For setpoint adjustment on either increasing or decreasing pressure to within ±1% of nominal range, mount the switch on a calibration stand and use a suitable reference such as an ASHCROFT ®Duragauge or test gauge.Monitor switch with a light or meter.Pressurize the system to the required higher setpoint pressure and turn adjuster “B”until the switch operates or resets as required.See discussion of increasing or decreasing pressure setpoints and deadband verification under Series LP-S Single Switch. When the setpoint has been achieved, raise and lower the pressure to ensure that the setpoint is correct. Then reduce system pressure to the required lower setpoint pressure and turn adjuster “A”until the switch operates or resets as required.Verify this setpoint by raising and lowering pressure. Now increase system pressure to higher setpoint and make final adjustment on “B.”AB02040600204060SERIES LP-A ADJUSTABLE DEADBAND SWITCHRemove cover.Adjuster “B”controls the operating point of the switch on increasing pressure.Adjuster “A”controls the re-setpoint of the switch on decreasing pressure. For accurate setpoint adjustment, mount the switch on a calibration stand and use a suitable reference such as an ASHCROFT ®Duragauge or test gauge.Monitor switch with a light or meter.Pressurize the system to the required setpoint pressure.T urn adjuster “B”until switch operates. Then lower pressure to the re-setpoint, turn adjuster “A”until the switch resets. Now increase pressure to the operating point and make final adjustment on “B”.Raise and lower pressure to ensure that the setpoint and re-setpoint are correct.SOME PRECAUTIONS TO OBSERVEDo not loosen the screws holding the precision switch element(s)or mounting bracket in place.Nameplate PROOF pressure should not be exceeded.Inter-mittent operation up to proof pressure is permissible, however, some change of setpoint may be noted.Operation and correct setpoint actuation should be routinely tested.Note –Since vacuum models are already above setpoint atatmosphere, the Normally Open (NO) circuit will be closed as received.。
